Up, Up, and Away! Truth, Justice, and The American Way. These immediately cause comic fans to conjure up one specific character, The Big Blue Boy Scout. Superman. Heralded as the one that started the superhero boom in comics way back in 1938, there have been a lot of live-action versions over the years. Last year’s Flash movie highlighted some of the more popular ones and even one that had never actually been put on film. With James Gunn taking over the Dcu and using a new Superman film as the starting line, what can we expect from the upcoming film?

‘Green Border’ Trailer: Agnieszka Holland’s Urgent New European Refugee Crisis Drama Arrives in June
Polish filmmaker Agnieszka Holland is one of the greats. A three-time Academy Award nominee—1990’s “Europa Europa,” 1993’s “Angry Harvest” and the Holocaust drama “In Darkness”— Holland is also known for her celebrated prestige TV work, particularly on the David Simon series’ “The Wire,” and “Treme” and shows like “The Killing,” and “House Of Cards.” But her best-known feature work has always leaned towards social justice and socially-conscious dramas, which brings us to her latest, “Green Border,” an bracing portrait of Europe’s refugee crisis that has been hailed as a “humanitarian masterpiece.”

Sue Naegle and Ali Krug are re-teaming for a new venture.
The former Annapurna duo and longtime collaborators have launched Dinner Party Productions and signed a multiple-year overall deal with Universal Content Productions.
Naegle, the former content chief at Megan Ellison’s company, and Krug, who was co-head of TV alongside her at Annapurna, will develop and produce new projects for UCP for both NBCUniversal-owned platforms as well as third-party buyers.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Naegle and Krug — who have worked together for 13 years — said the appeal of being able to sell to outside buyers was part of why they wanted to sign with the Beatrice Springborn-led division that is housed within Pearlena Igbokwe’s Universal Studio Group. (Read the Q&a, below.)
As part of the pact, Naegle and Krug have boarded Peacock’s adaptation of Elin Hilderbrand’s New York Times best-seller The Five-Star Weekend.

Sue Naegle and Ali Krug are in business with Universal Studio Group’s UCP.
The Emmy-winning pair has signed an overall deal with the Universal division through which their newly established Dinner Party Productions will develop and produce series.
This marks the first time former UTA, HBO Entertainment and Annapurna Pictures boss Naegle has worked directly with Universal. She exited her Chief Content Officer role at Annapurna in 2022. As we reported at the time, Krug had initially taken over her TV division responsibilities, but has since reunited with her former boss and long-time production partner to launch Dinner Party.
In development is a series adaptation of Elon Hilderbrand’s novel ‘The Five-Star Weekend’ for Universal’s sister streamer Peacock, with Bekah Brunstetter penning the script. The book follows a popular food blogger, who, after a tragedy, brings friends from distinct times in her life to spend a weekend in Nantucket.

David Simon is developing a new series at HBO, Variety has learned exclusively.
Simon is attached to write and executive produce the drama project, currently titled “The System.” Lily Thorne and Larissa MacFarquhar will also write and co-executive produce, with Kiese Laymon also attached to write.
The project is based on a series of New Yorker articles written by MacFarquhar. The official description states that the show “will examine the foster care and child protective service systems from the viewpoint of family court judges and lawyers, as well as social workers, caretakers, mothers, and the children themselves, and will probe the risks and benefits of removing children from families of origin.”
Should the project move forward, it would be Simon’s ninth HBO series. He is perhaps best known for his work on the critically-acclaimed series “The Wire,” which aired for five seasons at the premium cabler. He most recently...

It’s hard to explain exactly what inspired this list. Maybe we just wanted to rave some more about Pixar. Maybe watching Avatar again and the new sequel Avatar: The Way of Water boggled our minds. Whatever it was, it’s done, and we can’t take it back (the delete key is broken). It is kind of strange that there are so many blue movie characters. If we wanted to do, say, Best Red Characters in Movies, it would just be five pictures of Hellboy and five pictures of Darth Maul. Travel below to see our picks for the very best blue characters in movie history!

