Is comedienne Iliza Shlesinger‘s Hollywood star ascending? The 2008 winner of NBC‘s “Last Comic Standing” hasn’t exactly left the limelight since that win over ten years ago, but her career has recently begun to heat up. With five comedy specials on Netflix to her name and “The Iliza Shlesinger Sketch Show” premiering on the service on April Fool’s Day 2020, it’s safe to say that Netflix sees something in the comedian.

The show explores two longtime friends seeking to climb out of their heads and connect with others.
Flatbush Misdemeanors is produced by Showtime and Avalon, which will act as lead studio. Perlman and Iso executive produce with Richard Allen-Turner, Jon Thoday, David Martin and Chloe Pisello for Avalon.

Showtime has made a straight-to-series order of the 10-episode half-hour comedy “Flatbush Misdemeanors,” from creators and writers Kevin Iso and Dan Perlman.
The comedy, a co-production between Showtime and Avalon, centers on “characters struggling to thrive in their new surroundings in the brash environment of Flatbush, Brooklyn,” as two longtime friends look to “climb out of their heads and connect with others,” according to the network.
Avalon will act as lead studio in adapting Iso and Perlman’s digital series of the same name.
“’Flatbush Misdemeanors’ is a funny, audacious and inventive series that rips the artisanal sheen off of Brooklyn and mines comedy from the diverse, un-gentrified characters who live there,” said Showtime co-president of entertainment Gary Levine. “Kevin and Dan are multi-talented and have unique, authentic voices that we are thrilled to bring to Showtime audiences.”

HBO’s A Black Lady Sketch Show has entered the Emmy race but the sketch category has been decimated to only three nominees.
Robin Thede’s comedy has been nominated in the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Variety Sketch Series category alongside Saturday Night Live and Drunk History.
It comes as the Emmy rule change means that categories with less than 20 submissions have a sliding scale between zero and four nominations.
While it might increase A Black Lady Sketch Show’s chances against regular winner SNL, it is a blow for shows such as Sherman’s Showcase, At Home With Amy Sedaris, Alternatino with Arturo Castro, The Iliza Shlesinger Sketch Show, Crank Yankers and Astronomy Club.
Two of last year’s nominees, Hulu’s I Love You, America with Sarah Silverman and Showtime’s Who Is America? were no longer eligible. The streamer cancelled Silverman’s show in January 2019, while it...

When Robin Thede was in the process of writing “A Black Lady Sketch Show,” she already had a bad feeling about the state of the world. “I had a literal fever dream about the end of the world and the women living in it,” she recalls. “I came into the writers’ room the next day and said, ‘Here’s my idea for the interstitials.’”
That idea morphed into the connecting segments on the HBO sketch comedy, in which four women are in a house together when an apocalyptic event occurs. It’s a recurring narrative Thede wanted to drop in on while also giving a spotlight to talented black women “showing we don’t always have to play the neck-rolling best friend or the loud woman in the grocery store. We can play a murderous woman running for city council, aliens, dudes, lawyers, zombies.”

Writers Guild of America leaders are seeking major gains in writer pay for comedy-variety shows on streaming platforms.
“Series like ‘Patriot Act with Hasan Minhaj,’ ‘I Think You Should Leave With Tim Robinson’ and ‘The Iliza Shlesinger Sketch Show’ provide streaming platforms like Netflix with different types of entertaining content, which in turns helps those companies attract new subscribers,” the message from the WGA’s negotiating committee said.
“Despite this growth, terms for comedy-variety programs produced for subscriber streaming platforms are entirely negotiable, which means there are no WGA minimums. As a result, companies are free to pay writers as little as they can get away with, resulting in some of them not even earning enough over a season to qualify for WGA health insurance. In addition, residuals on a hit show barely amount to a few hundred dollars.”

As the world combats Covid-19, the Uso has quickly mobilized to transition from traditional Uso tours to Uso military virtual programming to provide talent engagements for troops and military families.
Last month, in response to Covid-19, the Uso suspended its trademark live celebrity tours, which have entertained millions of service members stationed around the globe for nearly 80 years.
“The Uso has always been by the side of our military and their families, and Covid-19 does not change this,” said Alan Reyes, Uso chief operating officer. “Our mission of connection is more critical than ever before. With the help of military supporters, the entertainment industry and Uso partners, we are providing virtual engagements and programming to boost morale during the pandemic. Iliza Shlesinger is keeping busy during quarantine. The comedian and actress is reading lots of books, gearing up for the release of her untitled Universal comedy, and missing her stand-up shows hard. But, every night, like clockwork, Shlesinger has one activity she can’t miss: serving up a fresh episode of her fledgling Instagram cooking show, “Don’t Panic Pantry.”
Alongside her husband (and professional chef) Noah Galuten, Shlesinger has spent the past month crafting tasty, pantry-friendly recipes for her followers. Galuten excels at breaking down recipes into easy to follow steps, all the better to ease already addled minds. The recipes are primarily built around ingredients that people already have on hand, or can buy during one big grocery trip.

