An early hint that, as the "brujo" characters insist, that the characters are not in the "real" Argentina and exist in an alternate dimension, is the TV advertisement for vacations in the Malvinas Islands; the Falklands-Malvinas war of 1982 was a defining event in Argentinian history and it's highly improbable that vacations in the islands would have been encouraged or advertised by a national tourist board in 1987. This suggests the rulers of this fake Argentina have engineered their reality so that they now hold possession of the islands, rather than the UK.
On the in-movie program, sociologist Daniel Aguilar is introduced as the author of "Michaela no se recuerda nada" or "Michelle Doesn't Remember Anything". This is an obvious satirical jab at the real book "Michelle Remembers", an entirely fabricated account of supposed Satanic ritual abuse suffered by the book's protagonist in Canada, which was unfortunately taken very seriously and to a large degree responsible for much of the 1980s "Satanic Panic".
