Lieutenant Jones would go on to be transferred to the 508th, and a year later to the 970th C.I.C. attachment as a field commander. He was injured in a jeep wreck in Heidelberg Germany and although he recovered from the wreck, he would later die from complications due to surgery. He died on July 21, 1947 at the age of 23.
In a reflection of the situation his character faces, Colin Hanks was met with some indifference by the existing cast members who suspected that nepotism got him the role. (His father, Tom Hanks, was one of the producers on the series.) The younger Hanks soon won the cast round with his dedication to his performance.
Malarkey was in the script to go on the eponymous "The Last Patrol" but the real one insisted that he wasn't on it.
This was the final episode to be shot.
At the end of the episode, as Easy Company is leaving Haguenau, Pvt. Cobb is seen in a jeep with some MPs (Military Police). While the full events are never shown in the episode, Cobb was facing a court martial after assaulting his commanding officer Lt. Jack Foley while intoxicated. In real life, following the patrol, Cobb got drunk off schnapps after killing the wounded German prisoner the patrol was unable to transport back to their side of the river. This somewhat coincides with the events of the episode, which shows Cobb getting intoxicated and verbally harassing fellow soldiers, although it does not show him assaulting any officer.
