Charming with beautiful visuals
TheLittleSongbird18 January 2013
I did enjoy the previous Tinkerbell films, so I watched Tinkerbell and the Secret of the Wings knowing what to expect and hoping it would be as good as the others. And it was. From an adult standpoint, maybe the story is a touch too simplistic and some of the dialogue cheesy(and I have to admit I did find them so at times). This said, the story is also cute and charming with a well-intentioned message, and the main target audience I doubt are going to care too much about what the dialogue is like. Moving on to the many positives about Secret of the Wings, I'll start with the animation, which is really beautiful, full of colour and sparkle. I'd go as far to say that of the Tinkerbell movies, and all of them are well-animated in my opinion, Secret of the Wings is the loveliest from a visual standpoint. The soundtrack is sweet, breezy and unobtrusive, which suits the tone of the story very well. The characters are still likable and engaging, also ones that anybody in the right mindset will relate to. And that is instead of going around saying that it's for "little girls", an irritating stereotype that helps to give the Tinkerbell movies and others movies an undeservedly, I feel, bad rap. They are also very well voiced, Timothy Dalton and Anjelica Huston(the latter being one of my favourite actresses) both do great jobs and gives older audiences to the main target audience at least one reason to watch without prejudice. Overall, a charming and beautifully animated. 8/10 Bethany Cox

"Secret of the Wings" takes Tinker Bell into the depths of the Winter world just in time for Christmas
ersinkdotcom1 November 2012
Warning: Spoilers
Disney continues its "Fairies" franchise with the latest entry in the series, "Secret of the Wings." This marks the fourth movie and there doesn't look to be an end in sight with next year's addition already scheduled. Timing couldn't be better to release the newest sequel since it takes place in the land of Winter and would make the perfect gift for Christmas for any little girl.

A curious Tinker Bell ignores the rules of warm fairies and ventures into the forbidden world of winter. Her dangerous excursion leads her to uncover a mysterious secret and almost break a wing . A bizarre glow overcomes her wings during the quick visit, which drives Tinker Bell to return and delve deeper into the winter woods in search of the Keeper of all fairy knowledge.

"Secret of the Wings" looks fabulous. Its CG animation is clean and picture perfect. A greater amount of visual depth can be felt when watching the 3D version of the film. However, the 2D version is stunning as well. The color schemes are beautiful no matter if the screen is filled with striking whites or darker tones.

An adult that liked this movie
rscampb11 December 2012
I saw this on TV so I missed out on the sound and feel of a Theater viewing. And I think that that is a sad thing. The graphics are great on the small screen so they must be amazing on the big.

The story was very good, though (for grown-ups) a bit predictable. Basically Tinker Bell (a warm weather fairy) wants to cross the border to the winter realm, which is against the rules. Similarly a Winter Fairy wants to see the warm realm. When these two get together the typical Tinker Bell problems ensue requiring fairies from both realms to come together to fix.

For the adults this is escapist entertainment with a mild political overtone. For the kids this is great entertainment with friendship, action, some adventure and just a touch of learning why we have rules.

My only negative comment is the song that played in the background throughout the movie. It is something about dividing or a divide. I don't usually comment on an individual's talent if I cannot do a better job, but whoever was singing that song needs to quit. The voice was like fingernails on a chalkboard and extremely distracting.

I would have given this movie a full 10 stars had it not been for the constant playing of that song.

Charming fun for young 'uns
stu-bell15 October 2012
Warning: Spoilers
It does annoy me when films are judged under a complete misunderstanding of for whom they are intended. I can only imagine that the relatively low rating for this film on this site is due in most part due to viewers seeing this and forgetting it's aimed at 3 to 7 year old girls. I bet most of the voters aren't 3 to 7 year old girls.

