It's so..odd and dark...yet humorous at the same time that you can't help but see what Tudyk's alien character will do or say next! Normally just being strange doesn't work, but the writers are genius here, and Alan Tudyk as the alien is even more genius! A big shout out to Big Black too!!
Ummm... It's funny with its witty, dark humor, and even some tender moments throughout. Yet, the humor isn't all dark, as there is some come conventional humor spaced throughout too. Usually, my favorite parts are when Alan Tudyk's face is fully shown, which is quite often really, as he morphs his facial expressions to incorporate his incomprehension toward the human species, or his bewilderment by what these new human "feelings" are doing to him.
This show is not that unique in its attempt to put an alien into a human body, however that works! What is unique is it's amazing character writing, story progression, dark humor, enjoyable characters other than the main actor here, and Tudyk's alien performance elevates this show above most others in its genre. All the side characters in Patience, Colorado have their own fun personalities that complement the show very well.
It just works! So many things work, which is rare for any show to pull off. It has a Monk (Tony Shalhoub) TV show type of vibe with how the actors really connect in a funny, and unpretentious way.
Bye. I gotta go scrub the pans...
