Maya Entertainment has released The Speed of Thought on to DVD April 12th. The film stars Nick Stahl (Mirrors 2), Mia Maestro (Cutthroat), Taryn Manning (The Devil's Tomb) and Wallace Shawn, in a fictional world set in telepathy. The film has some similarities to Christopher Nolan's Inception (2010). The conscious and unconscious parts of the mind are used for governmental espionage, with Joshua Lazarus (Stahl) attempting to uncover the source of a fictional ailment, called Wittman's disease. The result is a thrilling and imaginitive ninety minutes.
Much of the film takes place in a consciously constructed world of the mind. Here, scopers, or those with telepathy, communicate with others like themselves. The fantasy constructs are much like the ones created in Inception, with less attention spent on the grand scale of this earlier production. Instead, dreamscapes are created. Later, the protagonist Lazarus merges with a new mysterious scoper,...

It's no secret that SyFy Original pictures are occasionally so bad that they're hilarious, and usually just so bad that they make eyes bleed, but their list of upcoming films for the next year truly has some gems. And by gems, I mean some of the descriptions are funnier than they are sad. Here they are, ranked from suck to blow.
Roswell -- June 2012 - The story selected by fans for Syfy and IGN.com's B Movie Mogul project, 65 years after the original UFO crash at Roswell, another ship from the same far-off civilization comes to rescue their downed comrades - and continue their preparation to invade the earth. Directed by Jason Connery (Area 51, The Devil's Tomb). A production of After Dark Films.
How intriguing, a description that could equally describe at least 300 other movies. At least Will Smith isn't in it this time.
Red Faction: Origins -- 2011 -- Robert Patrick...

A few days ago it was announced that two of the eight films slated for this weekend's After Dark Originals theatrical release were being held off until later in the year due to a deal with Syfy. By later in the year they must have meant February 26th, the date that 51 will premiere as one of Syfy's Saturday night originals. Oh, and it looks as if the title has been changed to Area 51, too.
The film, now called Area 51 because I guess Syfy execs felt 51 wasn't specific enough for general audiences, stars Jason London (Monsterwolf), Bruce Boxleitner ("Babylon 5"), and Rachel Miner ("Californication") and is directed by Jason Connery (The Devil's Tomb).

Standing in line at the grocery store yesterday (following proper grocery story etiquette), I noticed among the Redbox selections was a movie called Ticking Clock, starring Cuba Gooding, Jr. And I thought, "That's where he's been!"
But when I returned home and checked iMDB, I learned that Ticking Clock was only a tiny fraction of the truth. In fact, Cuba Gooding, Jr. is probably one of the most prolific actors in Hollywood right now. The difference between Gooding and Nic Cage, however, is that, while Cage continues to release moves on 3,000 screens, Cuba Gooding, Jr. has become something of the King of Redbox.
Since 2007, Cuba Gooding, Jr. has made 10 movies. You've probably never heard of a single one of them. I haven't, even though along the way his co-stars have included Harvey Keitel, Val Kilmer, Christian Slater, Taryn Manning, Henry Rollins, Jason London, Lance Reddick, Ally Sheedy, Nicki Blonsky, and Ray Liotta,...

Holly plays an archeology professor who unearths a dangerous artifact, unwittingly releasing a creature that is able to kill with the power of its bone-splitting scream. Steven C. With the plethora of sountrack CDs released for your favorite theatrically released features, the music to direct-to-dvd films usually fell below the radar no matter how they good may be. Thanks to enterprising label MovieScoreMedia at least one more score like that is saved from obscurity. Bill Brown's The Devil's Tomb already made it to the top spot of some soundtrack lists, so perhaps it's time to check out what the buzz is all about with its composer. A veteran of video game commissions, Bill Brown wrote this score during his summer break from his current commitments to the hit show CSI: New York which keeps him busy for the rest of his year.

