Yoram Sheftel seems more delighted than Demjanjuk as the verdict is delivered. He seemed to be on some sort of mission, he was ultimately taking on an entire nation.
Did a guilty monster get away with murder, and open wounds for a grieving nation, or was an innocent man put through a living hell for years, by people wanting to vent a hatred and frustration on one man?
I can't answer that, but it seems like there was reasonable doubt, forty odd years on, it was very hard to identify whether he was that man or not.
I think it's very clear that regardless of whether he was Ivan the Terrible or not, he was still clearly there, and still clearly committed hateful, evil crimes? Should he have faced some sort of prosecution, I know what I think. Did they make the case about Ivan The Terrible, and not about the man's crimes?
The footage of those bodies, had me in tears, unbelievable footage.
Were counties all over the world guilty of giving safe passage to Nazi war criminals? Yes, it's sickening.
A tough watch. 8/10.
