WarnerMedia has given a four-episode pilot order to a daily sitcom called “Today’s Special” from “Wet Hot American Summer” creator David Wain and “Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon” writer A.D. Miles.
The scripted, single-camera comedy is described as blending the storytelling mechanics of a daily soap opera with the tone and style of a single-camera sitcom and the topical responsiveness of late-night TV. It would take place in a 24-hour diner that serves as a hub for a diverse group of staff and regulars, whose lives intertwine in ongoing storylines while also reacting to trending topics and the day’s headlines.
No word yet on which WarnerMedia property the project is being developed for.

Thirty-three-year-old filmmaker Max Winkler has practically lived a mini-filmmaking career over the last 10 years. While he released his directorial debut, the Paul Thomas Anderson– and Wes Anderson-influenced “Ceremony” at the age of 26, the precocious filmmaker had, by that point, already directed episodes of David Wain’s “Wainy Days” and Michael Cera’s extremely underrated and influential web series, “Clark And Michael.” Normally a young filmmaker waiting seven years to make his next film might panic, but Winkler kept himself so busy between features, he likely didn’t have time to be anxious.

In what can only be described as welcome news, Disney has announced its plans to re-launch The Rocketeer with a sequel intended to reboot the property as franchise material – with a black woman as the central hero. The original film was released in 1991 to lacklustre response in theatres – but found a devoted audience later as it settled in to the home entertainment market. The new movie will be titled The Rocketeers.
The Rocketeer is a comic book character, created in 1982 by Dave Stevens, and was designed to be an homage to the heroes of the 1930s and 1940s. His real name is Cliff Secord, and he is a stunt pilot who stumbles upon a strange but functional jet pack. In the original movie, set in 1938 and directed by Joe Johnston, he uses the jet pack to fight Nazis as the Second World War commences. Secord is played by Billy Campbell,...

At the end of the 2001 film Wet Hot American Summer, the counselors at Camp Firewood agree to meet up ten years down the line. 2011 has come and gone, but if new reports are to be believed, the reunion might only be a few years behind schedule. According to E!, Netflix is moving forward with a Wet Hot American Summer miniseries, with the film's director, David Wain, on board.
A Netflix version of Wet Hot American Summer has been rumored since May, and if E!'s report is to be believed, the project will begin production in January, with Wain and co-writer Michael Showalter returning to pen the script. Wain has already shown off his ability to write and direct compelling content on the Internet; his web series Wainy Days won multiple awards across five seasons.
The big question, though, is whether the original film's cast will reprise their roles in the sequel.

Writer-Director David Wain is someone who has found an interesting balance in the comedy landscape. He's proved to Hollywood that he can successfully merge his unique voice with a big-budget hit like Role Models (2008), while letting his comic id run wild on smaller projects like his web series Wainy Days and the ahead-of-its-time TV show Stella (2005), which he created with his long time collaborators Michael Showalter and Michael Ian Black. For many of Wains’ diehard fans, though, he is most admired for the work he did as one of the original

Seven was a lucky number for Tatiana Maslany this year: She broke out with her mesmerizing performance — well, seven of them, if you count all the clones she has played to date — in BBC America’s conspiracy drama Orphan Black. As a result, EW has named her one of our Entertainers of the Year. We asked the 28-year-old Canadian actress to select her most memorable day from her banner year, and she chose her journey this summer to San Diego for Comic-Con. Maslany being Maslany, she couldn’t just play one role that day, so she took on two: celebrity and fan.

With its latest series, My Damn Channel is joining the binge watching movement. All ten episodes of the second season of Daddy Knows Best have been released, the first of several My Damn Channel comedy network series that will utilize simultaneous release. For the unfamiliar, Daddy Knows Best stars Steve Rannazzisi (best known for his role in The League) as a dopey dad who actually doesn't know anything at all. His wife (Jade Catta-Preta) somehow puts up with his constant lies, deceits, and general shenanigans, and in season two, his decidedly un-fatherly behavior continues unabated. Here's the first episode, where he ends up in a viral video after coming out on the losing end of a street fight: The first season of Daddy Knows Best ran for seven episodes on My Damn Channel, Blip, and YouTube, racking up millions of views along the way. This time around, My Damn Channel...

