Exclusive: MGM Alternative is undergoing some leadership changes.
Lucilla D’Agostino is taking sole charge of MGM-owned producers Big Fish Entertainment (On Patrol: Live) and Evolution Media, which is behind a number of The Real Housewives franchises, after the exit of Dan Cesareo.
Cesareo founded the company, which was also behind A&e’s Live Pd and Food Network’s Amy Schumer Learns To Cook, in 2006 and sold it to MGM in June 2018. It is understood he is exiting after his five-year deal came to an end.
Cesareo will still oversee and exec produce On Patrol: Live, which has become a ratings success for Reelz, and D’Agostino will also exec produce. Cesareo’s arrangement is similar to that of former MGM’s Worldwide Television Group Chairman Mark Burnett, who will continue to exec produce legacy series The Voice, Shark Tank and Survivor, and Alex Baskin, who continues to exec produce...

VH1’s “RuPaul’s Drag Race” led all nominees as the Critics Choice Association and nonfiction producers’ organization Npact announced on Wednesday the nominees for the third annual Critics Choice Real TV Awards. The org also announced it would posthumously honor late “Jeopardy” host Alex Trebek.
“RuPaul’s Drag Race” landed five awards, including best competition series, best ensemble cast in an unscripted series, female star of the year for Michelle Visage, and both male star of the year and best show host for RuPaul Charles.
Programs next in line with three nominations included “Queer Eye” (Netflix), “Stanley Tucci: Searching For Italy” (CNN), “Taste the Nation with Padma Lakshmi” (Hulu), and “Top Chef” (Bravo). Netflix led all outlets with 22 nominations, while the Critics Choice for some reason decided to combine HBO and HBO Max’s tallies, even though they are technically separate outlets, and together they received 14 nods.

It may be the dawn of a new era: Freshman series, especially in the unscripted categories, are having their moment with the Television Academy.
Of 15 nominees across competition, unstructured and structured programs, almost half (seven) were newcomers to the Emmy race, with six of those seeing accolades their first time eligible. In unstructured, this includes Food Network’s remotely produced “Amy Schumer Learns to Cook”; Netflix’s “Cheer” and “Kevin Hart: Don’t F**k This Up”; and HBO’s “We’re Here” while in structured the new nominees are Netflix’s “Love Is Blind” and HGTV’s “A Very Brady Renovation.” Fox’s “The Masked Singer” finally broke into the competition-program category its second year up at Emmy bat, the only newcomer to that race.

“Expecting Amy,” a new docu-series on HBO Max, opens with its subject, the comedian Amy Schumer, weeping happy tears in a self-shot video. She’s trying to distract herself from the massive personal upheaval soon to be wrought by her pregnancy — or trying to compound her sudden joy — by doing something touristy and cute; she’s at the zoo. As the series runs on, it becomes clear that for Schumer, a trip to the zoo is nothing new, but she’s just usually the attraction, not the guest. Framed as a document of Schumer’s growing family, “Expecting Amy” is most intriguing as a “Truth or Dare”-style examination of fame, a look at the act and life of a comedian coming into conflict.

Amy Schumer is serving up more of her new Food Network program to fans.
The comedienne will return this summer after the Discovery-owned cable outlet agreed to order additional episodes of “Amy Schumer Learns to Cook,” a series in which Schumer and her husband, Chris Fischer, self-shoot culinary escapades. Their nanny, Jane, and dog and son, make cameo appearances. Recent broadcasts have allowed audiences to see Schumer trying to make a prosciutto and brie sandwich or lamb sliders, as well as applesauce for their son.
“We are happy to be coming back for a second season because sequels are always the best!” says Schumer, in a statement. “Chris and I are proud to be partnering with Food Network to donate to Colin Kaepernick’s Know Your Rights Camp whose mission is to advance the liberation and well-being of Black and Brown communities through education, self-empowerment, mass-mobilization and the creation...

ViacomCBS is cutting ties with Big Fish Entertainment, the MGM-owned shingle behind A&e’s recently canceled “Live Pd.” A&e is not a ViacomCBS network, but ViacomCBS did run shows from Big Fish including VH1’s “Cartel Crew,” “Black Ink Crew,” “Black Ink Crew: Chicago,” “Love & Hip Hop Miami,” “Love & Hip Hop: New York” and “Love & Hip Hop Atlanta.” Big Fish had only recently become a producer on the “Love & Hip Hop” franchise.
Most recently, Big Fish produced the Covid-19-related special “Club MTV Presents #DanceTogether with D-Nice” for MTV.
“We have decided to end our relationship with Big Fish Entertainment and will be producing our shows in house at this time,” a ViacomCBS Entertainment & Youth Group spokesperson said in a statement. “We thank Big Fish for their past contributions and wish them the best.”
