German director Thomas Stuber seems to have dramatically upped his game since his very straight-faced, moody debut Teenage Angst, which featured at the Berlinale back in 2008. Now also acting as a co-writer alongside Clemens Meyer (a collaboration that has existed since 2015), Stuber is producing a type of film that is much more light-hearted, complex and funny: In the Aisles (In den Gängen). It's fortunate that this comedy-drama is such a triumph too, because it gives excellent rising star Franz Rogowski (Victoria) a chance to redeem himself as a lead actor after his terrible involvement in Christian Petzold's rival Main Competition entry Transit. Stuber's effort is indisputably the better film, and In the Aisles' wonderful world creation puts it up there as one of only...

Telling people you're facing depression can be very tricky - but it's worth it.
Welcome to Geeks Vs Loneliness, our spot on the site where we talk about things that are affecting us, you, people we know, people we don't. We don't offer miracle cures, just a few thoughts that will hopefully be useful to a few people. This week, we're handing over to Robb, to talk about his own battle with depression...

It’s just a phase. You’ll grow out of it. Pull your socks up.
These are all phrases which have undoubtedly been heard by every one of us at one point or another. For some it was about their hairstyle, for some their sexuality, for some their body image. It was barely ever about loosely fitting footwear. For many, it was about depression...

These days, it’s pretty typical for a superhero to have a sidekick, but it’s considerably less common for any character to have a codependent ally. That’s the case for Tyrone Johnson and Tandy Bowen, two superheroes who met as teenage runaways and learned that they depend on each other to survive. Literally. Johnson, who goes by the name of Cloak, has the ability to move between this world and a dark dimension but relies on human energy to survive.

Teenage angst can be embarrassing for everyone involved, but when said teenager is a celebrity, whose parents are also celebrities, the embarrassment factor is magnified substantially. That was definitely the case for Jaden Smith, who served up a social-media meltdown in an Instagram video (which he has since wisely deleted) in which he filmed himself […]...

Teenage angst, bad hair and portals to another dimension in 70s Australia. Here's the new trailer for the great-looking Girl Asleep...
Ever had a dream that was so thoroughly improbable and weird that you often wondered whether you’d actually gone to sleep or fallen through a portal?
Girl Asleep is a Pretty in Pink meets Where The Wild Things Are anti-fairy tale that explores the bizarre and fantastical corners of one teen’s overactive imagination. Rosemary Myers’ quirky retro film is adapted from a screenplay by Matthew Whittet (who first wrote it as a stage production) and stars Whittet, Bethan Whitmore, Tilly Cobham-Hervy, Imogen Archer, Harrison Feldman, Amber McMahon, Eamon Farren, Maiah Stewardston.
Seventies-era Australia is just as awkward a time and place as any to go through an adolescent crisis. As if high school isn’t enough of a horror, 14-year-old Greta Driscoll has to...

Remember that long-shelved adaptation of Stephen King’s Cell? It’s totally out now, available to rent on VOD. No marketing, no enthusiasm – all signs pointed towards an outdated, forgettable watch. Even the promotional poster on my television’s On-Demand screen was haplessly cobbled together, featuring Samuel L. Jackson’s shiny bald dome and clean-shaven face…even though he’s never seen in the film without a hat, or without facial hair. For all accounts and purposes, it seems like no one wants you to watch Cell, and after doing so myself, I’ll join that chorus of voices. There have been some phenomenal cinematic adaptations of Stephen King material – this is not one of them.

What happens when you pair a bunch of cute dachshunds and a WB classic? Teenage angst, terrible wigs and a neat little video called “Dachshund’s Creek,” of course. It’s only Tuesday, but my week has already been made thanks to this three-minute spectacle and obvious tribute to Dawson’s Creek. There’s Joey’s awkwardness, Dawson’s ignorance, the sounds...Read more»...

Terrorizing tykes. Corruptible kids. Menacing mop-tops. Problematic pubescent. However one might want to use their alliterative labeling when it comes to troubled young people and the trauma they cause (or the trauma that gravitates to them) in the world of cinema it is always fascinating to see the suspense, aggravation and psychological ramifications behind such happenings.

The Amazing Spider-Man has released a new full-length trailer, featuring a wisecracking Spidey, a scowling Peter Parker and a Lizard that looks as though he could give the Hulk a run for his money. Director Marc Webb has stressed the importance of Peter's lost parents to his particular story, and judging by this latest trailer, he wasn't kidding. "The one thing that has haunted me my entire life," says Parker, grimly, "is finding the truth about my parents." Teenage angst aside, the new trailer doesn't skimp on action,...

Revenge Recap: Victoria Schemes, Daniel Tries to Survive Prison and Emily Digs for the Truth
Revenge finally returned from hiatus this week with an episode that continued to prove why this show is so delicious. Let's just get right to it, shall we?
Let's Play "Pin The Murder on The Donkey". The way I see it, the main difference between Emily and Victoria is the way in which they react to situations. Emily is more of a "set up a plan and see it through methodically" kind of girl, while Victoria is a "let's try everything crazy and see what sticks" woman. Clearly Victoria isn't happy that Daniel is being charged with Tyler's murder, but instead of sitting back and letting their high-priced attorney (Ben) do his job, she decides to get creative. When Charlotte can't accurately describe the hooded figure she and Declan saw on the beach, Victoria uses...

On the Season 3 premiere of "Sister Wives," we join the Brown family in Las Vegas, where they have four homes all relatively near one another.
Baby Talk
It's time for Kody and Robyn to announce the new baby. Robyn fears her bestie in the family, Meri, will struggle with it because Meri can't have more kids. Yeah, that would be really hard. But if she can do it with the other wives, I think Meri will be Ok. She's an awesome lady.
Robyn tells Meri before anyone else and they have a lovely moment where Meri is excited and they hug. Meri says in a talking-head that she feels bad that people have to be so sensitive to her on this issue.
That night, at a big family dinner, Kody announces the baby and everybody is really excited, except maybe Aspen, Hunter and Maddie. They don't seem thrilled (they're three...

Teenage angst certainly has paid off well.
Just days after a series of grungy rocker photos started making the rounds, Frances Bean Cobain has released a new series of pictures -- this time going old-school Hollywood glam.
The 19-year-old daughter of the late Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain and Hole singer Courtney Love stood in front of the lens of noted music video director Rocky Schenck.
And can we say, she sure looks like Miss World.

Buddy's new bar is hoppin' and there's Lion fever sweeping East Dillon. However, early into "The Right Hand of the Father" we find out that once again trouble is on the horizon.
For starters, there's some major fallout from last week's raucous party. Being that we live in the generation of camera phones and gossip blogs, of course a video of the party has hit the internet. Not just any old video, but one of rally girl initiation and the slutty redhead Maura getting passed around as a "drunk puppet."
Apparently the video got over 2000 hits, damn! For small town Dillon this must be going viral. The principal, parents, and Taylors are horrified however the students are far less apologetic, particularly Maura. She thinks it's funny and continues on her slutty spiral by almost banging a dude in the supply closet. I say almost because no one can pull that...