“It’s about a guy who’s stressed out and monster comes out of his ass and kills the things that are stressing him out and goes back up his ass,” Ken Marino told us about his new upcoming horror comedy, “Bad Milo” at SXSW 2013. “It’s good clean, butt fun.” Hmm, how can you go wrong there? Directed by Jacob Vaughn (an short filmmaker and assistant editor on the Duplass Brothers' "Cyrus" and "Jeff, Who Lives at Home"), “Bad Milo" co-stars Gillian Jacob (“Community”), Peter Stormare, Stephen Root, Mary Kay Place and Patrick Warburton, and it’s about exactly what Marino said it was: a monster living up a dude’s butt. A horror comedy, a trailer has arrived and it’s pretty damn funny, especially if you’re a fan of Marino’s past works, both as a lead ("Burning Love”) or a wickedly funny supporting star ("Childrens Hospital,...

Adam Driver is certainly using his Girls role, in which he plays Lena Dunham.s eccentric boyfriend also named Adam, as a springboard into an established career, though roles in films like J. Lizzy Caplan is cool. She's so cool, in fact, that we named her as one of the 25 Coolest People in Movies a few weeks ago, mostly based on her exceptionally well-chosen projects (and a little bit on some extra je ne sais quoi). By our counter-culture standards, her "Mean Girls" character Janis Ian was the best of the cast, and the rest of Caplan's resume — including parts in "Freaks and Geeks," "Party Down," "Cloverfield," "New Girl," "127 Hours" and cult favorite web series "Wainy Days" — reads like an application to the Cool Hall of Fame (an imaginary institution we've just made up now, essentially guaranteeing we'll never be inducted, ourselves).
Now with a starring role in the cutthroat indie comedy "3, 2, 1... Frankie Go Boom," Caplan sheds some clothing and ponders the nature of humiliation: her own, her co-stars' and that of random dudes getting hit in the goolies with gardening tools.

If you're a fan of David Wain's web series "Wainy Days," stop reading and watch the above video immediately. Shot during the downtime of the film "Wanderlust," which Wain directed, this short follows Wain as he runs out of gas in the middle of nowhere and is forced to seek help at a hippie commune.
If you're not a fan, there's nothing we can do to bring you to the light, so why even bother? If the idea of Alan Alda being an evil, gun-toting wheelchaired genius doesn't appeal to you, nor does the visual of David Wain manually stimulating Paul Rudd or describing sex with Malin Akerman in as gross terms as possible, then, well, maybe your sense of humor is simply well-adjusted. Or something.
This really reminded us of the old "Stella" shorts, with its slapshot production values and giddy vulgarity.

Director David Wain‘s brand of humor isn’t one that tickles everyone’s fancy. It’s particular and for those that like it they’ll be glad to know that Wanderlust delivers. Everyone else might find the film to be a bit too weird, with most of the comedy falling flat, even though there’s some really good material on hand thanks to the script, which was co-written by Wain and Ken Marino. Wanderlust isn’t just another Paul Rudd comedy; it’s actually another David Wain/Paul Rudd collaboration, with other frequents like Marino and Joe Lo Truglio.

New York — On the surface, "Burning Love" is eerily identical to "The Bachelor."
All of the hallmarks of the ABC reality series are here: the steady, melodramatic winnowing of suitors, the shallowness masquerading as romance, the cheesy up-lighting on a remote mansion.
But while "Burning Love," a new Web series currently streaming on Yahoo, adheres to many traditions of "The Bachelor," it greatly inflates others. The vacant bachelor is a firefighter who cheerfully introduces himself in front of a burning building. Instead of roses, he awards women hoses. One contestant is so outrageously trampy, she goes through the entire show without pants and her lower half graphically blurred.
"I'm looking for someone who can make me laugh but isn't afraid of robots," says the firefighter Mark Orlando (Ken Marino). "Maybe somebody ethnic."

