It was never Suzy Bemba’s plan to become a professional actress. This year’s European Shooting Star from France had dabbled in performance — “10 years of ballet, maybe six years of singing classes,” she recalls. After a knee injury made it impossible to keep dancing, she switched to acting as “a new way of expression” and started trying out for open auditions, driving with her mother the two and half hours into Paris from their home in the French countryside. Her mother sent out inquiries to French talent agencies, and one agreed to sign Bemba after she graduated high school.
But when Bemba graduated, acting was the last thing on her mind. “I wanted to go to med school, that was always the dream, so when I graduated, that’s what I did,” she says. “I kind of forgot about the idea of acting.”
It was only after her freshman...

Earlier this year, it was announced that the last horror film from the filmmaking duo of Julien Maury and Alexandre Bustillo would be an adaptation of the Alexis Laipsker novel The Soul Eater (a.k.a. Le mangeur d’âmes), with Virginie Ledoyen (The Beach), Paul Hamy (The Ornithologist), and Sandrine Bonnaire (Women at War) taking on the lead roles. Now Deadline reports that WTFilms will be presenting The Soul Eater, which is currently in post-production, to potential buyers at the upcoming American Film Market. That presentation will include a screening of an early promo of the film. Along with that report comes the unveiling of a creepy first look image, which can be seen at the bottom of this article.
The Soul Eater has the following synopsis: “He didn’t scream. They never scream.” Some well-kept secrets sometimes turn out to be too heavy to bear… When the disappearance...

The French filmmaking duo of Julien Maury and Alexandre Bustillo caught international attention with their debut feature, the brutal home invasion story Inside, in 2007. Since then, Maury and Bustillo have continued working in the horror genre, making the films Livid, Among the Living, Leatherface (a prequel to The Texas Chainsaw Massacre), Kandisha, and The Deep House. Now Maury has taken to Instagram to announce that they have officially started production on their seventh feature, an adaptation of the Alexis Laipsker novel The Soul Eater (a.k.a. Le mangeur d’âmes). Laipsker also celebrated the start of production, tweeting out a promotional image that reveals The Soul Eater stars Virginie Ledoyen (The Beach), Paul Hamy (The Ornithologist), and Sandrine Bonnaire (Women at War). You can take a look at that image at the bottom of this article.

Hello, everyone! This week’s horror and sci-fi home media release slate is a rather small one, as we only have five different titles headed to Blu-ray and DVD today. With that in mind, May 3rd’s home media lineup includes Kandisha and Martyrs Lane from Rlje Films, Dinosaur World on Blu-ray and DVD from Shout Factory, Female Werewolf, and Yokai.
Dinosaur World
A deadly game. A life-changing prize. When a group of contestants come together to take part in a competition held in a virtual reality realm ruled by dinosaurs, shifting alliances and jockeying for victory become secondary to the ultimate goal: to survive at all costs. Welcome to Dinosaur World…an eye-popping place where anything can happen…and the life-and-death stakes are all too real.
Female Werewolf
Lost in a fever of sexual delirium, a mentally unstable woman (Carrie Gemmell) begins to believe she may be turning into a monster.

Every generation has its own version of the urban legend about a spirit - usually drawn from someone who was horribly mistreated in life - which can be summoned by repeatedly speaking its name. Doing so is never a good idea, but there's always somebody ready to try, often just for a joke or a dare. Amélie (Mathilde Lamusse) has a better reason. Not when she first speaks the name, messing about in a derelict building where her friend tells her the legend of Kandisha, but later, after she has been assaulted by her ex-boyfriend, when she's boiling over with anger, scrawling a pentagram in blood on the bathroom wall. Then she really means it. Of course, she has no comprehension of what it will cost.
Aicha Kandicha, a figure drawn from Moroccan folklore, is a spirit of vengeance, a wronged woman who uses her beauty to seduce men before killing.

Amelie (Mathilde Lamusse) and Bintou (Suzy Bemba) are two best friends part of a Parisian teen clique, the members of which kill time with graffiti and pot smoking in their Brutalist urban neighbourhood. One day, while out tagging some derelict crib, Amelie and Bintou discover the name “Kandisha” on a wall in a rundown apartment. They’re told it’s the appellation of an ancient Arabian spectre, rumoured to murder malicious men in the life of whoever summons her.
After Amelie is attacked by her ex-boyfriend, the traumatised teen conjures Kandisha, but fails to bridle the vengeful spirit from a subsequent killing spree, as the spectre sets out to slay all the men in Amelie’s life, including those closest to her.

"When invoked, she demands the lives of six men." Shudder has unveiled the US trailer for a freaky French horror film titled Kandisha, borrowing a Morrocan folk legend to tell a contemporary tale of revenge and horror. One of the latest films from the French duo behind the cult films Inside and Livid. When Amélie is assaulted by her ex, she remembers the story of Kandisha, a powerful and vengeful demon. Afraid and upset, she summons her. The next day, her ex is dead. The legend is true and now Kandisha in on a killing spree. The three girls will do anything to break the curse. This stars Mathilde Lamusse, Samarcande Saadi, and Suzy Bemba. "A stylish and gory take on the Morrocan folk legend of the vengeful female demon Aicha Kandicha set against the scene of modern-day Paris, Kandisha is the latest brutal feature" from Bustillo & Maury. This does look quite good,...
