Watch Christopher Lee in a different sort of role
lor_14 November 2023
Douglas Faribanks, Junior is fine in a dual role here, but it is young Chritopher Lee who saves an otherwise rather corny episode. Despite having two fine writers of the material at the beginning of their careers, Mordecai Richler (much later: "The Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz") and Stanley Mann ("The Mouse That Roared", "The Mark"), this is a talky, dull effort.

It's almost a sibling rivalry story gone haywire, as Fairbanks the dictator/general is pitted against his brother Fairbanks, a political dissident imprisoned. The general proves to be a softie, and the segment's title refers to the dissident who is so sincere he keeps resisting the way out offered by big bro, to escape into exile. The ending of the show is contrived and completely unconvincing.

As a fellow prisoner, long tall Chris Lee proves his acting range, quite believable as a Latin hothead who eventually turns fink for the bad guys in charge. It's great fun seeing him in such a different assignment than his usual screen persona.
