Surprisingly engrossing enjoyable movie about one man's struggle to find himself

Wow, this was such a terrific, engrossing movie about one man's struggle to find himself. The main character, father and husband Brian Reilly, battles to overcome life obstacles which for most in his situation are never hurdled. Crime, substance abuse and leaving old friends behind who are bad influences are themes which many can relate to, and for this reason this movie really hits home. I know that there were several times during this movie I was on the edge of my seat totally relating not only to Mr. Reilly, but to his oldest son, who must endure watching his father flounder. This movie is really well done too, with totally believable characters and situations. The acting is just superb by all. I have never seen Mark Ruffalo in such fine form. Also putting in one hell of a performance in this great movie is Ethan Hawke, who really pulled off the role of an unsavory yet likable criminal.