I can only endorse the comments of the other posters so far who have all enjoyed it and whose children have enjoyed it. I took my 5 year old today and she loved it. We had only seen the previous Tinkerbells on DVD so I was a tad surprised to see this turn up in the cinema (but not in 3D - glory be!) but I thought it was a decent enough effort which pushed all the right buttons, in the right order, and didn't outstay its welcome. They say that when you notice the backgrounds in a film the plot has lost you, but in this case I don't think that's true; I found the contrasting depictions of the winter/summer fairy lands quite spectacular, adding to the film. Not to mention the animals' furs and feathers...! Good work.

Obviously as an Englishman and childhood fan of Peter Pan I baulk somewhat at the Disney version of Tinkerbell, but as a father of 5 year old Fairy-obsessive, it is what it is. And it does what it sets out to do - quite well, I think.

Mild spoiler: My daughter got upset when the sisters were told they could never see each other again; nevertheless there is no antagonism, peril or violence to put off younger children.

DVD is certainly its natural home, but of its type (and I don't mean anything bad by that) this is pretty good and I think young children would enjoy it very much. Some grown-ups might, too.

A perfect children's movie
hollybellekeating4 December 2012
Tinkerbell and the Secret of the Wings is ultimately and obviously a children's movie (For young girls in particular). From the dialog to the characters, the music and the colors, it is a movie all children would enjoy.

Although there have been many previous Tinkerbell movies, this one concentrates on Tinkerbell and her background. As Tinkerbell becomes fascinated with the forbidden Winter Forest and the Winter Fairies, she embarks on a journey of self discovery and adventure as we delve into her past and explore where she came from.

Like all Disney movies, this movie has big, bold colors, realistic textures, and of course, 3D. We see swooping shots of caricatured forests, glistening glaciers, and picturesque little animals. And once you get over the obviously cheesy dialog, it's actually not a bad film. I wouldn't see it on my own, but if you're looking for something to see with your 7 year old daughter/niece, it's the perfect choice. There's something there for both genders, and it has the feel-good factor of a classic Disney animation.

Although this is not as good as other Disney's movies, such as Up and How to Train Your Dragon, it's a nice, 'pretty' movie. Overlook the wincing humor, and enjoy this film with kids, who will no doubt find the wit hilarious. Try to make it a family day, overpriced popcorn and drinks included.

Good movie for kids
alon-tal5 October 2012
We took our 3.5 year old daughter and a friend of hers to see the movie and they enjoyed it very much. It's good to see a movie with no villain and evil antagonists, and much like the previous Tinkerbell movies we saw before (on TV) this movie is a great joy for little kids. I see its currently low ratings in IMDb and it bugs me that people are rating children movies as if they were meant for adults... Yeah, for me and my wife the movie was pretty simplistic (don't go to see it without the kids :)) but for children it was excellent. Good graphics and great visuals, Good story, No scary things for young children, Not too long for children to sit through, Includes famous beloved character and characters from previous movies. a clear 10/10

A very cool animation with one biggest flaw.
XueHuaBingYu20 May 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Most of the Tinkerbell animations are flawless. That's why my reviews on them are short. But in this one, there's one biggest flaw.

In the first animation, there was a scene that stated only one fairy was born of a laugh. That fairy went to Pixie Hollow and it was Tinkerbell. But in this film, in order to build the story line, they have remade the original story. They corrected one fairy to two fairies. I mean it shouldn't be. No matter how much you want to write any story, what is done is done, it cannot be undone. They shouldn't changed the story which was already written. This is what I don't like of this film.

Except for this fact, everything in this film is so lovable and I totally love the story.

A good story and great animation
enrpat-113 September 2012
I normally go to adult movies. But once in a while, with my little daughter, we decide to go to the theaters to discover the magic of animation. I do frequently criticize movies that do not have strong stories. And animated movies are part of those. But the four movies of Tinker Bell are outstanding. Not only because of the animation or the creativity involved in every situation, but specially because the story is normally so strong, and the characters are so well defined, that a sense of emotion comes from me and my family at the end of the movie, and when any movie touches you in some way, it has achieved its goal. Totally recommended for families and people who wants to discover something new in a classic story.

