A tale of tolerance and acceptance
hamzazafar-5300817 June 2022
Bristol Fashion (2022) is solicitous portrayal of a very tumultuous experience of Christina's life-a transgender woman. This movie is beautifully shot. While presenting a story about the controversial topic of gender identity, director Pierre Guillet conveys a very human story within the framework of the movie's plot. At its core, this is a tale of love and loss, of tolerance and above all acceptance, of feeling comfortable in one's own skin.

With remarkable emotional range and depth, both Christina and Esteban make this story surprisingly unique and relatable. The result is a film that tells a simple story in a way that stimulates empathy for the relatively discriminated segment of society and enlightens the audience.

The haunting nightmares of Christina represent lack of inner peace because of a question of gender identity and the unacceptance and discrimination that come along. Regardless of what others think about such an existential situation, people who feel uncomfortable with the biology with which they were born often suffer greatly over this conflict within their hearts and minds.

Bristol Fashion (2022) projects the strength and extraordinariness of Pierre Guillet's work, since there are many instances of sorrow, discrimination and horror incurred to these marginalized individuals. If anyone who has a soul must give this movie a chance with an open heart and mind.

Very Authentic

I am yet to encounter a film that is as raw as this one. The struggles of Christina are so easy to comprehend from the film as we are able to get a glimpse of her day to day life. After watching the film, I have gained a new understanding of the lives of the LGBT community. I would definitely recommend anyone to watch this.... GREAT FILM!

An Amazing Story and Movie
andreagusila19 June 2022
Today, movie makers and fans have become so obsessed with CGI and explosions that it's hard to find a good movie, one driven by the storyline, and the complexity of these characters as they grow. However, I found a hidden gem here, with "Bristol Fashion" being one of the best movies I've watched this year. The movie follows Christina as she finds herself in a helpless situation, needing the world to offer something to her. One of the interesting things about the film is the relationships she develops or already has with some of the secondary characters. A big thumbs up to the film makers, and I can't wait to watch more of their production. I loved this movie because it explores crucial social issues in our world, letting us see the daily life of a person like Christina.

Relevant for the times !

Warning: Spoilers
I finished watching Pierre Guillet's Bristol Fashion (2022) and the first thought that I had was that this film is relevant today more than ever. You will laugh, you will cry, you might cringe from second hand embarrassment, and you will scoff at society's intolerance. But most, you will feel empathy towards the protagonist.

The story follows the life of a disorderly transgender woman named Christina (Lea Nayeli) who wants to skip town on a boat but can't because she's broke. So in the meantime, she gets a job at a grocery store and Esteban (Raul A. Perez), the mechanic fixing her boat lets her live there until the boat is ready. You can tell Esteban has a crush on Christina which is why he let her stay there. Esteban has no idea she is transgender.

During the film, we get flashbacks of horrible events that took place in her home which explains why she wants to leave town.

Hollywood almost never shows us films like these where we see the struggles of being a troubled trans woman. Hollywood always portrays trans women as sex workers or getting into some kind of trouble. Bristol Fashion takes us into this world and you have no choice but to immerse yourself in it.

This film is a bit slow paced with intriguing music and shot in New York. But not in the city like you might think. More like Manchester by The Sea meets Tangerine. Dialogue seems a bit monotonous and stiff sometimes but it works and it's enjoyable.

There's a scene where Christina is interviewing for a job. The interviewer asks for ID, it says Christopher but the resume says Christina. The interviewer says, what are you trying to pull here? Only to realize what is going on. He's very understanding and asked what she would like to be called. A wholesome scene.

Esteban and Christina go on a road trip where they have a nice picnic and eat magic mushrooms. We discover Christina and Esteban's unique chemistry even though they are talking about paper clips. The two could have built more chemistry and a stronger connection during this road trip.

Written by Timothy John Foster, Pierre Guillet, and Lea Nayeli, it is unique, likable and original in story and style. I don't watch films like this but I enjoyed this one.

I don't normally watch movies like this, but I must say...I was quite surprised. The story is unique, the acting is spot on and the main location is incredible. You'd never expect this to be in the Bronx.

Best Movie I've Ever Seen
The movie was great overall, but I would have to say that Richie DiFrisco as Cadillac had to be my favorite person to watch. His acting, expressions, and emotions were on point while he was playing his role. This kid is definitely going places and can't wait to see other shows and roles he's going to get. Great guy and great actor.

Challenging Subject Matter
lifeisfilm757 February 2023
"Bristol Fashion" is a powerful and moving directorial debut from Pierre Guillet. The central performance from Lea Nayeli is truly remarkable and provides a heartfelt portrayal of the struggles faced by transgender individuals. The film's cinematography and score are also noteworthy, effectively capturing the mood and atmosphere of the story.

However, some may argue that the film's handling of the theme of attraction between the characters is problematic. The film's depiction of this theme is controversial and may not sit well with all viewers. Nevertheless, the film is a courageous and important work that sheds light on a marginalized and underrepresented community.

Overall, "Bristol Fashion" is a touching and thought-provoking film that is worth watching for its strong performances and sensitive handling of a challenging subject matter.

Anchored in Acceptance
briannyananga24 September 2023
Wow! This film is a superbly curated testament to acceptance and the human experience. In a world quick to judge, the narrative delves into the lives of Christina and Esteban, characters who are not just fixing a boat but are, in essence, finding connections in each other's worlds. The brilliance lies not in grand declarations but in intimate, quiet moments where both individuals learn about acceptance - whether it's of an old boat, an abandoned past, or one's identity. The most exciting part of the storyline is that Christina provides an astonishing depth to her character. She is a transgender woman but doesn't demand your sympathy. Instead, she earns your empathy. On the other hand, Esteban, the other main character, might take a moment to get into stride, but when he does, it's hard to overlook his genuine portrayal. This film is a must-watch, not only for its compelling performances but for its heartfelt message that transcends conventional storytelling. Embrace it for its sincerity, for its charm, and most importantly, for its audacity to be authentic.
