The Electric Man
claudio_carvalho10 August 2016
The worker Joseph Meegar delivers a package to the receptionist Bethany and they take the elevator together with seven other passengers. However there is a power surge, the elevator crashes on the well and only Meegar survives. Agent Dunham is assigned to investigate the accident and why the brakes have not hold the elevator. Dr. Bishop recalls experiments altering the human energy and they suspect that Dr. Jacob Fischer might be the responsible. Meanwhile Agent Dunham continues to see John Scott and Dr. Fischer abducts Meegar, who was his activated guinea pig for the experiment. Soon the FBI identifies Meegar as the man that caused the deaths and Dr. Bishop also finds a means to track him down. Will they succeed to find the "electric man"?

"Power Hungry" is the fifth episode of "Fringe" with a reasonable story that recalls "X-Files". The great mystery is why Olivia continues to see and interact with her former partner and lover John Scott. And nothing else. My vote is seven.

Could Have Been Better
purrlgurrl21 December 2008
This is not the strongest episode or fleshed out guest role. And it's really too bad because Ebon Moss-Bachrach has a screen presence that's always slightly off-center, and that's perfect for this series. He could have handled a more complex and substantial role than Meegar.

The series is in its freshman year and, although it's hitting the marks more often than not, it doesn't seem to have quite settled into a consistent tone, as evidenced by this episode. Here's hoping that next season they've got a clearer sense of what's working. Its occasional missteps aside, I'm a big fan and hope Fringe stays around for a long while.

One of the best of this season

Warning: Spoilers
Yet another rogue scientist is using test subjects for his experiment of having electricity conducted in the human's body. On of hi test subjects, unaware of it, is in a slump and one morning causes an elevator to break killing everyone, including his crush, with him as the only survivor. He make s run for it and heads back to work, where he is fired, and by accident his newly discovered power takes off the arm of his jerk of a boss. Much later on his power and anger causes his house to fire up and kill his own mother through her pacemaker. HE's now on the run and is in such desperate needs, he's captured by the mad doctor's men and is taken back to the lab for more testing. And naturally the Fringe team is on it but in the case of Olivia she learns more of her lost lover John and why she's seeing him-It all dates back to the pilot where Dr. Bishop experimented on them both. Now a part of John's brain exists in her own.

This was a good episode, well written and added more of a relationship between Dr. Bishop and Agent Astrid. That and go into the psychology of Olivia.

Overall one of the best of this season.

Warning: Spoilers
The man didn't know his powers about his super strong electromagnetic field. He killed the people in the elevator, injured his boss and killed his mother. He acquired this power in a test conducted by a demented scientist. Walter spotted where they were keeping him by using the pigeons in a Tesla bobbin. He taught the birds the electromagnetic field of the man and he retrieved that electromagnetic pattern from a cassette tape the man had. And then they found him and the happy ending. Also Olivia is seeing visions of John. He led her to his lair where he did his own investigation. Their subconscious are in contact since she got into the tank and they keep the man alive to learn from him.

Just Can't Fight That Fring-ing Anymore...
XweAponX12 February 2012
I just love REO SpeadDealer, er, Wagon.

Here we meet the ultimate Geek: Joseph Meegar (Ebon Moss-Bachrach) - Interesting name, I've traced "Meegar" as either a cat-like Alien Species, or, a Rapper produced by SAN. Sounds pretty Meegar to me! Meegar is your typical Geek - He wants to ask a woman, "Bethany" (Diane Davis) out on a date, but he's too chicken. I know ALL about that. To boost his confidence, Meegar responds to an Ad in a Magazine offering to help him "Unlock his Hidden Potential". But his visits to this clinic empower him with more of an Electric Personality than he had hoped for.

This is the first time we meet another Cortexiphan Kid. We don't know this yet, as in the Fringe TimeLine, Cortexiphan had not been introduced into the story. But it is the first time, we hear the phrase "You were made Special" - Joseph was made "Special" by Dr Jacob Fischer (Max Baker) and his visit to Jacob's Clinic DID unlock some hidden potential.

But Meegar is hurting people around him, people he cares about. He does not want to, but he cannot control the "Potential" he was given.

In the race to find Meegar, Jacobs finds him first, but even Jacobs didn't know what he had unleashed- But he finds out, if it's the last thing he ever does.

Olivia as well has had some inner potential unlocked, and we get to see the after-effects of her visit into Walter's Sensory Deprivation Tank first-Hand.

All in All, a fairly "Shocking" Fringe Ep- Worth buying the DVD or Blu Ray set just to revisit.

Electro-Man
Hitchcoc24 October 2023
Here we have another poor soul, who finds that he is killing people at an alarming rate. He is sort of loser who answered an ad about gaining confidence when, in reality, he was injected with a substance that made it possible for hm to disrupt electronic objects, including elevators, pacemakers, etc. Not only disrupt but cause huge surges to fuse the objects. This one goes a little beyond the pale. Good old John keeps reappearing to Dunham with information, even though he is ghost. Not quite up to the previous episodes but still interesting. Is this all going to be tied together at some point? At this point, it's hard to see.

Please guys stop comparing "Fringe" to "X files" Yes there is supernatural events but thats it guys, The X files is far better in everything , acting writting directing, so stop comparing two shows just because there is a bit of Supernatural in it.
