This is a fantastic series about the American war for independence. It's exceptionally well made and interesting throughout. By using historical re-creations, narration and interviews, they did a nice job of explaining the events and attitudes on both sides of the conflict.
Episode three concerns the period of 1776-1777. While the war concentrated in the Boston area up until this time, by 1776, the Colonists in Massachusetts were able to force the British to leave. Unfortunately, they didn't just go home but relocated to New York--a stronghold of Loyalists. And, because the Continental Army is small, poorly equipped and very raw, they are no match for the British and spend this period just trying to survive and avoid a pitched battle. Important topics during this period is the survival of the army and desperation as well as how to shift the momentum towards the rebels. At this point, things look very, very bad for this cause. And, although things begin to improve a bit in 1777, the few successes just might not be enough to change the overall picture.
As I said above, this is an exceptional series--and this episode is no exception. And while part three isn't as noteworthy as the beginning or ending of the war, it is still well worth your time. A treasure from start to finish.