"The Walking Dead" is the cable franchise that just won't die. The saga that began in 2010 (or 2003 if you count the comic books that spawned it) has so far led to not one or two but six different spin-offs set within the same universe, a number that would be jaw-dropping even if AMC wasn't one of many media companies signing off on large-scale layoffs in recent years. At any rate, the latest spin-off is by far the most narratively promising, as it's set to answer burning questions fans (even those who quit watching ages ago) have about the show's most-loved couple.
That's right, folks: "The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live" is finally going to tell us whether or not Richonne is endgame. The couple comprised of original series protagonist Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) and his super capable second-in-command turned bestie turned lover Michonne (Danai Gurira) got separated way back...

After a decorated career in television, The Family Plan director Simon Cellan Jones has returned to feature films for the first time in two-plus decades.
Cellan Jones’ feature career began with 2000’s Some Voices, a British drama starring a still-emerging Daniel Craig, and he soon followed that up with 2002’s The One and Only, before spending two decades in television, helming episodes of How to Make It in America, Treme, Jessica Jones, Boardwalk Empire, Ballers and Shooter. Four of the aforementioned shows were executive produced by Mark Wahlberg, and when the actor needed a filmmaker to direct March 2024’s Arthur the King during the pandemic, he gave Cellan Jones a second go-round in the feature space. The shoot went well, so well that after Cellan Jones locked picture, he quickly started prepping their current Apple TV+ release, The Family Plan.

As the WGA strike entered its fourth week, Tony Kushner swore, Steve Earle sang, Wanda Sykes led union chants and Busy Philipps told CEO jokes for more than 1,000 demonstrators and hundreds of onlookers who filled the street in front of NBCUniversal headquarters Tuesday in Midtown Manhattan.
With a starry speakers list, celebrities dotting the crowd and turnout from several local labor unions, a “Rally at the Rock” outside 30 Rockefeller Plaza in support of striking movie and television writers filled one barricaded side of West 49th Street between 5th and 6th avenues — the equivalent of three city blocks — with cheering, sign-waving protestors who stayed for more than two hours. It was the largest turnout for any event organized by members of the Writers Guild of America East since the strike against film and television producers began May 2, a WGA representative told Deadline.

Rolling off a successful collaboration on “Charlatan,” Films Boutique has boarded Agnieszka Holland’s next film “The Green Border,” which just completed principal photography in Poland.
Now in post production, “The Green Border” tells the fateful story of a family of Syrian refugees, a solitary English teacher from Afghanistan and a young border guard, all of whom meet on the Polish-Belarusian border during the most recent humanitarian crisis triggered by President Lukaschenko opening doors to migrants in Belarus as a back door to enter the EU.
The screenplay, penned by Holland, Gabriela Łazarkiewicz-Sieczko and Maciej Pisuk, is inspired by real events. Research for the film included hundreds of hours of document analysis, interviews with refugees, border guards, borderland residents, activists and experts.

Loyalty and quality of work mean nothing to corporations when weighed against maintaining their profit and power, and HBO proved this true once again by suspending their deal with "The Wire" creator David Simon. The news broke via Simon himself, who shared it on Twitter and noted (with video evidence) that when he received the news, he was doing the "write thing" — walking a picket line with his fellow Writers Guild of America (WGA) members.
In case you doubted whether these two events were connected, Simon clarified in a subsequent tweet that the suspension was a "Strike response and not unexpected." Simon is outspoken about his beliefs and (liberal) politics, so his supporting the strike with such fervor is no surprise.

David Simon tweeted from a WGA strike picket line on Monday that his deal with HBO has been suspended after 25 years with the cable channel. Simon is behind such prestige HBO TV as “The Wire,” “We Own this City” and “Treme,” and won two Emmys for his series “The Corner.”
“On the day that HBO called to suspend my deal after 25 years of writing television for them, I was doing the write thing,” he wrote in a caption to a video of writers chanting, “No contract, no peace.” Simon is not seen in the video he apparently shot himself.
According to an individual familiar with the situation at HBO, some suspensions have been made by phone call, but that letters to that effect have not yet been sent.

Though it took almost 10 years for her acting career to take off, actor Hong Chau has notable film credits that include "Inherent Vice," "Downsizing," and "Treme."
