Warmoth's out again today. He hates me, you see. Really though, he busts his rear for this column and he gets a break whenever he wants it. The Twitter-Wood was relatively quiet today, but not so quiet that I've got nothing for you. Aubrey O'Day made some noise with a fairly scandalous TwitPic, the one that earned today's Twitter Pic of the Day honors. There were some strong runner-up contenders however from Danny Masterson and Fred Durst.
On the text tweet front, Amber Benson talks about her painful future as a roller derby girl, Rainn Wilson makes a startling observation, Michael McKean comes up with a brilliant movie idea and Ice-t addresses a very personal rumor. Plus, Gil Birmingham from the totally unpopular "Twilight" series brings an update from the set of "Eclipse." I'm @geminibros and this is your Twitter-Wood for October 2, 2009. Have a kickass weekend, y'all.

There are plenty of new releases in theatres this week, although as usual, some of the most interesting stuff seems to be in select theatres only. The majority of us will have to choose from the space horror flick Pandorum, sci-fi actioner Surrogates starring Bruce Willis, and the remake of Fame, but if you're lucky you might get to catch Michael Moore's new movie Capitalism: A Love Story, Tiff hit The Boys Are Back, or the buzzed-about low-budget horror movie Paranormal Activity. Trailer Park Boys: Countdown to Liquor Day is also playing in wide release in Canada, and Drew Barrymore's Whip It will be playing sneak previews in a lot of theatres on Saturday night. Do you plan on checking anything out this weekend? Pandorum [1] Fame [2] Surrogates [3] Trailer Park Boys: Countdown to Liquor Day [4] (Canada only) I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell [5] (limited) Paranormal Activity [6] (limited) Capitalism: A Love Story...

This week, contrasting approaches to filmmaking bring about balance and equilibrium. Experimentalism (Sally Potter's "Rage" and Michael Almereyda's "Paradise") collides head on with tried and tested formulas (the Clive Owen starrer "The Boys Are Back" and a remake of "Fame").

"Blind Date"
Stanley Tucci adapts and stars in the second remake from the canon of slain Dutch director Theo Van Gogh, the first being Steve Buscemi's 2007 "Interview." A whimsical psychological tussle between a husband and wife who play games to patch up their marriage, the story hones in on the attempted romantic rediscovery between long-married Don (Tucci) and Jenna (Patricia Clarkson).
Opens in New York.

Although there are a handful of movies in limited release this weekend, such as the Dennis Quaid/Ziyi Zhang thriller The Horsemen, and the festival hit Explicit Ills, the only movie that 99% of us want to see right now is Zack Snyder's Watchmen. Of course, this begs the question: who will watch the Watchmen? Will this be a bigger breakthrough hit than 300 was, or will it be confined solely to the comic book literati? I probably won't see it for another day or two, so feel free to start the discussion here. Indie distributors Regent Releasing and Film Movement have snagged two film fest faves.
Regent has acquired worldwide rights to Russell Brown's sophomore feature "The Blue Tooth Virgin." Austin Peck, Bryce Johnson, Tom Gilroy and Karen Black star in the story of a rift between a screenwriter and his close magazine editor friend. "Virgin," which won the special jury award at this year's Seattle International Film Fest, will hit theaters in early 2009.
Film Movement nabbed North American rights to Fernando Eimbcke's Mexican dramedy "Lake Tahoe." The Spanish-language tale of a teen and the strange inhabitants of his small town picked up the Fipresci Award and the Alfred Bauer Prize at this January's Berlin International Film Festival. It will be released in U.S. theaters next year.
Regent's Mark Reinhart negotiated the "Virgin" deal with Eastgate Pictures' Ronna Wallace. Film Movement's Adley Gartenstein negotiated the "Tahoe" deal with Funny Balloons' Peter Dunner.