DVD Links: DVD News | Release Dates | New Dvds | Reviews | RSS Feed Falling Down I just posted my review of the Blu-ray edition of the new Warner Bros. release of Falling Down, which you can read here. It was the first time I had seen the 1993 release and while I liked it I can't immediately recommend it as a blind buy for anyone that hasn't seen it in the past. It's a film that depends on the audience's acceptance of the storyline, since it slowly unravels and can be considered quite scattered when the ending is still yet unknown. However, it's definitely a film to check out and one I would bet many will truly love if you don't already. Universal Blu-ray

Who would have thought that after bursting onto the scene in 1996 as a loudmouth, Quan-loving jock in Cameron Crowe’s romantic comedy “Jerry Maguire” that ten short years later Cuba Gooding Jr. would be going blow-for-blow with Steven Seagal, Jean-Claude Van Damme, and Wesley Snipes in the direct-to-dvd action niche? Of course, unlike those other actors, Gooding has actually maintained a steady and very diverse career that involves dramatic TV roles and supporting turns in Hollywood A-list films. Gooding’s latest direct-to-dvd offering is “The Devil’s Tomb” (previously “Ice 44”), a horror-action thriller that puts the actor in combat fatigues and behind an M16, a place he’s become increasingly comfortable. Who knew Radio would grow up to become such a convincing gung-ho action movie star? “The Devil’s Tomb” has Gooding Jr. playing Mack, the stoic, haunted leader of a small squad of mercenaries that hire out for dangerous missions.

With Guillermo del Toro's Hellboy II now behind us, I'm anxious to see Ron Perlman on the big screen again. I Sell the Dead won't get a big release, I'm planning on catching Mutant Chronicles via On Demand sometime this weekend, and Thomas Jane's The Dark Country doesn't have a release date yet. So what else is on his plate? One of the many projects listed on his IMDb page is one called The Devil's Tomb, directed by Jason Connery, although unfortunately it's going straight-to-dvd. Another one is the Bubba Nosferatu sequel, which we updated in October of last year, reporting that Perlman was officially set to star. Perlman spoke to SciFi Wire yesterday and gave them a few updates on both The Devil's Tomb (which will be out on DVD on May 26th) and Bubba Nosferatu: Curse of the She-Vampires, the long in-development sequel to Don Coscarelli...

Releasing the flick on DVD first on May 26, 2009 "The Devil's Tomb," will then go on to a limited release date in December of the same year. Starring several accomplished actors including Ron Perlman, Cuba Gooding Jr., Ray Winstone, and Henry Rollins, the question comes up, why is "The Devil's Tomb," going straight-to-dvd? The first trailer is available, for this under the radar film, that is finally starting to receive some attention.

HBO's vampire drama True Blood has just gotten a little hotter. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Cuban-American actress Valerie Cruz has signed on to play an "elegant Hispanic vampire" named Isabel on the new season.
Dexter fans will recognize Cruz as having played Syvia Prado on the Showtime series, but she's also made appearances in several other television shows, including Nip/Tuck, Crossing Jordan and an episode of Grey's Anatomy.
This is a great move for Cruz, whose most recent film The Devil's Tomb (with costars Cuba Gooding Jr. and Taryn Manning) is going straight to DVD this May.
Where will she fit in among Sookie (Anna Paquin), Tara (Rutina Wesley) and the other vampiresses of Bon Temps? It's interesting that her character description includes that she's supposed to be "elegant" — I assume this means she won't be working as a waitress at Merlotte's.
How do you think Isabel will fit into True Blood?...

Valerie Cruz scored a recurring role on HBO's vampire series True Blood. She will play Isabel, an elegant Hispanic vampire. Cruz first caught our eye with her turn on Nip/Tuck . Later, she'd go on to appear in The Dresden Files , Dexter and No Man's Land: Rise of the Reeker . Also next for her is The Devil's Tomb , a new horror film coming March 26th from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. The second season of True Blood begins this summer.

Variety reports that the supernatural thriller previously known as Untitled Gehenna Project now has a moniker—The Devil’S Tomb. Foreign sales rights to the film have been picked up by Voltage Pictures.
Directed by actor Jason Connery from a script by Keith Kjornes, Devil’S Tomb has quite an eclectic, genre-friendly cast, including Ray (Beowulf) Winstone, Ron Perlman, Bill Moseley, Henry (Wrong Turn 2) Rollins, Cuba Gooding Jr., Taryn Manning, Valerie Cruz, Franky (Saw II) G, Uwe Boll regular Zack Ward and Jason London. The story follows a military squad tasked with rescuing a scientist from an underground lab in the Middle East—but when they get there, they discover that an ancient evil presence has been unleashed. Producers Bill, Jon and Sid Sheinberg and Steve Harris are handling North American distribution sales for the $10-million film, which is currently in postproduction.
