Although they have known each other for years, this is the first collaboration between Melendy and Robert. Much of their editing took place in two locations, over 5000 miles apart.
Archival footage from both the UK and the US was combined to create the project.
In addition to decades-long careers on the stage and screen, both Melendy and Robert have voiced many characters in both animation and video games. Britt's signature voice portrayed the iconic super-hero She-Ra in the original animated series, and Firth lent his dulcet tones to the super-villain Master Chen in the Lego Dimensions franchise.
When Mirka shared an excerpt with Robert from a memoir she'd been writing, she relayed the incident at the hospital with her dying grandmother. It was just a passing memory in among a series of other events that had occurred around that same time. But it was the line "It's okay, Mama, it's okay," that really captured Robert's imagination. "That's a film, Mirka," he said, "That's a short film."
Melendy recorded the narration for the film in one take. It was initially going to be used as a temp track, but in the end, Firth felt that her delivery was so engaging, it became the actual performance that is heard in the final version of the project.
