Very misleading title and cover
chrichtonsworld11 May 2008
Warning: Spoilers
"Sight" has a very interesting (although not very original) premise. And at first it seems to be about this premise. Jeffrey seems to be able to see ghosts. And of course nobody believes him. When he discovers that this woman Dana also seems to have this sight he is relieved and happy that there is another person like him. Only this encounter has more consequences than he hoped for. At first it is real thrilling to see what is happening to Jeffrey and why it is happening. But soon you will realize that there is not much to the story and that having the sight only plays a very small role in the events that are presented to us. Throughout this movie there are some hints that Jeffrey isn't a complete victim. This fact gets so blown out of proportion that you do expect something wild to happen at the end. The conclusion of "Sight" is disappointing to say the least. Don't be fooled by the title and the cover. It promises a lot. But fails to fulfill that promise.

Convoluted mess that perhaps is trying to pass as art
Nywildcat15 January 2012
Warning: Spoilers
When I watch a low budget movie, I don't compare it to the same standards that I would to a big budget Hollywood epic. I completely understand the lack of funds, so I don't necessarily have a problem with poor lighting, bad acting (you get what you pay for), etc. What I look for most is story. Is it at least well written? With "Sight", I would have to say yes and no. The storyline is interesting at first (man who can see dead people meets girl that can, too). Only to end up a messy, convoluted mess that at some parts don't make sense. For example: When Jeffrey relays the story of the first time he saw his mother's ghost, he was so scared he trips and impales himself on a wooden stake from a fence (you're left to wonder if that really happened). He has other confusing visions like that throughout the movie too. Jeffrey also sees ghosts everywhere, but doesn't really interact with any of them. His seeing ghosts can almost be considered superfluous to the plot (except for the ending that involved Dana's father). Now I know that in can be argued that the filmmaker's point was to throw red herrings at you to make you think whether or not he was telling the truth about his abilities, are these actual memories, or was he just hallucinating? But they throw so much at you, that after awhile, you just stop caring. And, of course, there was the usual "twist" ending.

This movie had a lot of potential, and really could have been an interesting little indie film had it had a few more rewrites and underwent a little more editing.

*SPOILER ALERT* Terribly Written and Unbearably Quiet Talking
talkingpenguin31 February 2013
Warning: Spoilers
There are many points in this movie that make no sense and/or confuse the viewer to no end (until the end). As it starts out, Jeffery meets "Dana" out of sheer coincidence and after first meeting and talking this woman gives him a fake alias "Dana" being the name of her aunt. Question, If you're going to mislead someone, would you give them the name of someone you know and could possibly point the person you're misleading back to you? Though it's planned by "Dana" she doesn't know that Jeffery killed her uncle till close to the end (obviously) but, why is the only evidence a Rosary? Also, why did she mislead Jeffery from the very start if she didn't know he killed her uncle till close to the end? Also, on Jeffery's quest for answers, if anyone has watched this film, I believe that he takes a cab back to his uncle's place and tells the cab driver to wait for him, he goes into his uncle's house, takes a shower but never goes back into the cab. I won't rag on this film due to low budget production, but I will rag on it due to the fact I had to turn on the subtitles just to understand what they were saying in the movie. Most of the time, the actor's volume in their voice was so low that I thought they were just mumbling to themselves.

One of the worst movies I have ever seen...
froose28 May 2008
I watched this movie to completion because I sat in utter disbelief at how awful it was... like watching an accident in slow motion. The acting, editing, sound editing, special effects... EVERYTHING was terrible. Every performance was underwhelming and for the most part seemed improvised. The absolute worst part, though, was the sound. There was clearly no post voice-over work done with the actors, so it relied on sound that was captured by the initial shoot. This left it mismatched with the sound effects/score which was WAY louder that the dialog forcing me to continually adjust the sound between conversation and 'action' sequences.

I won't even get into how inane the story/writing was... there is really no point in discussing it seeing that the movie misses the mark on every other aspect of the production.

Definitely skip this waste of time.

This movie sucks
paradoxbox-129 June 2008
This movie was not worth watching. As other people have mentioned, the acting is absolutely awful. I'm sure a better cast could have been found by using rejects from film making school.

The editing is irritating - quarter second views at different angles of the same object, combined with the irritating audio. The voices are too quiet to hear without turning the volume up, but annoying electronic sounds like phones and alarm clocks ringing practically blow out your speakers.

The story does not make sense. One of the first scenes is completely bizarre. I watched this movie with friends who do not speak English. Despite the lack of dialogue in the beginning of the film we both could not figure out what was happening.

I recommend not wasting your time with this film. I'm surprised any company even backed this production financially and decided to publish it.

This movie is easily the worst I've ever seen.

You Can Smell The Decay
geminate724 May 2008
Warning: Spoilers
Sight is a real snoozer, the kind of movie to fall asleep to. I am inclined to believe that someone on YouTube made this movie, yeah, it's that bad.

There is a complete lack of acting ability, this crew couldn't fake an emotion if life depended on it. Continuity is also a major problem. The scenes are rather simple and straightforward, so how can they screw that up? Well they did in very obvious ways. If the movie wasn't so bad it might be interesting to count all the mistakes by watching again, but Hell would have to freeze over before I could bear that.

