Reaching the Next Level

This is when Rebels goes into full 10/10 classic Star Wars territory. Clone Wars managed it quite a few times and this is the first time Rebels reaches that phenomenal level of powerful storytelling and magical connection that makes me watch in wonder like a little child.

First we see Kanan and Ezra leaving their crew to go on the dangerous mission with Ahsoka to the Sith world Yoda directed them to seek. Then when they arrive they find dangers including an Inquisitor we have not met before (who is really cool). But best of all when Ezra is separated from the others he meets a mysterious figure whose real identity is hugely exciting.

This is dark, suspenseful, brilliant storytelling and nerve tingling viewing.

The animation has now moved on from the early Rebels level and there is some seriously beautiful animation in this. The music, which is great throughout Rebels is also fantastic.

Hugely valuable as part of the overall Star Wars story and expertly put together.

The most amazing thing is that the next episode would turn out to be even better!

My rating: 10/10.

captivating

My favorite episode by far so far in the series.

Introducing maul is brilliant. One of the best characters arcs from the clone wars. Such a dark, sinister man, but yet so understandable with his beliefs we almost sympathize with him.

I love the exploration of the dark side.

To beat the enemy, know thy enemy. Even if that makes exploring it yourself.

Warning: Spoilers
Some seriously solid star wars stuff here.

This whole 2-part finale feels like old school Star Wars for me while also managing to feel pretty fresh on it's own. Rebels has done an excellent job expanding on the Force lore, to a point where it's done as well as it was in The Clone Wars (think Mortis).

Maul's introduction into the show is great. He's this older version of Maul with all of the rage and hatred of a Sith Lord who hates the Sith. It's just a really interesting role for a Star Wars character.

The animation and music for this show has been really great too. I have no complaints here. Filoni and company just get it.
