If you've seen one dog movie, you've probably seen them all, and Boaz Yakin's (Remember the Titans) red-blooded, family-friendly military feature Max isn't going to give you much of anything you haven't seen before. There are dog antics, petty kids coming into their own through their new animal friends, family drama and an obvious villain who just can't have a dog mucking up their plans. It's repetitive, it's lazy, it's narratively tired and plain-faced, but, most of all, it's just plain boring. But it's also entirely inoffensive -- save for some cringe-worthy Mexican stereotypes -- and it's hard to necessarily get mad at a film as vanilla as this. It's tacky, but it's almost like kicking a dog. Literally. As overlong and overplayed as Yakin's movie is, it wears its purebred, red, white and blue intentions on its sleeve, and causing an uproar won't do anyone any good. Good or bad,...

We start the Top 7. You finish the Top 10.
In honor of That’s My Boy, a comedy that pairs together Adam Sandler and Andy Samberg as father and son, let’s imagine other pairs of actors who would make for dynamic father/son duos. And we’re not gonna just put two actors together and let you imagine the rest. We’ve got plot summaries too. So now I’ll just sit by the phone and wait for agents and Hollywood executives to green-light this gold.

Here are the Top 7 Actors Who Should Play Father & Son in a film.
7. Christopher Plummer (“Priest”) & Michael Fassbender (“Prometheus”)
Tentative Title: “Ice Cream Men”
Reason: Fassbender plays the world’s biggest Cher fan, who earns his keep by driving an ice cream truck for a picky boss (played by Jackie Chan) to the different towns of Death Valley.

It wasn’t until I watched Mr. Plinkett’s hilarious review of Cop Dog that it truly hit me how many low budget direct-to-dvd kiddy doggy flicks there have been. It doesn’t look anyone’s going to drive a stake through this subgenre’s heart anytime soon, and that’s a good thing because a Vampire Dog is coming to sink his adorable fangs into your neck.
Seriously, watch that Mr. Plinkett review where he runs down a seemingly endless list of DVD dog movies. It just goes on forever. Adding a bit of a ghoulish twist isn’t out the question either given this year alone has spawned Spooky Buddies, Monster Mutt, and The Dog that Saved Halloween. Now Canadian Tax Shelter Theater, in association with Trilight Entertainment and Joker Films, proudly presents Vampire Dog.
Ace is just like any other new kid at school, until his grandfather...

From Alicia Silverstone and Liv Tyler in Aerosmith's "Crazy" to Megan Fox in Eminem's "Love the Way You Lie," many of Hollywood's elite actresses have taken time away from looking hot on the big screen to look hot in small screen music videos.
Last week, Kristen Stewart joined that list by appearing in the video for Marcus Foster's new single "I Was Broken." I could argue she only did it to keep up with the other previously named actresses.
But on closer inspection, it would appear she did it to keep up with her "Twilight" castmates, many of whom have moonlighted as shining stars in music videos.
Here they all are in one convenient musically diverse package. Sing along, tap your feet… it's about to get Twi-hot up in here.

Bill Plympton is the hardest working animator in the world today. No disrespect to any other hard-working animators out there, but it’s absolutely true about Plympton. He’s constantly working on several working short films and features at the same time. Plus, he flies all over the world to film festivals and events to promote his work, which you can read all about on the new blog Scribble Junkies that Plympton produces with his friend Patrick Smith.
And now Bill Plympton has taken on the monumental task of self-distributing his latest feature film Idiots & Angels, which is about a selfish man who magically grows wings one day that instantly make him a target for other people’s selfish desires to abuse his gift for their own gain.
After a successful festival run, Idiots & Angels will finally make its theatrical premiere at the IFC Center in NYC on Oct. 6. Then,...

Kick-Ass
At this point, is there anything left to say about Kick-Ass? Real people become vigilante superheroes. It's been done before, but this time, it's got a jaw-dropping Hit Girl, a role that's made one Chloe Moretz a sensation. In his review, Todd Gilchrist wrote: "as a full-length film, Kick-Ass is a great comic book come to life, but not much else. A faithful recreation of the rhythms of episodic funny-paper storytelling ... [it] never quite finds enough cohesion or dramatic clarity to become a fully satisfying film." If you're on the fence, you'll want to rent it, but for the rest, Buy it on DVD or Blu-ray

Diary of a Wimpy Kid
It's the story of a wimpy, wise-cracking kid making his way through middle school, but as John Gholson reviewed, it "should've been titled Diary of a Selfish, Dishonest Punk." He continues: "It...

There are only a handful of new releases out on DVD this week, but fortunately these include one of the best movies of the year so far, Martin Scorsese's Shutter Island. Also hitting stores today is Pierre Morel's From Paris With Love starring John Travolta and Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Shinjuku Incident starring Jackie Chan, and the low budget Judd Apatow spoof, The 41-Year-Old Virgin Who Knocked Up Sarah Marshall and Felt Superbad About It. Despite the lack of new movies, there are quite a few TV releases including Curb Your Enthusiasm: Season 7 (featuring the Seinfeld re-union), the first season of Family Matters (featuring the inimitable Steve Urkel), and The A-Team: The Complete Series, which comes in a killer van-shaped package. Do you plan on buying or renting anything this week? Shutter Island [1] (+ Blu-ray [2]) From Paris With Love [3] (+ Blu-ray [4]) Shinjuku Incident [5] Power Kids [6] (+ Blu-ray [7]) The 41-Year-Old Virgin Who...
