The pineapple for this episode is on Shawn's lime green Hawaiin shirt. His dad makes him wear the shirt after Shawn ridicules Henry's wild shirts.
This episode marks the only time that Liam James (young Shawn) and James Roday Rodriguez (adult Shawn) appear on-screen together. Shawn would again share screen time with his younger self in The Polarizing Express (2010) (season 5); however, by then, the role of young Shawn had been recast with Skyler Gisondo.
Shawn references wanting to be the mascot of the Milwaukee Brewers, the largest sausage in the world. The official mascot of the Milwaukee Brewers is Bernie, appearing as a cheerful man with a big mustache. In the early 1980s, a beer-barreled chalet was built for him inside the stadium where he led the crowd in cheering. Following each home run and every victory by the Brewers, he slid down and plunged himself into a huge beer mug in celebration.
Although they play former elementary school classmates, Ben Giroux (Jimmy) is eight years younger than James Roday Rodriguez (Shawn) and nine years younger than Dulé Hill (Gus).
When Shawn reveals the posters of the Miami Vice guys, they each adopt the pose of the actors in their respective posters.
