This Guy Turned Out To Be Another 'Flake'
ccthemovieman-130 May 2008
Warning: Spoilers
This wasn't much of a mystery, nor was there any controversial trial or result, yet it was still a fairly interesting episode. One of the reasons is the look we got at Battle Creek, Mich., a place I've heard of since I was a little kid thanks to all the cereals which made the town famous. As kids, we'd used to send away box tops and such for prizes and the address was always "Battle Creek, Mich."

Yes, this is "Cereal City, U.S.A.," as they say here on the program. It is the home of the famous Mr. Kellogg, who gave the country "wellness" ideas about exercise, weight-loss, enemas and whatever, and made "Kellogg's Corn Flakes" almost synonymous with being an American. Post Cereals, another giant in the industry, also was at Battle Creek, adding to that title of the family-friendly Midwest atmosphere in "Cereal City."

However, as in any place, nothing is perfect, even a bowl of corn flakes, and in the early 1990s, a big local TV celebrity, Diane King, an anchorwoman, was gunned down right outside her house.

Mr. King was a popular woman, outgoing and energetic and bound-and-determined to be a TV news star. She knew about everyone in town. Her husband seemed to be the opposite: aloof, quiet, but actually was a decent guy and a good family man with their kids. He apparently enjoyed playing second fiddle to a famous wife in town. That came with perks and he didn't have to worry about supporting the family.

However, when she decided he should carry his weight and get a job, and then threatened him with a divorce, he didn't take kindly to the idea. You can guess the result.

Although the jury was out three days deliberating, which made people wonder what the verdict would be, it turned out to be a slam dunk, as everyone expected..