Tinkering Tales
p-stepien18 January 2013
Innocent and endearing Tinker Bell (Mae Whitman) returns with another tale from the magical realms of faeries. Summer fairies and winter fairies don't mix, as nature has planned each of their roles with forethought. The wings of one will freeze in the cold, while the others whittle away in the heat. Thus both lands are separated with fairies in both quarters bringing harmony across the divide. Nonetheless Tinker Bell was never one to avoid adventure and enchanted by the snowy bliss of winter decides to cross to the forbidden other side, where see encounters her white-haired twin Perriwinkle (Lucy Hale). These events counter the rules of both faerie clans, placing them in conflict with Lord Milori (Timothy Dalton) of the Winter Faeries and Queen Clarion (Anjelica Huston) of the Summer Faeries.

Full of sparkle and some charming characters, Tinker Bell's adventures in Never Never Land are just what they must be: an engrossing experience of wonder for youthful eyes, devoid of unnecessary brutality or subtextual messages for adults (well... not entirely... but almost). Thus a movie focused directly towards its target audience, but with enough sweet allure to at least keep parents in focus. Nonetheless Disney fails to avoid worrying trends to 'barbiefy' the faeries into slender voluptuous dolls. Never a Disney classic, but solidly entertaining with some dazzling Indian made animation (apparently a stark improvement on previous Tinker Bell movies) and enchanting enough to satisfy youth, while not dissuading adults.

Amazing beautiful and creative
ctyankee123 November 2012
This is the story of a fairy that wants to go on the snowy side of the land. Fairies that live on the cold side cannot go on the warmer side of the fairy land and fairies on the warmer side cannot go on the cold side for safety reasons.

One of the fairies - Tinkerbell wants to go to the colder side and speak with the Keeper who wrote a book about fairy wings. She makes a winter outfit for herself and sneaks into a basket carried by winter owls over to the snowy side of the land.

The colors of the land are created beautiful. The flower fields are animated and a layer of flowers in purple open up across the screen.

A rainbow is also animated that goes across the screen that goes into the fields. There is also a very colorful field of butterflies on grass, all beautifully animated.

Two male friends of Tinker are very creative and make a machine that produces snow for a fairy coming over from the cold side.

The scenery is beautiful, the story is funny, very sweet and joyful. It is a wonderful movie for people of any age to see. It is like being in a beautiful fantasy land with characters that are creative, kind and helpful.

Disappointing addition to a previously very good series
surfviper5 November 2012
This is the fourth in the feature-length direct-to-DVD Tinkerbell series.

The previous three videos were entertaining and fairly original.

This most recent addition is uninspired, unoriginal, and overly simplistic. It lacks the relative depth and richness of its predecessors, and the soundtrack is little more than a lightweight disfigurement of those in the previous videos.

A child certainly might like this movie, but it is nevertheless inferior in virtually every way.

If you haven't seen the previous three movies, I'd recommend getting one or all of those.

If you have seen the previous three movies, I think you'll find that this one adds nothing of value to the experience.

Favorite Tinker Bell movie... Beautiful!
iluvcallalilies13 October 2012
Warning: Spoilers
Our family enjoys the Tinker Bell series - I think they are the most beautifully animated movies ever - visually stunning! The plots typically do not grab me that much, but I'll watch them with my girls for the visual "eye candy" of the scenery and setting - the sparkles, the nature, the beautiful animation.

Secret of the Wings may have been the prettiest one yet!

The story held many surprises for us (we had not watched trailers or read about it, so we went in blind other than having watched the previous 3). The story was funny, warm, adventurous and my personal favorite in the collection. Meeting Tinker Bell's sister, Periwinkle, and watching them bond was fantastic. The Keeper was a very lovable "grandpa" sort of character that added to the show and we enjoyed the back story for Queen Clarion.

