At Friday's ceremony hosted by Morgan Spurlock at the DGA Theater in Los Angeles, the newly instituted Audience Award was given to Chris Taylor's "Food Fight," which looks at the organic food movement in California.
Short film honors went to Amanda Micheli and Isabel Vega's "La Corona," about a beauty pageant inside a women's prison in Colombia.
The inaugural Avid Excellence in Editing Award was presented to filmmaker Sam Pollard, who is editing a documentary about Barack Obama that will air on HBO.