David Wain is not for everyone. I say that as an enormous compliment, because when I meet someone who shares my affinity for his inane comedy, I know I’ve met a kindred spirit. His films have graduated from cult novelty (Wet Hot American Summer) to the comic mainstream (Role Models and Wanderlust) but he still embraces the nonsensical. David Wain lives by the comic rule that when you run into trouble and you’re about to lose the room, double down on the gag. A little might not be funny, but total commitment has redemptive comic value. It’s...

Sometimes, you have to wonder how director David Wain finds the time to do everything he has on his plate at any given time. While it's been over three years since his last feature film, the hit comedy Role Models , pairing Paul Rudd and Seann William Scott, Wain's been busy during that time with his long-time collaborator Ken Marino writing and producing "Children's Hospital" on the Cartoon Network, as well as doing his own web series "Wainy Days" (conveniently collected on DVD earlier this month). And yet, he also had time to make Wanderlust , a raunchy comedy pairing Rudd with Jennifer Aniston as a New York couple who wind up living on a commune of hippies when he loses his job and they choose to embrace a more laid-back lifestyle. The new comedy "Wanderlust" (opening this weekend) stars Jennifer Aniston and Paul Rudd as a busy New York couple that bottom out on their demanding, fast-paced lives, and retreat to the Elysium Bed and Breakfast in the Georgia countryside. While it's their first collaboration, one would be completely excused if they believed writer/director David Wain ('Wainy Days," "Stella," "Role Models") and Judd Apatow ("Knocked Up," "The 40-Year-Old Virgin," etc.) had been working together for years. Clearly kin-like comedic souls or brothers from another mother, Wain and Apatow have been drinking from the same sweet and sour pool for some time (Wain's previous effort "Role Models" especially feels like an Apatow production). And while Wain's comedy has skewed a little bit more delicious immature and stupid (in a good way) than Apatow's signature blend of heart and potty humor, "Wanderlust" strikes the perfect mix and yet still feels like an entirely Wain-ian effort (as if Apatow only gave a few nurturing notes, but then signed off and said, "This is good to go"). And while the comedic, light and sometimes downright hilarious...

Aniston stopped by her friend Chelsea Handler’s show Chelsea Lately to dish about her new movie Wanderlust and the intimate conversation didn’t stop there. We also found out what it’s like to act opposite someone wearing a prosthetic penis. (Spoiler: After about 20 minutes, you find yourself comfortable enough to investigate it and have a conversation while a makeup artist kneels down to give your costar a touch-up.) Watch their chat below.

“I feel like I’ve gone on 26 fruitless romantic adventures since you asked me out last July, and it’s starting to get repetitive! If my life was a web series, I would say there’s enough episodes and it’s time to stop!” David Wain complains to triple- and quadruple-timing would-be love interest Elizabeth Banks in the simultaneously maddeningly and enjoyably redundant 26th episode of Wain’s faux-autobiographical web series Wainy Days. To underline Wain’s meta self-criticism, Banks’ second turn on Wainy Days ends pretty much exactly as her first does, with Banks harming her chances with ...

It’s here, sweethearts! The day of blood sugar-spiking chocolates, overpriced greeting cards, overly complicated Garry Marshall movies, and, uh, inept role-playing exercises (is that a champagne bucket on your nether regions, or are just happy to see me, Clive Bixby?). In honor of Valentine’s Day, we thought we’d take a look at some of our loveliest posts. Below, we present celebratory plans of attack for saps and singles alike.

David Wain’s original web series about his (slightly) fictionalized adventures in life and love in Brownstone, Brooklyn just ended its latest (Fiat-sponsored) season. That makes for one season of Wainy Days every year since producer and distributor My Damn Channel first released the series back in 2007. So, that adds up to a total of five seasons, 39 episodes, one laundry list of stellar special guests (including Elizabeth Banks, Lake Bell, Julie Bowen, Saffron Burrows, Rob Corddry, Rashida Jones, Megan Mullally, Nick Offerman, Amanda Peet, Elizabeth Reaser, Paul Rudd and Jason Sudeikis) and enough awkward make out sessions and other sexual suggestive scenes to fill a YouTube video with three minutes and 43 seconds of inelegant intimacy. Wain and the good people at My Damn Channel cut together a Makeout MegaMix for your viewing enjoyment, to celebrate Valentine's Day, and to promote the just released Wainy Days DVD. The steamy action is...

