Decent Documentary
The Execution of Jesus (1995)
** 1/2 (out of 4)
This episode in The History Channel's "Mysteries of the Bible" takes a look at the execution of Jesus and the events leading up to it. Reading mostly from the Book of Mark, this 44-minute documentary tells us about the days leading up to Jesus being put to death as we hear about the passover meal, the mysterious woman who sprinkled perfume on him and of course why he was sentenced to death. There's a very good reason why most people agree that it's smart not to discuss religion because there are just so many opinions of what the "truth' is that the subject can lead to some rather violent arguments. I'm sure many are going to look at the stories told here and disagree with them but I think on the whole this is a pretty interesting documentary. At such a short running time it was impossible for anything to dig too deep into details but I think most people interested in the subject will see this as a decent, quick form story. Of course, one could argue that the title is a bit misleading because the actual execution is only discussed for a couple minutes. The majority of the running time is devoted to various mysteries in the story leading up to his death but no real answers are given. Several Biblical experts are on hand to give their thoughts on some of the unknown aspects of the story.
