The X-Men movies are important. They make a lot of money and they helped create Superhero-Era Hollywood and they incepted a certain kind of lucrative career arc in the heads of a generation of young actors. (Do the franchise, take the money, spend a year on greenscreens and the press circuit pretending you understand anything that’s happening, try for the Oscar, repeat.)
And the X-Men movies are important to me. I grew up loving superhero comic books and I grew up loving movies. These two fascinations were not mutually exclusive; but now, more and more, they feel diametrically opposed.

This is the animated movie adaptation of Frank Miller’s legendary comic book, Batman: The Dark Knight Returns. The book was originally four issues which can be broken down roughly as Batman fights 1) Two-Face, 2) Mutant Leader, 3) Joker, and 4) Superman – in Part 1 we get 1) and 2) though it isn’t just fighting as we see Bruce’s journey back to being the Dark Knight after a 10 year break. It is an incredibly faithful version of Miller’s story, often praised as the greatest Batman story ever told, and it’s because of this faithfulness to the original book that it’s impossible to talk about this film without comparing the two. It’s strict adherence to the book might be the reason why the film was released in 2 parts so as not to leave anything out without making it an over-long watch (though, yes, I do know it...

And why not, right? We've seen the living dead attack just about every structure you can think of from high-rises to shopping malls. It's about time they paid a bit of attention to the South!

We have added a new trailers (domestic and international) for “X-Men: FIrst Class”. The trailers features brand new scenes, including our first looks at Oliver Platt‘s Man in Black character, as well as Ray Wise and Michael Ironside.
Synopsis: X-men: First Class charts the epic beginning of the X-Men saga, and reveals a secret history of famous global events. Before mutants had revealed themselves to the world, and before Charles Xavier and Erik Lensherr took the names Professor X and Magneto, they were two young men discovering their powers for the first time. Not archenemies, they were instead at first the closest of friends, working together with other Mutants (some familiar, some new), to stop Armageddon. In the process, a grave rift between them opened, which began the eternal war between Magneto’s Brotherhood and Professor X’s X-Men.

Does claustrophobia set in easily for you? Then you may want to steer clear of the video aisles of your favorite stores as last year's intense buried alive flick (starring the future Green Lantern) is coming on home.
Being that this is another light week release wise, you don't have too many other options. That is unless you're in the mood for high speed chases featuring coffin-looking vehicles that could end up causing just as much anxiety.
Or maybe you'd just like to find comfort in another Roger Corman fest from a kinder, gentler era - a triple treat that has nothing to do with coffins. Yay!
Buried (Blu-ray Review)
Directed by Rodrigo Cortés
Starring Ryan Reynolds, and the voices of Samantha Mathis, Erik Palladino, José Luis García Pérez, Robert Paterson, Stephen Tobolowsky

I've been clocking Amir Valinia's Mutants (not to be confused with David Morley's Mutants) for a while now and I'm honestly not sure why I've never posted anything on it yet. I mean, while it looks pretty budget it's got scifi mainstay Michael Ironside in it and that's gotta count for something right (go Rough Necks!)
A mad scientist is hired by a greedy sugar manufacturer to create an additive designed to be the most addictive substance in the world. Instead, he engineers it to turn human beings into killer mutants, and only the company’s security head & his girlfriend can stop the plague from spreading worldwide.
We've got some sales art, a couple of alternative posters, and the film's trailer after the break.