It isn't even enough of a bad movie to actually have something to say about it. So I leave you here, warning you to stay away. If you do watch, remember that bell that goes off in your head during the first two minutes of the film that tells you this is going to suck - because you are dead right.

Sight, dead from end to end and almost everyone does die.

Pretty good for a low budget Phila Movie
EEBrown-124 May 2008
I think this movie was pretty good for a low budget Philly movie. It contained some basic elements as twists, who done its, and so forth. These elements keep you guessing, causes you to wonder and be confused, as well as makes you jump at times. There is an artistic use of lighting, as well as the volumes of voice. Then there was the purposeful absence of facial expression when called for. All the makings of a decent flick. Everyone wants to be a critic.

The movie was good enough to be selected by one or more film festivals and get a distribution deal, which is a lot more than what some of you critics can boast about.

So there.

Colliage of Bad Dreams
don_robeo30 April 2008
Warning: Spoilers
O.K., just saw this and thought I'd say a little something while it was fresh since there's no other comments. This is low-budget film backed by Lion's Gate Entertainment. I admit that was the main reason I watched it. Usually I'd put my money on those guys. It paid off well enough. First let me say, if you don't like those youtube videos where you are staring at something harmless like an empty room and after a few moments goes by all of a sudden there's a high pitched squeal from a demon lady ogling you then DON'T WATCH THIS MOVIE. Chances are you are gonna jump a few times during this. The colors of the film itself are the wash-outed look of "The Matrix" movies (when its not in a black and white dreamscape) and in my opinion work really well. Other than that there isn't much more that I can say about my opinion other than I was entertained. Some of the acting from secondary characters left much to be desired (including the young Dana, the old Dana was o.k.), you'll know when you see. I'm not gonna harp or rave every detail but the film did work, holes and all. The dreams got a little confusing sometimes and I felt I wasn't sure what did happen in real time by comparison but, the film stayed interesting if not riveting from start to finish. The rest contain spoilers...

The story revolves around and is seen through the eyes of a young man named Jeffery. At an early age Jeffery saw things, dead people, that nobody else could. His father, who hasn't been right since he lost Jeffery's mother during childbirth, ruefully disbelieves him when Jeffery tells him he has seen his mother and has him committed to a mental hospital.

Years later, Jeffery finds out that his father has committed suicide and when he is released stays clear of his house. One night he bumps into a girl(Dana) right after he has "seen" a dead person in an alley who seems "see" her also. They talk for awhile over coffer until Dana has to go with the request Jeffery help her the next night deliver food to the elderly. Jeffery shows up and meets Paul whom he assumes is Dana's boyfriend who drives them both to their delivery points. Paul doesn't like Jeffery from word go and tells him to stay away from Dana. Later that night a distressed Dana calls Jeffery and asks him to pick her up because Paul had been "drinking and acting weird". She asked if she could stay at his place and Jeffery agreed, she could have the bedroom he'd stay on the couch. Jeffery awakens to a crash and Paul coming at him with a baseball bat. Paul puts him in a coma for almost a year and a half.

Jeffery must figure out what happened to him and why. Who is Dana? Who is Paul and why did he try to kill me? With nightmares and spooks behind every closet door, this was a pretty fun low-budget film.

Excellent Low-budget Horror flick
proteusphi2 August 2008
The 2008 horror film "Sight" can only be called a diamond in the rough. It's production values are humble, but the director, write, and actors all come through to deliver a surprising creepy and deeply dark tale.

The story centers around Jeffery, a quiet, introverted man who just so happens to be able to see the dead. A movie that never pulls punches, "Sight" opens up with a tableau of Jeffery's childhood and the abuse he suffers from his father. The acting and storytelling skill of this scene alone is enough to understand why Lionsgate would have produced such a low-budget film. From there the story transitions into Jeffery's adult life where he encounters the mysterious Dana, a woman sets off a chain of events that spiral our hero into a world of darkness. I won't give too much away, except to say that once you look past the image quality of the film, the story will make it impossible to stop watching until the end.

This brings us to the one bad aspect of the film: the low-budget appearance. You can tell they didn't have a lot to work with; but what they did have, they used remarkably well. The blood and gore look creepier and more realistic than in "Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street" - I kid you not. The lighting in "Sight" is both a blessing and curse. At times it gives the film an impressionistic feel, but at other points you're straining your eyes just to see what's going on. The movie is just SO dark at some parts, but too bright and blurry at other parts. The film quality they were using really shows, and it's sad.

What isn't anything to worry about is the acting. I found Clayton Haske (Jeffery) and Tony Luke (Paul) totally believable. Allison Persaud seemed a little amateurish, but more experience she is really going to do great.

All in all this is a movie that came out of nowhere to be something truly dark and scary. Schizophrenic shots, sadistic nightmare sequences, impressionistic lighting, gory visual effects and LOADS of blood, hair-raising sound effects and a score that will remind you of the Silent Hill games. It all comes together for a stunning American ghost story with a pitch black ending. With all the remakes that studios have been doing recently, I feel this one should near the top of the list. Regrettably, the gritty and dark storyline may be too much for some. But horror fans will definitely like this. Look out for writer/director Adam Ahlbrandt, he's truly talented.