It is extremely unusual that we enjoy any sequel (x4) as much as the first, but this one surpassed the first by a mile!!! Beautiful!

To be clear - when I rate a child's movie, I am comparing it to other animated movies / rated G - not ALL movies of ALL time. Thus, my score may seem too high to some if they think I'm comparing it to Gone with the Wind, Casablanca, and the like. I am comparing it more to other animated features for children.

Honey, I shrunk the Elsa
df420529 August 2020
Warning: Spoilers
So, let me just get ahead of this. Yes, I am aware that the Tinkerbell movies are meant for children. There, we all good? Okay. I'll start by saying that I actually enjoy the Tinkerbell movies. I very much appreciate that they understand their demographic perfectly. By this, I mean, they don't pander or talk down to their intended audience. This is not a case of, 'Hello children, I'm Mr. Sun. I bring light and warmth' at all. For the most part, the movies are very well written for the 'older than eight, but younger than fifteen' age-range. Now, having said that, let's get to nitpicking. The Secret of the Wings is perhaps the movie that stands out the most in contradiction to everything laid out in the other films. Things that were expressly stated as fact get tossed out the window whenever it becomes convenient. It's basically "Retcon: The Movie" In the first Tinkerbell film, upon her birth in Pixie Hollow, we see that the fairies are sorted into houses...er I mean...they are assigned/chosen by their talent. Here, we very clearly see a snowflake being placed down as one of the potential talents. Yet, in Secret Wings (just for ease) we're told something different. Apparently now the winter fairies are winter fairies only because the winds took them there. So, they don't so much get assigned or chosen to their talent as they just got bad directions. In the first film we see a winter Minister as one of Queen Clarinet's (Yes, I know its Clarion) advisors. This is not the same person we meet this movie, one Lord Milori. Now, I know that it could be explained as 'A Lord and a Minister are not the same thing. Maybe Milori was just busy.' But it still doesn't explain why the Minister seems capable of functioning in the 'warm season' area with no danger to himself. Now for a huge one. We're told that once upon a time that Lord Milori and Queen Clarinet fell in love. But at some point one of them crossed the season border and Milori wound up breaking a wing. This is presented as supposedly being very sad because it means he cannot fly. (RECORD SCRATCH!) WHAT? The movies have repeatedly made it abundantly clear that the fairy's wings are mostly decoration. In the Lost Treasure movie it was said many many many times over. A huge function of the plot revolved around Tinkerbell running out of Pixiedust and needing to walk. Even if you argue that Pixie dust is only the base mechanic and they still need wings to steer and such, you'd be wrong. In Great Fairy Rescue we clearly see not only humans, but animals getting sprayed with Pixiedust and becoming quite adept fliers without the use of wings. So, I'm not really sure what Milori's problem is. Yeah, a broken wing sucks, but spray on some Pixiedust and you'll be fine apparently. Heck, even in this movie the statement is made that without the Pixiedust tree they will no longer be able to fly and that life will change forever. This seems to clearly indicate that it is the Dust itself that provides them with their flying abilities. Now for the biggest one of all. We learn in this film that Tinkerbell has a...dun dun dun... long lost sister! Despite what we saw in the first movie they're gonna retcon the heck out of her birth and show that two fairies were born of the same laugh. Did you know, many websites, agents, and publishers will automatically reject stories where a character suddenly has a long lost sibling? It's considered trite and desperate storytelling that shows no original thinking. There's a reason you don't see "Harry Potter and his lost brother Jerry". Last, but not least, the message. The moral of this one gets oddly muddled. We have Tinkerbell discovering a new world, becoming enraptured by it, being told she cant go there, and deciding to go anyway. Oh, if only we'd had this plot once before already! Yes, it is basically a re-hash of the first movie's plot. It really makes Tinkerbell come of as a very selfish person. Lady, you already got to go to the mainland, something that was unheard of to your kind before you EARNED it. Now, she wants to do it again. This would be like if Ariel went through all the trouble of getting legs from Ursula, came on land and then realized that she could go into outer space. It just seems to send the odd message of 'Always want what you can't have. Then break the rules until you get it.' Queen Clarinet and Lord Milori point out to each respective sister that the rule is not there to be cruel or heartless, it's there to protect them from harm. "You see that 'High Voltage' sign on that door? Trust me when I tell you that the puppy dog store is not behind that door. There's deadly High Voltage back there!" But when its later revealed that Tinkerbell has broken a wing, the respective rulers do a one-eighty. "This happened because we wouldn't let you be together." No, it happened because they broke the rules designed to keep them safe! Its the equivalent of telling your child not to play on the broken down, rusty swingset; but they do it anyway and break an arm; then you saying 'This is my fault for not letting them play on the dangerous swingset!' Another interesting thing of note is exploring the frost-realm. The movie is fairly lackadaisical when it comes to the realm's inhabitants. See Mr. Director, we know all of Tinkerbell's friends, we don't know Periwinkle's friends. We get a quick 'This is Tina' and that's all. Who are these people? What are there personalities? Who is that hunk that works with the Owls? Oh, my! Parkas for everyone! Sled?! His name is Sled? Wow, how long did that one take Mr. Writer? Final thoughts. Not a bad movie (when judging on the scale of children's movies). As always with these films, the animation is done well (trust me, its well above that of the Barbie movies!) It was interesting to see Queen Clarinet's character get some backstory. Its just sad that every time a character gets introduced in these films they're immediately regulated to a cameo in the next one. In the Lost Treasure we got introduced to Blaze the firefly, but in Great Rescue it was a cameo. In the Pirate Fairy movie that comes after this, Periwinkle spends the entire movie sleeping! But again, this movie just seems to jut out as the "Watch as we Retcon live before your very eyes!" A huge part of the plot is just a rehash of the first one with Tinkerbell wanting to be "Part of your world" and the moral lesson is a bit muddled.

