This nifty little doc is featured as a snazzy bonus on the 20th Anniversary DVD of "Child's Play." The folks interviewed in this documentary are producer David Kirscher, screenwriters John Lafia and Don Mancini, special effects artist Kevin Yagher, and cast members Brad Dourif, Catherine Hicks, Chris Sarandon, and Alex Vincent. Among the topics discussed are how the movie was originally intended as a dark satirical look at children's marketing, the first draft of the script called "Blood Buddy" (the doll was actually a supernatural manifestation of kid main character's evil id impulses in this particular script), Sarandon spent some time hanging out with the Chicago cops to research his police detective role, Hicks played her first mother part in this picture and met her future husband Yagher while acting in the flick, Vincent had trouble saying the word "bitch" for his audition as Andy and admits her was never afraid of Chucky while acting in the movie, an alternate version of the film which had Chucky talking in a wispier female voice, the exhausting process of working with the Chucky doll, how the picture shrewdly exploited the basic childhood nightmare of a beloved toy coming to murderous life, and Chucky being embraced as a bona-fide horror cinema icon after the film became a huge hit at the box office. Moreover, there's also vintage VHS footage of the rehearsals and, of course, choice clips from the picture. Recommended viewing for fans of the movie.

As you can see, we've got an archival interview with the director, the original screenwriter, the man who helped with a re-write as well as cast members and people who worked on the special effects so this is a very well detailed documentary. The most fascinating aspect is early on when we hear from the writers and especially Mancini who discusses his original screenplay and how different it was from what made it to the screen. Another interesting aspect deals with working with the mechanical Chucky and the various things that had to be done in order to make it look real.
