Reasonable video, outstanding song

The face and genius of Yacht and Soft Rock has a music video that isn't one of those live performances and that's good since a majority of people wonder why a multi-Grammy winner, hit-maker never showed up on music channels. Well, Christopher Cross got a sad time when the decades turned, new ways of consuming changed significantly and not sure if it was his decision, the record company or even MTV didn't want to explore his talents but the facts is we never got to see much of Cross on visual media except for concert footage. Indeed, the video killed the radio star but by that time he already had his share of fame, awards and success; and as for the songs right from his debut album are immortal. "Ride Like the Wind" is a classic example of Cross artistry, power, talent both as a musician and a lyricist.

As for the clip, this one isn't much special or memorable outside of the song brilliance. It's a basic performance by Cross and his band on stage, no audience and Michael McDonald isn't there to give his "Such a long wat to gooooo!" bit (even though his voice appears as part of the original song, for moronic reasons the director edited to look as if one of the back vocals were actually the one doing it). Easy editing, nothing so appealing in terms of video since that kind of genre was just beginning and there's wasn't much one could do, conceptual or story-like ideas were for really big budget extravagant artists and later on the music video channels and audiences were in high demand for those. Gets a praise because it's a favorite song of mine, never gets old, tiring or innefective. It reaches the stars and beyond, so one does not simply need to get to the border of Mexico to run away. We have this. 8/10
