- Vic launches his latest plan to get rid of the Armenian threat. However, the main difference in this plan is that, if successful, it will get rid of Shane too. Meanwhile for Shane, a ghost from his past reemerges.
- Previously on...: Vic discovered Pezuela's blackmail box and aligned with Aceveda to bring Pezuela down. Aceveda kept the box, though, costing Vic any leverage he had because of it. Vic told Pezuela the Armenians had the box and put his man, Armando Rios, in the position of dealing with Vic and the Armenians to get it back. Mackey also found out that FBI Agent Olivia Murray was in the blackmail box and was "running errands" for Pezuela. She told Vic she was in too deep with Pezuela and had no idea how to get out, and he told her, "you're talking to the right guy." Ronnie, meanwhile, was worried about their reliance on Shane because of what he did to Lem.
An alarming situation: Officer Tina Hanlon responded to an alarm at an apparently abandoned building, where she found a guy with no clothes on and blood smeared across his chest.
Aceveda told Vic he was turning Pezuela's blackmail box over to the Justice Department. Mackey said he wanted to get Pezuela put away before the box was turned over. Mackey told Aceveda he wanted one day to get Rios, the man who does Pezuela's dirty work, and maybe get him to give Pezuela up. Aceveda agreed to give him 36 hours, but said the box was getting turned in, either way.
Tina's naked guy "seemed scared" and "thought he hurt somebody, but he can't remember." She gave the case to Dutch.
Vic and Ronnie visited Lem's grave and Vic remembered Shane standing next to him at Lem's funeral, when Vic vowed to get the guy who killed Lem. "All this time has passed and I still haven't made good on my promise," Vic said. Mackey told Ronnie Aceveda was taking the box to Justice. Mackey said he had a plan to dig them out of all their holes. He'd get rid of the Armenian problem, "take care of Pezuela" in a way that secures his badge, and get Lem his justice. Ronnie was worried that with a 36-hour deadline, they'd make a mistake. "What I'm thinking about won't ever lead back to us," Mackey said.
Vic came back and told Shane about a plan to get Rezian to buy the blackmail box. Shane started to say he felt good to move past all this, and said he felt a weight lifted ... but was interrupted when Detective Tavon Garris, one of the former Strike Team members, walked in. Shane and Tavon greeted each other coldly, while Tavon chatted up Vic and Ronnie a little. He was there to talk to Shane, though, about Gary Barba, who Vic called "a blast from Shane's past." Shane had arrested Barba years earlier for rape, but the case fizzled and he ended up killing his family a week later. He'd been clear for six years, but he reached out to his daughter recently. Camille, the daughter, said shed only meet with her father if Shane was there. Tavon apologized to Shane "for hitting Mara that night." (Tavon's departure from the Strike Team came about after he and Shane got in a fight and Mara ended up hitting Tavon in the back of the head with an iron, leaving him so dazed he crashed his car after leaving and ended up in a coma. Lem later told Tavon that he'd nearly killed Mara.) Shane said he'd moved on, and so had Mara.
Shane told Vic he's have to go back and forth between the Rezian deal and handling Barba. Vic met with Pezuela and told him the Armenians were meeting. Pezuela told him to coordinate with Rios. Shane went to meet with Camille and prepare her for talking to her dad. Vic went to visit Corinne, who was stoned out of her mind on downers to get some sleep. Vic got angry.
The naked guy told Dutch he sleep walks and didn't remember anything after falling asleep watching the news. He was still scared he hurt someone. He was separated six months earlier and Dutch and TIna went to find his estranged wife, in case she was the victim.
Shane and Vic went to talk to Rezian an set up a meeting time of 9 p.m. Rezian resisted, but Shane promised he'd be there and "pull the plug" if anything looked out of place. Vic looked a little surprised by that, but told Rezian, "Can't get a better guarantee than that!"
Tina hung a sketch of the suspect in the shooting of the city controller, and Danny thought she recognized the face as the man who'd attacked her in the gun store weeks earlier, where the cops had tracked down the guys who'd dragged a couple of Salvadoran guys on the back of a truck.
Wyms went to Ronnie to find out where Vic was and Ronnie covered for him, saying he was tracking down a lead. Wyms thought he was lying and covering for Vic and laid into Ronnie pretty good, reprimanding him and threatening his job.
Vic told Ronnie that Rezian was good with the blackmail box deal and told him that "Shane even offered to ride the deal from the Armenians' side, I didn't even have to suggest it to him." Ronnie said, "This is going to work, isn't it?"
Dutch realized that the naked guy was lying about his sleepwalking and that what he was really doing was covering all his bases. "If we don't find the victim, he just comes off as paranoid," Dutch told Wyms. "If we do, he's already established his defense."
Agent Murray showed up and said Rios, Pezuela's dirty-work guy, needed safe passage out of the country, probably because something big was going down that night. Mackey pretended he hadn't heard anything. Murray said she was thinking about turning herself in, but she'd keep Mackey clear. Mackey wanted her to string Rios along so they could buy time to catch him red-handed. Mackey went to Rios and assured him that "everyone who counts" would be at the meeting that night. (We think this includes Shane?). Mackey told Rios that if he puts one of them in the ground, "you better make sure you put 'em all there."
Shane told Vic that his meeting with Camille's dad got delayed, so he had to push the Armenian-Mexican meeting a couple of hours. Mackey didn't like that, but agreed and told Shane to make sure they were there on time.
Dutch tried to coax the naked guy into confessing what he'd done and Wyms asked for some time alone with him.
