Jockey Jimmy Nickels is referred to alternatively as Jimmy Nicholas by both Shawn and Henry Spencer. However, when they first arrive at the track, Gus says they're there to see jockey Jimmy Nickels, and Henry says "You must mean Jimmy Nicholas", implying that either Nickels is a nickname, or Jimmy changed his name at some point. The names are used interchangeably throughout the episode.
At the end the waves behind Shawn and Gus appear stagnant. Furthermore, there are no wind effects or even tiny ripples in the beach water in the background.
The murder takes place at Hastings Racecourse, which is located in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, not in Santa Barbara. Before and after Shawn and Gus race, banners are visible on the grass in the center of the derby which say 'British Columbia'.
