    Narrator : Distance is always a factor in law enforcement, something which is sharply pointed up by the scattered and seemingly endless areas which come under the jurisdiction of the Highway Patrol. With such a large area to cover, routine inspection tours are a necessity. On April twelfth, while making such a tour, the head of the Highway Patrol came upon a hitchhiker - not an ordinary hitchhiker, for this one was a doctor. He was also on a routine tour; no emergencies except a broken down car; just a series of house calls, apparently of a minor nature. But the father of the first patient feared otherwise.
