- The French Revolution at the end of the 18th century is the period during which this story takes place. The country is in a turmoil. Robespierre is held in execration by all but his most intimate adherents. Blanche Duloup's husband was a conspirator and meetings were held at his house, in order to mature a plot for the tyrant's destruction. Blanche overhears the plotting and is filled with fear for her husband's safety, and determines to save him. She forms the desperate resolve of betraying the plot. She goes to Danton, Robespierre's intimate friend, who procures her an interview with the dictator. Robespierre promises the safety of her husband on condition that she betrays the names of his fellow conspirators. She gives the list of names. The arrest of the conspirators follows, and they are cast into prison. Duloup is liberated, and his companions conclude that he has been the traitor. A message commanding him to appear before Robespierre reaches him, and the tyrant sentences him to exile. He demands to know why he is liberated. Robespierre tells him to ask his wife. He rushes home and forces his wife to tell him the truth. He draws a pistol and shoots himself, and his heart-broken wife falls senseless over his body.—Bioscope - July 4, 1912
