For a direct-to-dvd Disney movie about adorable golden retrievers forming a dog sled team in Alaska and making a young boy’s dreams come true, 2008’s Snow Buddies has an almost impossibly tragic backstory. Andrew Gruttadaro tells the sad tale behind the film’s making in a disheartening piece written for Complex. A warning in advance to pet lovers: This article contains the term “puppy-killing virus.” The production of Snow Buddies should have been routine; this was, after all, the seventh film in the incredibly durable Air Bud series, making it only about the midway point in that franchise. But the lighthearted sequel was filmed in February in Vancouver, British Columbia during an outbreak of “highly contagious” parvovirus. In the end, at least five puppies associated with the production were dead, and PETA alleged that as many as “40 or 50” could have been made sick. The animal rights ...

In this day and age, it's becoming harder and harder to distinguish YouTube parody videos from genuinely bad stuff. So when a trailer for a movie called Vampire Dog hits the web and happens to go viral, it's easy to assume that it must be a joke. But no, as it turns out, this is a real direct-to-dvd movie that will be hitting store shelves next week and it looks pretty hilarious. The story revolves around a boy named Ace (Collin MacKechnie), who inherits his grandfather's Transylvanian dog, Fang. What he doesn't know is that the dog is also a vampire. Norm MacDonald voices Fang, which makes this feel even more like some sort of meta-parody of terrible family films. However, the fact that it is directed by Geoff Anderson, a visual FX supervisor on such films as Air Bud: Seventh Inning Fetch and Snow Buddies, says otherwise. Whether or not it is truly self-aware,...

Recently, our own Nathan Adams bemoaned comedian-turned-actor Kevin Hart’s decision to sign on to Valet Guys, as a sidekick to Kevin James in a surely unfunny Kevin James vehicle. But while that was perhaps a bad idea on Hart’s part, we should not forget Hart’s other recent project pick-up: a buddy cop comedy with Seth Rogen that has a misleading and/or totally brilliant tagline. Paired with today’s announcement that Hart is taking cues from Jim Belushi, it seems as if the funny man is seriously interested in mixing up his comedic outings – and, as is so rare when it comes to talking about Jim Belushi’s career cues (Snow Buddies, really?), that’s probably a fantastic idea. THR reports that Hart has joined the cast of Screen Gems’ remake of About Last Night. The 1986 film was directed by Edward Zwick and comes from no less than David Mamet‘s play, Sexual...

DVD or Blu-ray? Redbox or Netflix? Streaming? And hardest of all: Justin Timberlake or Ryan Gosling? Whatever your poison, here's the breakdown on all the week's new releases. Moviefone's Picks of the Week "Drive" What's It About? Ryan Gosling stars as a stuntman-by-day, getaway-driver-by-night who gets caught up in a violent con-job involving his beautiful neighbor and her young son. See It Because: It's an original idea with good acting performances and unique direction -- which is becoming more and more of a rarity in Hollywood these days. By now you should know this is not the "Fast and Furious" car racing movie some people thought it would be; it's a gritty, stylish crime thriller in the vein of the genre's best output from the 70s and 80s. Also Available on: Redbox DVD & Blu-ray | Amazon Instant Video "In Time" What's It About? Justin Timberlake flexes his action hero muscles in...

The Suite Life of Zack and Cody" />Promotions for the Sprouse brothers have been all around town, and it seems the boys can't get enough of it. Trust Disney to come up with a franchise that sells by the millions; these boys are just two of the many beneficiaries of another successful Disney franchise.
In the past weeks we've seen the stars of The Suite Life of Zack and Cody in the news with press releases on the show's spin off, The Suite Life on Deck, and the more recent release of the direct-to-video film entitled Snow Buddies, for which Dylan Sprouse lent his voice to.
In other news outside of the film-making world, the boys continue to make waves with their nominations for the Kids Choice Awards. The twins are indeed everywhere, with another DVD release that would definitely be an item to add to a fan's collection.
