- Rainbow Dash's competitive spirit is put to the test when a new pony challenges her to a contest unlike any other. Rainbow Dash faces off against Dishwater Slog in a loser-take-all race to finally prove which pony is truly the worst.
- Rainbow Dash is holding a large trophy on her head while jamming to some tunes. She's interrupted by a small blue colt (Smallfry) who admires her racing ability and asks how she does it. Dash explains her talent and that she does it for the fans. She then drops the trophy on him, squishing him comically before dashing away to Sugarcube Corner. Once there, she finds Pinkie, with Twilight's help, hanging an employee of the month image, of Dash! Dash is confused since she doesn't work there, but Pinkie explains she's just that good. Dash then thanks her, and expresses she loves all her friends, so they group hug. Pinkie then serves a milkshake to a pony sitting at the counter, but he lets it fall off and shatter. His appearance highly contrasts the cleanly look of other ponies: He has a thin mustache, moldy pizza cutie mark, stained wife-beater top showing some scraggly chest hair, tuque with loose strings, and an even worse mane with a nacho stuck in it. He orders another milkshake, which he also lets shatter on the floor, as he says he's heard of Rainbow Dash, and wants to know whether she's not just the best of the best, but the best at being the worst. He says his name is Dishwater Slog and challenges her to a fail-off! Dash and Pinkie laugh off the idea, but Dishwater goads her about being scared of a little friendly competition, enraging Dash. Dash immediately begins boasting about herself, and rhyming while doing it; while she flubs the last rhyme, he praises her rhyming, and then indicates that she's already lost by winning. He then specifies that the fail-off is for the next 24 hours, and that the 3 categories are athleticism, creativity, and emotions. Dash accepts the challenge, but Applejack points out that it's silly to be intentionally worse, and points out the worst Dash has ever been is not returning a lent book. Dash dashes out, and Pinkie asks Dishwater whether he should be too, but he says that not trying is his thing. Outside, Dash manages to lift a building over her head, while Dishwater struggles to raise an empty soup can off the ground. Dishwater points out that she's just lost by winning as a light breeze knocks over the can. Back at Sugarcube Corner, Pinkie offers Dash a cake to fail to decorate. Dash splatters it haphazardly. Dishwater calls it impressive, confusing Dash, but then Twilight oohs at the "perfect randomness" Dash accomplished. Dishwater then presents his attempt: Vandalism of one of Pinkie's employee of the month pictures, putting himself in poorly drawn as customer of the month, which makes Pinkie cry. Rarity faints upon seeing it. Dishwater gloats, which makes Dash mad, but then he points out expressing emotions so healthily will make her win, and thus lose, the emotions round.
Outside Rarity's place, Rarity explains that she will be Dash's director, and Dishwater expresses eagerness at seeing it. Dishwater slowly explains to Dash that the way to fail is to suppress all emotions, which angers Dash, and Rarity has to remind her not to take the bait. Rarity then has Fluttershy try to garner sympathy, and then Applejack bring up grievances to Dash. Dash holds firm, but then Smallfry runs over to cheer her on...and is tripped by Dishwater Slog. Smallfry's crying makes Dash check whether he's okay, and then get angry at Dishwater, who brushes her off. Fluttershy then enlarges angrily and tries to intimidate him over his behavior, but he brushes her off too. Dash then points out that Dishwater is actually succeeding at being a jerk, and has done so in each event, making them tied. The two go forehead to forehead and agree on a tiebreaker race at sunset. Back at Sugarcube Corner with her friends, Dash is extremely worried, as she doesn't think she can fail a race. Pinkie and Twilight say they believe in her, but it doesn't do much. Dash tries a potion to make her worse, but it gives her eye lasers, and when she uses them on a cake, it actually fixes it! Outside, at sunset, Dash does pre-race stretches next to Dishwater. The two exchange a bit of trash talk about how the other will do better. Once the signal is given by Twilight, Dash speeds off, but then crawls in reverse, and Dishwater, sitting at a bench with a newspaper, sees her and does the same. Pinkie cheers on Dash losing with pom poms, and Applejack is disturbed by how this just isn't the same Dash. As the final leg comes up of reversing back to the start, Smallfry cheers Dash on. This however triggers Dash's competitive spirit again, and makes her decide to ditch the challenge and speed off to the finish line. Dash's friends cheer, but Dishwater comes over to smugly point out she lost the fail-off. Dash doesn't take the bait, politely saying good game, upsetting Dishwater. Rarity and Pinkie congratulate her on being the worst of the worst, making her happy. Dash then reiterates she does it for the fans to Smallfry, and gives Applejack her book back. As Twilight talks excitedly about reading it, Dishwater comes over and says he'll now spoil the ending.
