"La Frontiére de l'auben" is utterly Garrel. Long and beautiful black-and-white frames, the actors are expected to be nothing short of perfect - the camera is there to convey even the smallest of flinches, glances and smirks. If you aren't already, the film will make you fall in love with Louis, the raven-haired prince of the cinematheque. To make the phantasmagoria perfect have a bottle or two of cheap red wine before you dive into this one.

The picture is not to be taken too seriously, it's mostly a mood-thing, a background that'll draw you in (- in that part very different from the last father-son co-op "Les Amants réguliers" which required your full attention at all times) yet merely leave a hazy memory when through.
