Nice short animation
comicchakal14 March 2020
Sitara is a dramatic pakistani short film distributed by Netflix. It's visually beautiful, without dialogues, and good character designs. It happens in the 70's - although I only know this because I read the synopsis - and I found interesting to see some similarities between the children of Pakistan and the kids of my homeland (Brazil) since both like to play with kites.

But I digress. This film deals with a delicate subject matter - and you will realize which theme it is way before the end, just pay attention to the difference ages of the main couple. I recommend this film, I hope to see more good animation from Pakistan!

Honestly, they could've added more dialogue it would probably have been better for some scenes. Other than that, I reallt liked this 15 minute movie

at par with disney or pixar shorts
newandimprovedhenry15 March 2020
A short should move you in minimum scenes and words. this one does without a single word spoken . Its a must watch . The minimalistic expressions of side characters convey their stand on the subject clearly. Just because something isnt happy , doesn't make it non entertaining. If this doesn't move you , then you are dead inside and can lick a corona infested railing.

Very good, it looks like a kids film and I think that's okay.

Warning: Spoilers
The animation was so short, only 15 minutes. I watched the beginning and didn't know where te film was going. Then the dad showed up and she suddenly got married to a really old man. At the wedding scene I couldn't watch it. It is animated and felt like a kids animated movie but the subject matter. .. The dad sold his daughter off to be in a marriage with an old man. I thought he would have a change of heart when he saw the way his family was looking at him but that didn't happen. Then there was the credit scenes where the sister got to become a pilot and her older sister was still married and looked miserable.. And honestly that's the part that made me cry. The older sister is wasting away in a child marriage and her sister got to achieve her goal and dream. And this obviously happens in the real world which is heart breaking.

As for the animation style. I think this is a heavy topic and Im not sure if this was the intent but the way it looked and felt like a kids movie really embodied that she was just a kid and that's way to young. If that makes sense?

This Could Have Been SO MUCH MORE Impactfull!

Warning: Spoilers
Having a friend who was forced to give up her dreams, even we closest of friends, her family, the country she had come to call home, (my father threatened to do the same thing to me, but luckily he knew to not expect much of my brother, & he really wanted a lawyer in the next generation,) I was excited to watch this.

In HS & University, I took a lot of classes on creative writing, as well as cinematography, & the Psychology behind movie making (I found creative ways to fill my general credit requirements,) so I not only understand, but RESPECT both subtle and overt- like this one- tools, if you will, that are USUALLY used to drive and enhance a movie. What they used here was silence, which can be a VERY powerful tool, if used properly! However, in this case, the subject matter was FAR too important to be conveyed without words, or at least subtitles! Without it, there's NO context, the father looks like a heartless tyrant, who sold his 10 yo (we don't even know how old she is, but looking at her standing with adults, she looks 9-10) to some old pervert who looks like a 50yo, tall, version of Boris (Of B & Natasha) for a lot of money. Her mother looks afraid of him, like maybe he's abusive (though they did fight once,) she's a strong woman, she's dying inside, but keeps a strong face for her daughter's sake, after all, she was a child bride too, & probably has some deep resentment already because of it! The son loved his sister dearly, & felt protective of her, he feels he let her down because he didn't know, and had no power. He was his father's protegé, but end up hating him & resenting him for life. Then we have the youngest, the favorite. She was annoying, demanding, & jealous, she always wanted whatever her sister had or wanted, to the point that after her sister was tragically married off, she used that to further weasel her father to give her EVERYTHING she asked for, including stealing her sister's dream & based on the end, rubbed her face in it! She was, in the end, the one who broke her sister's heart the WORST! Now, this is just my SPECULATION, I'm making the point that without at at least SOME guidance, you don't know anyone's motivations, so you DON'T really know what's going on in something this complex! But I like to think I got pretty close!

This show would have gotten MUCH better marks, maybe 8 or 9, all they needed to do was GET THEIR POINT ACROSS! This movie could be SO valuable for helping families, like my friend!

Parents be aware of subject matter...
Smiley197110 March 2020
Watch this first! Not a cartoon for kids to watch alone... and family discussion should ensue. Good short film for cultural awareness, but not for entertainment. The trailer is misleading as is the "overview" on Netflix screen.

Good real world problem commentary but done awfully, awful sound score choices for traggic storyline.
LancelotSB28 October 2022
Beautiful animation style (not perfect but just great, on par as in disney's channel animation). Set up in a cute tone and a very playful yet magical sound scores - which was highly unappropriate for this storyline although i respect for including cultural sound scores too. The plot set in 1970, showcasing the awful traditional practice of child marriage that is even still being practiced widely today- mostly in the middle east, india/pakistan and south east asia. Apart from that, still a great representation of indian/pakistani cultures in terms of the clothings, foods, festives and etc. In my opinion, it wouldve been better if the main character was in darker skin complexion (darker skin toned girls/women needs appreciation as well, show them love). Short animation about less than 15 minutes, no need for dialogues - straight forward storyline, simple to understand such traggic plot. Educational yet traggic ending. Not recommended.

Nice Try
theforager3 June 2020
A very nice short movie to highlight issue of young age marriages.

The way it pictures local culture and visuals and specially the rooftop life is awesome.

I don't know why the audio is not added which made the message weak and less interesting to the audience.
