Ogilvie originally wrote the script in 2019 with two female leads. That version of the film went into production in 2020 with a projected summer shooting date. But complications arising from the COVID-19 global pandemic halted the production and the film was shelved until it was rewritten as this version.
The film was originally titled "Red and White Are Blue" and set on the Fourth of July. It was a two-hander.
The term "belvedere" refers to "a building, or architectural feature of a building, designed and situated to look out upon a pleasing scene."
The character of Katherine was not in the original script.
Cal's revelation is loosely based on a true account by Ogilvie's real life sister, who experienced something similar when she was a teenager and was driving to school in the morning.