Bad
okainavar13 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Continuing my marathon even though I'm not the target audience for this film. I preferred the third film more. Maybe because I got attached to that human child who didn't return in this film and from what I understand they didn't even mention. And now out of nowhere a sister of Tinker Bell appears. Graphically it is beautiful. But the story of this film didn't seem interesting to me. I'm Brazilian and I watch the dubbing in Brazilian Portuguese and unfortunately there were changes in some voice actors including Tinker Bell herself. Not interesting movie but not very bad. Film Watched on September 12, 2023.

Cute and Beautifully Animated, But One Big Slip.
ashley_prettyglimmerpixi5 December 2012
Warning: Spoilers
I liked this movie a lot, it was cute, beautiful, and sweet. However, I couldn't enjoy the movie as much as I would've because of a big slip in a plot line: In the first movie, a snowflake talent fairy greets Tinkerbell with a snowflake, if that were to have been her talent. The pixie dust tree is a "warm" meadow, however, but the snowflake fairy was fine there. Also, Clank and Bobble show Tinkerbell around, and going through the winter woods, they had no problem. What happened to the minister of winter? Because I don't remember a "Lord Miliori" anywhere in that picture. The movie was good, just doesn't follow the other movies.

"But if you're open-minded and good-hearted, your wings can take you Far beyond imagination."
RosanaBotafogo16 March 2023
In this new adventure, Tinker Bell goes to the Winterwoods looking for help in unlocking a secret that could change Pixie Hollow forever. There, the fairy will meet Periwinkle (voiced by Lucy Hale, from the series "Pretty Little Liars") and, together, they will discover that they have a lot in common. Tinker Bell, Periwinkle and their friends venture into the winter forest to find the secret of the winged fairies. With 3D display.

"But if you're open-minded and good-hearted, your wings can take you Far beyond imagination." Despite this movie having a double cuteness (Tinker meets a twin sister) it was the least nice of them all, cute, but the simplest and silliest of the whole franchise...