Say Anything. Love Actually. Sleepless in Seattle. This Valentine’s Day, you might be tempted to kickstart an evening of romance with your lovely by popping in a beloved romantic movie. How mundane. And guys…? How ultimately counterproductive. No matter how you see yourself, gents, no matter how big the bouquet of soon-to-be-dead flowers, I can assure you that you pale in comparison to the onscreen personas of John Cusack or Tom Hanks. Sorry, it’s science.
However, there is a man out there that you might actually look good compared to. His name is David Wain and he has an unusual way with women.

There’s a secret to building a hit web series; to writing the perfect story or cultural commentary that people can’t help but share. It’s elusive and the people who accidentally stumble upon it grow fewer with each passing year. Today, the overnight viral sensations (like Shit Girls Say) tend to be intentional and cautiously developed over time (Sgs creator, Graydon Sheppard, built a 54,000 person twitter following before creating a corresponding online series). Still, idiotic, super-cute, and extreme videos keep landing in my Inbox. It may be because we humans have a difficult time turning away from spectacle. But more than that, those videos might possess the elements that web series producer and show runner, Tim Street (VP of Mobile Video at mDialog and creator of French Maid TV) frequently and publicly proclaims to be the key to engaging an audience: Activate two or more emotions at the same time.

Yahoo! isn’t the only online video destination building a studio in New York City. The home of original web series hits such as Time Magazine’s favorite You Suck at Photoshop, David Wain’s Wainy Days, A.D. Miles’ Horrible People, Josh Gad’s Gigi, and Mary Lynn Rajskub’s Dicki is constructing digs in which it will film a shiny new slate of online programming. Once complete, the My Damn Channel Studio at the Film Center Building in Manhattan’s Hell’s Kitchen will be home to the upcoming My Damn Channel production of My Damn Channel: Live. The program is one of YouTube’s chosen original channels and will consist of daily 10-minute interactive broadcasts in addition to one full 30-minute installment per week. If that shooting schedule sounds ambitious, that’s because it is. A check from YouTube helps to cover the production costs, but you still...

David Wain is a catnip amongst a class of comedy nerds of the Best Week Ever generation, who grew up on bootlegged VHS copies of The State and followed the troupe’s subsequent diaspora into Viva Variety, Reno 911, and Stella. But you don’t need to be able to to recite Wet Hot American Summer by heart or fully understand what it means to be a comedy trio powered by the premise of “Ids in suits” to find him entertaining. Wain can be funny for everyone. That’s why the internet at large should join Michael Ian black in being all jazz hands about the Season 5 premiere of Wainy Days. The My Damn Channel original web series starring, created, and written by Wain first debuted n 2007. It’s storyline hasn’t changed much since. Each installment features an exaggerated version of the now 42-year-old Wain - who works in a...

The entertainment world is finally catching up to David Wain. The co-creator of television’s The State and Stella helped introduce a fresh new comic sensibility — as well as the likes of Amy Poehler, Bradley Cooper, and Elizabeth Banks — in Wet Hot American Summer, a certifiable cult classic. With Role Models, he proved he could direct a mainstream hit movie, and he just completed work on Wanderlust, the Jennifer Aniston comedy that comes out in February.
But even as bigger and more expensive Hollywood projects come his way, Wain remains dedicated to his smaller, quirkier projects. Last week, he began...

Ladies, did you really think David Wain wasn’t going to call you back? After that remarkable first date, where you (Choose As Many As Are Appropriate) marveled at his tiny penis/made out with the waiter/animated him as a one-armed fart monster/were knocked over by him on roller-skates/laughed at his beasteality experience? Well, 18 months after his last Wainy Days episode, the creator of Childrens Hospital and writer/director of the upcoming Wanderlust is back to share his foibles for a fifth season. The first new episode will be available on MyDamnChannel.com Dec. 5. It’s enough...