Murray told Mackey that Rios had been put on a federal watch list and had camera-cop surveillance following him around. Mackey looked worried -- he'd just met Rios -- and asked, "Audio, too?" Murray said she didn't know, but she had to turn herself in because her name would be the first out of Rios' mouth. Mackey told Ronnie about Rios' surveillance, knowing that photos of him chatting with Rios would make it hard to deny involvement when they arrest him. Instead of calling it off, Mackey decided to go through with the meeting that night if it meant getting Rezian, who knew about Mackey's involvement with the money train, and keeping his family safe. He'd miss getting Pezuela, but, Ronnie noted, they'd "finally get Shane." Mackey gave Pezuela a warning about the surveillance on Rios.
Wyms got inside the naked guy's head, discovering the dark thoughts he had about hurting women.
Shane and Tavon sat by at a park where Camille was going to meet her dangerous father. Tavon asked Shane to tell him what happened the night that he was led to believe he'd hurt Mara, but Shane refused. They arrested Gary Barba, who asked Shane to tell Camille that he was sorry. Shane told Gary that sometimes it's too late to say you're sorry, no matter how much you mean it. Vic saw this, but said nothing.
Vic pulled Shane away for a moment, while Ronnie messed around with Shane's gun, which was in a drawer next to the holding cell inside the barn. Vic told Shane to get to the meeting early.
Tavon asked Shane if he could stop by over the weekend to apologize to Mara. Shane said it wasn't necessary. Tavon said he needed to try to make some peace with it. Shane said Mara might not be comfortable with it, and Tavon said, "Yeah, she might not have her iron ready this time." Tavon explained that he could remember almost everything about that night, except for hitting Mara. "You know why I can't remember that, Shane?" Tavon said. "Because it didn't happen. Did it?" Tavon said Shane had Lem to cover him so he wouldn't get in trouble, and he was guessing it wasn't the first time they've covered for him. Tavon said he found out who Shane really was.
Shane went back inside to get his bulletproof vest, which raised eyebrows for Ronnie and Vic. Shane told them maybe they'd be better off if he wasn't around, so he'd transfer out once the whole thing was over and Vic's family was safe. Vic said they had no ax to grind and Shane said, "OK. I'll see you on the other side." Vic looked disturbed and when he went outside Corinne was there. She handed him the meds she'd been taking to help her sleep and she asked him not to take the kids from her. He asked if that's who she thought he was, and she said, "We both know who you are. Just don't do it."
Dutch thought he'd found the naked guy's victim, a woman stabbed five times whose body was found a couple of miles from where Tina found him. Wyms asked the naked guy if he wanted to confess and he asked for a lawyer.
The meeting time was near and Vic panicked, telling Ronnie they had to pull Shane out of there. He said he couldn't go through with it. Ronnie tried to talk him into it, but Vic said, "It's not too late, we still have a choice." Ronnie said, "Do you think Shane gave Lem a choice?" "I'm not Shane," Vic replied, and walked away, dialing his phone.
Shane sat with Rezian when his phone rang. It was Mara. Shane's call waiting beeped but Rezian didn't let him answer. He tossed the phone to one of Rezian's men and we next saw Vic getting Shane's voicemail greeting. Vic, in the car with Julien and Ronnie, tried to get them to go look for Shane in Little Armenia without arousing suspicion from Julien. Ronnie wasn't cooperating.
Rezian grew impatient and Shane assured him that the deal was solid. Then Shane stepped outside to "take a look around." What he saw were a couple of guys lurking around Rezian's warehouse, sneaking up to ambush the place. Shane hid outside and watched as Rezian and his men were executed. He tried to fire his gun, but there were no bullets in it. He hid and the Mexican shooters heard something and walked his direction but didn't seem to find him.
Back in the car, Vic was frustrated that Shane wasn't answering his phone. A "shots fired" call came over the radio with an address that Ronnie recognized as being near the Armenian junkyard. Ronnie looked mildly satisfied. Vic looked worried.
Vic, Ronnie and Julien showed up and saw the bodies at the scene and Vic looked around for Shane but didn't find him. He dialed again and heard Shane's phone ringing as Shane walked up. Shane said he ran late because he got tied up with paperwork and Vic told Shane he tried to call him. There was no money to be found, but the Armenian problem was solved, Shane said. And added, to Vic, "At least your family is safe." Vic and Ronnie watched a shaken Shane walk away.
Tina brought in a victim of the naked guy, a girl who showed no physical damage and said she had a run-in with a naked guy after she fell outside of a bar. She said he didn't try to attack her, he just stood over her and gave her "the creeps." Wyms went to find the naked guy and the interrogation room door was jammed shut. When they opened it, she and Dutch found the naked guy dead in a pool of his own blood.
Vic went to Corinne's house to tell her she was safe now. "It's all over," he told her. Dutch was down about the naked guy killing himself, and on top of not being able to connect with the teenager, Lloyd, from previous weeks, he was afraid he wasn't doing his job well. Dutch told Billings that he did his best work when Claudette was his partner because she challenged Dutch's assumptions and made him prove his theories. Billings, with his nonchalant attitude and concern over his disability lawsuit against the city, wasn't helping Dutch. "For better or worse, you're my partner now," Dutch said. "And I need the help. OK?"
Shane went home and told Mara he'd been looking for a place to hide $100,000 where Vic wouldn't find it. He called the money a "consolation prize." "Vic and Ronnie tried to kill me tonight," he told her. "They set me up. It's sheer luck I'm even alive right now. And, you know, the worst part is ... they think I'm too stupid to even realize it."
