Most of the time, I live in NYC, and most people who watch a series such as this don't.
A lot of fictional series - such as CSI - take series, such as these, and 'enhance' them, to such a degree, that, even people from the smallest of places think it's reality, think the sophistication, and the tools available in a large city, such as NYC are the norm - everywhere, which is FAR from the truth.
This episode - listed as being the first episode of the series on Netflix, takes place in Texas.
I'm not a fan of the south, nor am I a fan of a place where people where (ridiculous) hats, but, be this as it may, it is irrelevant to the main point, which is, this episode uses a lot of high-3end tools, such as blood-splatter analysis, and sending a water-logged audio cassette to the FBI so they can enable them (Texas police) to listen to the damaged tape.
There's more sophisticated tools used here, as well as in other episodes, but, this is the rarity - NOT the situation in most cases, and many cases are examined through much more 'primitive' methods, i.e., 'guessing, hunches,' etc., which lead to MANY false arrests against innocent people.
A big news story which just hit this week say the number of compromised DA's across the US is quite large, and the number of cases they've 'succeceeded' in, are, most likely, WRONG.
It would be terrific if most cases - globally - were solved (correctly) as are shown on TV, as well as film, but, this isn't the case.
Even if one innocent person is in prison in every district - globally - due to bungled forensic work, false prosecutorial work, etc., then that number would be astronomical, but, in fact, it's MUCH larger than even this.
So, bear this in mind when you watch this series, or any series which purports to show how through sophisticated, hi-tech methods, the criminals are brought to justice, because , in many cases, this is FAR from the truth.
