- What would happen if Donna never met the Doctor? How would Earth handle the Racnoss, the falling Titanic or the Sontarans? Aided by a familiar blonde time traveler, Donna corrects the alternate time line from happening.
- Donna and the Doctor are having fun at a carnival on a distant planet when she is lured to a tent with the promise of having her fortune told. She inexplicably finds herself in an alternate time line, one where she's never met the Doctor and joined him on their many adventures. In fact, the Doctor has died in the Thames flooding as he was unable to regenerate himself. As a result, all of the events on Earth that they experienced together and the threats they averted now come to pass including the death of several well known people who were connected to the Doctor in one way or another. Rose, who has managed to travel from her parallel universe but doesn't reveal her true identity, assists Donna in setting everything right.—garykmcd
- Attending a carnival on the "Chino-planet of Shan Shen" exposes the Doctor and Donna to flags, pagodas and local colour. But when cajoled to have her fortune read for free, Donna's past is carefully examined - for a specific single event. Meanwhile, something creeps towards Donna's back. Donna is transported to the moment at which she made the choice that led to her meeting with the doctor-- the moment at which she turned left. She instead turns right-- and changes the world, with disastrous consequences.
The Doctor dies--without regenerating--and Donna begins a string of conversations with Rose Tyler, who has been travelling between universes to stop the stars from going out. Donna begins to live her life as though she had never met The Doctor, and the events of Earth unfold as though The Doctor had never intervened. Martha dies, Sarah Jane dies, the Torchwood crew die, the Christmas disasters destroy London, and Britain turns into a crisis government where immigrants are put into "work camps" and the economy is ruined.
Meanwhile, people all around Donna keep seeing something on her back--a large scarab-type animal at the base of her neck. However, when she turns around, it cannot be seen.
Donna is eventually convinced by Rose (who does not reveal her identity) to intervene in the world, telling her that she is special (despite Donna's claims to the contrary). Donna goes to a government installation, finds out that time is being warped around her, and that she must go back to the point at which she decides to turn right instead of left-- to change the course of history. Donna is excited by the prospect of a better world, a better universe, a universe where she travels with the Doctor. However, Rose reveals something which shocks her-- although Donna will change the world, and save alternate universes, and prevent the stars from "going out," she will also die.
Donna goes back in time, and fixes the original problem, but ends up being hit by a truck. As the Donna from that time line dies, Rose whispers two words that Donna must tell the Doctor. Time changes, the universe changes, and Donna is back with the fortune teller-- who is shocked and frightened as the scarab falls off of her back-- her plan foiled. The Doctor and Donna revisit what Donna can remember from the events, and Donna reveals the words that she has been told by Rose--"Bad Wolf."
The Doctor sees "Bad Wolf" everywhere in the signs around him-- and fears for the end of the universe.