The first official movie trailer for Wanderlust with Paul Rudd and Jennifer Aniston has been released. The rom-com comes from director David Wain of Childrens Hospital and Wainy Days. Set for a February 2012 release, the trailer doesn’t do much to draw interest. With the plot previously revealed, and Rudd on board, Wanderlust had sounds of potential, until you watch the first look. Following an urban couple, who end up living in what looks like a hippie commune, the two run into some crazy situations as they learn to adapt. The funniest part of the trailer was the fly paper hanging from the ceiling of Rudd’s office job, and a...

My Damn Channel Founder and CEO Rob Barnett recently told us to expect “more” online original programming to come out of his new media studio (aka the four-year-old home of such online video hits like You Suck at Photoshop, Wainy Days, and Gigi). Barnett and company just found the first of that “more” this past week at the Just for Laughs Comedy Conference in Montreal, Canada. Toronto’s very own award-winning animation and production shop Smiley Guy Studios landed a development deal with My Damn Channel for winning a pitch contest at the conference. Their interactive cartoon comedy View U - “about four college friends who do anything and everything to get ten million clicks of fame” - impressed an esteemed panel of judges including Barnett, Ben Relles of YouTube Next, Spencer Griffin of CollegeHumor, and Eric Mortensen of blip.tv. The five-minute pitch from Smiley Guy Studios Executive Producer...

Talent is a scarce resource. My Damn Channel wants to find more of it. The new media studio (which just celebrated its fourth birthday!) and internet destination for original alt-comedy web series hits like You Suck at Photoshop, David Wain’s Wainy Days, and Josh Gad’s Gigi today announced the creation of a new division with the explicit intent to find individuals with mad online video skills. That new division is called Talent and Audience Development. My Damn Channel also today announced who will head said new division. The Director’s name is Molly Templeton, but you may know her as mememolly. Templeton has exactly the kind of online video experience and internet cred My Damn Channel Founcer/CEO Rob Barnett was looking for in someone charged with acquiring fresh online video creators and enlarging the audiences for their productions. Templeton started uploading videos to YouTube way back in 2006. Since then,...

Elizabeth Banks was a complete unknown when she was cast as “Lindsay” in the 2001 film Wet Hot American Summer. And she stayed that way for a while after, thanks to the dismal box office performance of David Wain’s camp comedy. But, over time, the movie’s growing cult would help Banks become one of the most in-demand actresses around.
To mark the tenth anniversary of Wet Hot American Summer, we spoke with the star of 40-Year-Old Virgin, Role Models, 30 Rock, and the forthcoming Hunger Games about her time at Camp Firewood.
Entertainment Weekly: What do you remember about the Wet Hot audition?...

I know the prevalent question on your mind is this: What's the Fonz's son up to? Well, Max Winkler, the son of Happy Days' Henry Winkler (Fonzie!) is a director. He wears very nice scarves, as evidenced by his IMDb Page, which also tells us he's written for David Wain's Wainy Days.
His first feature as a graduate of USC's film school is called Ceremony, a star-studded indie wedding movie along the same veins as The (godawful) Romantics with Katie Holmes and Malin Akerman. This one stars Uma Thurman and Lee Pace, who we like marginally more. The clothes and setting are gorgeous. The plot and script? Well, that remains to be seen.

What’s your favorite Elizabeth Banks moment? It’s not an easy question, because Jack Donaghy’s baby-mama is gorgeous, hilarious, versatile, and totally fearless. Do you go with her scene-stealing performance in The 40 Year-Old Virgin, where she ultimately turned out to be more gal than Steve Carell could handle? How about her brief encounter with Leonardo DiCaprio in Catch Me if You Can, where her gaping guffaw was the perfect punchline? Or are you such a Banks-groupie that all debates begin and end with her naughty guest appearances on Wainy Days? Oh, Shelly, you delectable slut.
But she...