Kids will love it......

Warning: Spoilers
This movie is not as good as other tinker bell movies. But still i love this movie. Specially the climax, where it shows the original bonding of two sisters. The kiss shared between queen and lord milori was a nice shot. The whole new side of the fairy land. All new peoples. All new fun and all new works, makes this movie very special.

Children in my home are big fan of tinker bell.

Animation is really good. I conclude a message from the movie is ,love cannot be kept apart, whether it is the love of sisters. Tinker bell has a sister Periwinkle....wow...

I have seen the tinker bell series and i love the first part very much.

This movie deserves a watch and 9 stars.

Definitely for a young demographic.
paulclaassen17 September 2018
This installment is about WINTER, and the series now covers all Seasons. This film takes a very different route for Tinker Bell and I'm not sure I like it. Tinker Bell learns she has a sister in another Fairy realm, and does everything in her power to be with her.

The plot is very simple, unlike the previous films, which had deeper underlying themes. The humor was also very cartoonish, making this film aimed at a much younger demographic. Adults might find it difficult to relate to the film or enjoy it as much as its predecessors. I certainly didn't enjoy it as much. There were just too many conveniences and last minute (or second for that matter) rescues, it reminded me of typical Hollywood cliches. I did not find the story convincing enough and over-dramatized, while very melodramatic other times. The fairy inventions are very innovative, though.

Im 22 yrs old and I really enjoyed this movie
lisafordeay13 May 2013
Warning: Spoilers
I got this a while back as I enjoyed its 2010 prequel Tinkerbell and The Great Fairy Rescue and I really found this one HIGHLY entertaining.

Tinkerbell discovers another world where she's from called the winter valley and she decides to go check it out,but what she is about to discover are some secrets that no one told her about.... she really has another sister who is in fact her twin voiced by Lucy Hale called Periwinkle and the two discover the meaning of friendship and trust but one person in particular is not happy that Tinkerbell found her other half voiced by Timothy Dalton. So its up to Tinkerbell to show Periwinkle where she is from putting jeopardy at risk.

The story is really cute and the animation is gorgeous.Overall I really liked this film and im giving it an 8/10

Keep an eye out for the song Great Divide by The McClain Sisters. Its a nice song.

If you've never seen a Tinkerbell film please don't be put off by thinking they are only for kids or for girls
geoffgee22 December 2012
Warning: Spoilers
Each of the Tinkerbell films is very different from all its siblings in many distinctive ways. The Secret of the Wings is no exception. The stories are always of the highest standard. This time the narrative is developed at a fairly gentle pace for almost half the film, allowing the viewer to acquire quite a thorough empathy for the bonding feelings between Tinkerbell and her newly discovered sister, Periwinkle. The second half of the film has plenty of excitement, action and suspense. Tinkerbell's inventiveness and powers of observation are brought to the fore in a race to save nothing less than the whole of Pixie Hollow. Interacting with the winter fairies introduces us to many new characters as well as showing us the icily beautiful wonderland that the winter fairies inhabit. The background music is also excellent and there are some lovely and well sung songs. This is the first Tinkerbell film I've seen on a cinema screen and I absolutely loved the experience. If you've never seen a Tinkerbell film please don't be put off by thinking they are only for kids or for girls. I'm a 68 year old male and I (and my son) love them! Can't wait to add Secret of the Wings to my Tinkerbell blue ray collection (but will hopefully see it again at the cinema before it ends its run).

Another one of Tinker Bell's adventures.
PoynterJuddFletcherJones27 December 2012
Warning: Spoilers
I enjoyed this film quite a lot. It's a Disney film, and most people do enjoy Disney made films.

This movie is about another one of Tinkerbell's adventures, where she finds a long lost sister in the Winter Lands. Where warm fairies cannot go.

Yet, she breaks that rule, as she does with most other rules. And meets Perriwinkle.