Junket Prods. saw it coming. Back in February, when President Trump said the virus would soon dwindle to “one or two people,” veteran behind-the-scenes producers Jody Pritchard (in Los Angeles) and Suzanne Marvier (in New York) rushed to get ahead of the crisis. Soon, they mounted three virtual press junkets for Netflix: “Coffee & Kareem,” with stars Ed Helms and Taraji P. Henson talking from their homes to “Entertainment Tonight,” “Extra,” and “Access Hollywood,” indie film “Tigertail,” with filmmaker Alan Yang and actress Christine Ko; and Iliza Shlesinger, star of “The Iliza Shlesinger Sketch Show.”
And on April 6, Junket worked with Quibi cofounder Jeffrey Katzenberg as he launched the new streaming app with a crack-of-dawn appearance on the Today Show followed by other press outlets via a day-long media junket. He never left his Beverly Hills home.

With a third of the world’s population officially on lockdown (a number that is increasing every minute of every day), Netflix and other online services are experiencing an unprecedented surge in demand.
So much so, in fact, that Netflix and YouTube plan to reduce streaming quality across Europe for the next month in order to ease the strain on the Internet. These are strange times, indeed.
Be that as it may, today is April 1st, which means two things – 1) it’s April Fool’s Day, so the Internet is littered with prank videos and other shenanigans and 2) the Internet’s major streaming services have rolled out a fresh wave of content. Speaking of which, thanks to What’s On Netflix, below you’ll find a comprehensive list of all 83 titles that have been added to the online platform as of April 1st.

Netflix has confirmed that 58 new original series, movies and specials will be debuting on the streaming service in April. Leading off the lineup are season 2 of the Ricky Gervais serio-comic series “After Life” and the debut of Mindy Kaling‘s childhood memoir “Never Have I Ever.” And in these trying times, take comfort in the slew of comedy specials, including one pairing “Silicon Valley” leading man Thomas Middleditch and “Parks and Recreation” scene stealer Ben Schwartz.
On the reality side, we can’t wait to gobble up season 4 of the baking show “Nailed It!” and delight in the debut of the dating series “Too Hot to Handle.”
Netflix is a global presence and it brings many of its international hits to American screens this month, including new seasons of Israel’s spy thriller “Fauda,” Spain’s crime drama “Money Heist” and England’s sport docuseries “Sunderland ’Til I Die.

With streaming services growing like weeds and a new one on the way this month in the form of Quibi, there’s never been more pressure on Netflix to remain our platform of choice. As a result, it’s making original TV series and movies at an accelerated pace that we can barely keep up with. There’s only so much time in the day! Please, think of us as the Dom Toretto of streaming – we live our lives a quarter mile at a time.
As a result, we’re putting together a monthly list of everything we know is coming to Netflix UK, so you can plan ahead and make informed choices. Use your spare time wisely, and you’re likely to experience …well, let’s just say ‘slightly fewer regrets’. We don’t want to go overboard.

Now that we’re self-isolating at home to help defeat the Covid-19 pandemic, this may be the perfect opportunity to catch up on things that have been in our Netflix watchlist for a long while.
The novel coronavirus, a mutated strand from the family of coronaviruses, originated from Wuhan, China late last year, but currently, every single country in the world is battling the outbreak. As of now, more than 714,000 people have contracted the disease and 33,617 have passed away due to severe cases of acute respiratory syndrome. In the Us alone, more than 139,000 patients have been identified and approximately 158 million people are under lockdown across all 50 states. While the ramifications of the Covid-19 may have dealt the world of economics an unprecedented blow, business models like Netflix have profited from people spending more time at home with little to do.

On the eve of March 24th, when Disney+ is expected to expand across the United Kingdom and various parts of Europe, we have compiled the definitive list of new content headed to the streaming platform and its three key competitors – namely Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Hulu.
Yes, the so-called ‘streaming wars’ is now being fought on four fronts, and it’s fair to say that, despite being the fresh-faced newcomer, Disney+ is packing serious firepower. Thanks to its carefully calculated acquisitions over the years, the newly-released streaming service is packed to the rafters with top-tier content, including some excellent original series like The Mandalorian.
