worth watching

Warning: Spoilers
Like the title suggest, this little motion-comic is basically a retelling of first scenes of the second live-action Hellboy film (Which I liked a lot)

While the result isn't as great as the other works directed by Brooke Burgess (Particularly his great web series, "Broken Saints") or visually impressive as the animation sequence included at the beginning of "Hellboy II: The Golden Army", I consider this "Prologue" to be a reasonably well made motion-comic, well narrated, with very good art and a great atmosphere.

A worth-watching addition to the "Hellboy" franchise.

Just an animated version of the prologue you see at the start of Hellboy 2. Warning: Spoilers
Not much worth saying, really, it's just pretty much a scene-for-scene animation of what you see at the start of the movie. Very similar to, but not as good as the animated epilogue of Hb 2. I don't know if they ever intended to use this in the actual film, but if so, then they definitely made the right decision in not choosing it. Stuff like this is fun to watch as an extra on a DVD, but in an actual movie at the cinema? No way, just wouldn't fly with an audience. I think the animated part of the prologue in the movie, the "fairytale" that Professor Broom tells the boy version of Hellboy, is far more visually impressive and interesting then this. So yeah, this is good, but nothing new. I would say to only watch if you would like to see something similar to the comic book style of the epilogue. Good day.

Okay for fans of the movies

Warning: Spoilers
"Hellboy II: The Golden Army - Prologue" is a 6-minute animated short from 7 years ago and as the title states it's an introduction to Guillermo del Toro's second Hellboy movie. I really like both films, especially the second, so I was quite curious about this short film. And all in all, I was not disappointed, especially with the ending that shows us Hellboy as a young boy actually. Everything else is really only about the Golden Army and not about Hellboy, so we are listening to the story just like he does. People who like the Hellboy films as much as I do will maybe enjoy this short film. Still, it wasn't a great watch by any means. One thing I like about the movies is the humor. This is missing completely in here and also the animation style is not exactly my preferred choice. This is just personal preference though. All in all, it is not a bad watch and I recommend.

Hellboy II The Golden Army - Prologue: DVD Filler
Platypuschow3 July 2018
I'm not a Hellboy fan, I've never considered the stuff to be poor but simply underwhelming Hollywood tosh.

This prologue animated short feels like (And likely was) simply a bonus feature on the DVD for Hellboy II: The Golden Army.

The animation is mediocre, the narration and voice actors sound bored and the whole thing left me questioning why it even exists.

I'd say this is for hardcore Hellboy fans and absolutely nobody else.

The Good:

Harmless companion to the film

The Bad:

Pointless

Things I Learnt From This Short:

That such things simply aren't needed