A winter fairy, who specialises in frost. They both create a bond rather quickly. And do show characteristics of two sisters.

I loved this film, quite honestly because it's not something that has been done before. And every Tinkerbell film is like this.

Thought to the younger viewers it may be a bit confusing on why we didn't see Perriwinkle in the first Tinkerbell film, where we see Tink born from the laugh.

But other than that, the film is most enjoyable.

Find Magic Agan in the World of Fairies
unruhka3 April 2013
Warning: Spoilers
I loved this movie. I don't have kids, but I love so many movies for kids because many of them are safe for viewing and they hold a magic absent from adult movies. I didn't find this one to have those ever increasing double entendre jokes that are meant to entertain adults with their children. I also like that there wasn't a villain, unless you would consider the quickly approaching freeze line a villain.

I didn't find the dialogue cheesy like others have mentioned. I found the animation to be spectacular, the story simple and pleasing (who needs complicated stories anyway? We have enough of those in our own world.), and the characters vibrant. I did have two points of contention. First, the first Tinker Bell movie depicts winter fairies when Tinker Bell is born and then chooses her talent. One of them puts a snowflake in the talent circle. They seem to be fine and aren't in danger of their wings wilting. The minister of winter flies with other warm fairies outside of the winter woods and seems fine, too. As a reviewer elsewhere stated, how do they fly to the mainland to bring winter if they can't get warm? Second, there is a character who is a comic relief that seems like he was fashioned after pothead/stoner characters, which I don't like. At one point he is meditating yogi style to bring back the pixie dust. I would rather see a praying character, as they are rare, but as Disney doesn't eliminate them entirely from other movies, I'll hold my peace on this one.

Overall, though, I really liked this movie. I can overlook my points of contention because there is enough to redeem the film.

I bought the Blu-Ray of "The Secret of the Wings" after having seen badly ripped tidbits of it. The tiny bits that I saw (in a rather crappy quality) made me wonder about the rest of the movie, and I decided to just buy the movie.

Now, I have to admit that Disney's fairies are kind of a guilty pleasure for this grown-up geek. I know they are, basically, meant for kids, however, there are enough little jokes and visual gags that go over the heads of little ones, to entertain grown-ups too.

Aside from the gags and little in-jokes, the high quality blu-ray visuals are absolutely stunning, even in 2d. The color palette is gorgeous, atmospheric and translates very well to a smaller screen. The animation is very good. Some mo capping seems to have been used, but not consistently. Frankly that's a bit of a shame. Kids won't notice, but this art-school drop-out noticed that the upper-torso movements, the little twitches that every human has, were captured in sheer perfection, and show the craft of the Disney animators. However, walking animations, and animal animations were not very convincing and pulled me a bit out of the "immersion" The snow-owls were adequate, but the lynx was absolutely not.. Nit-picking, I know.

And while I am at it, the "songs" were an uninspired atrocity, belted-out by some talentless, soulless...person.. Brrrr. The rest of the music was good, with nice little touches of classical pieces. Listen f.i. careful to the theme played when Tinkerbell and her sister, Periwinkle "dance" around each other for the first time.

The story on its own was a nice adventure bit, with some really funny characters that were brought to joyful life by an excellent combo of very talented voice-actors (and some big names at that..) and the Disney animators that, as already stated, absolutely know their craft.

All in all movies like this show that CGI doesn't have to be lifeless shiny stuff, and prove that in the hands of people that know what they are doing, can be just as charming (and tugging at your heart-strings) as drawn animation.

On a side-note: What struck me, was an underlying message that girls can do technical stuff too. Tinkerbell designs, and builds a snow-maker with the help of the other girls. The boys just deliver the parts. Tinkerbell..well.. She "tinkers" and is still, undoubtedly a girl. That's an on-going theme in the Disney-fairy movies and shorts. I think it is a really good, empowering thing for girls to be told:"yes, you can/may build technical gizmo's. It's not just a boy-thing, or a weird geek-thing".
