A.R.O.G is the second movie of the successful Turkish comedy G.O.R.A. Director, writer and actor Cem Yilmaz created an excellent movie again. Movie's universal language easily caught all the watchers wherever he/she is from. A.R.O.G. is an successful example of modern Turkish comedy. A.R.O.G. is about a tricky Turkish man (Arif) that goes back in time for a million years and there he met with the Stone age people. Also Arif is a very caricature character it is really funny and feels real most of the movie. A.R.O.G is not a ZAZ kind of movie but we can find lots of movie references to Space Oddsey 2001, Apocalyptica, Jurrasic Park or Time Machine
Like Stephen Chow made for Shaolin Soccer and Kung Fu Street, Cem Yilmaz made the same affect in Turkish cinema in G.O.R.A and A.R.O.G, not same success in special effects but seems satisfying and good enough. Definitely as a Stone Age thematic movie, it is far better then the RRRrrr!!! (it was a big disappointment

Cem Yilmaz doesn't do the job this time

First of all I'am a huge fan of cem yilmaz, I adored his stand-up shows and the movies he played in. The first movie he made himself was G.O.R.A. He did play in it, write it and did the directing with Ömer Faruk Sorak(Vizontele). The movie was about Turks in space, it was a very good movie, the jokes were hilarious and I gave it a 10. Now he made the sequel A.G.O.R. with another director Ali Taner Baltaci which was a co-assistant at vizontele. The sequel is this time about Turks in the pre-historic time. The movie wasn't what I expacted at all. The effect were lots of better than the first part, but the movie was boring and the jokes weren't funny expact 2 or 3 jokes. I really wonder why this movie was so bad was it because of Ali Taner Baltaci? or is Cem Yilmaz not so funny as he supposed to be?

G.o.r.a. Was a film that wrote the history of Turkish cinema. The jokes it contained deeply affected daily life and became a part of slang at the time it was released. On top of that, Cem Yilmaz was the king of Turkish stand-up. He was never dethroned, and someone who left such a mark on the era has never come again. Of course, the expectations for the comedy part of a.r.o.g have gone beyond the height of Everest and into space. In addition, g.o.r.a was perhaps the only example of its kind in that it was a satirical sci-fi parody of another famous satirical sci-fi movie.
Afterwards, a.r.o.g came as a sequel. Although the film's humor were perhaps a above average, it was never like it could exist in the shadow of its predecessor. Being a victim of your own success, really. When it is next to a giant, what could have been a sweet, enjoyable movie on its own, became a dwarf.

Cem Yilmaz, who is the funniest man of Turkiye, has broke another record with this film (with its hilarious and creative scenes of course). Unfortunately, for non-Turkish ppl, like most (even all) of Turkish films, many humours in these scenes were lost, since mostly attributions are about a life of a very classical and easterner Turkish person and his comments about Turkish social, political and cultural life. You will also childish joke scenes which I also didn't enjoy, too. I don't know, but, this must be his way of filming, on the contrary, his shows never make concessions about quality.
Another subject is don't expect a great visual scenes, as this is not a Hollywood film which one of the richest governments in the world supports financially, on the other hand, this is just a Turkish film (not the best one) which a company accepted to be the sponsor of limitedly.
Nevertheless, don't get disappointed yet. The film is more than 2 hours and each 5 minutes include at least one thing to laugh(for all). Well, this is no different indeed for non-Turkish speakers to watch this film or for me to watch "how i met your mother" episodes. I find "how i met your mother" as the funniest show ever, but, sometimes there are a few jokes American-ish. So I think it will mostly make you laugh, while it is important to watch it with a valid subtitle to understand every single joke, as this movie was filmed mostly to make people laugh.
Such a very small explanation for non-Turkish speakers; Ridvan Dilmen is a commentator (and an old footballer) who seems in late minutes in the film. In Turkish matches, whenever he says "it's a goal", well, there the shot then and it is. (damn! he is like a seer!) Well, he was not really the person who we expect to see in that scene all of a sudden.

Clever link to our world. Key civilization points to mention. But i should say that this movie is for Turkish People. Only people who know Turkish culture and lifestyle can understand many parts of the film... Cem YILMAZ is really good at stand-ups. But cinema world is different. Some can except the same style here. This is a movie which has a theme and an event flow. Satiristic pieces must have their own suitable places in it otherwise it goes bad. In my opinion the movie is good. maybe not extraordinary successful but still very nice to watch. When i started to watch it i was caught by it to the end. Indeed i waited a better final which i couldn't find. It seemed to me a part of series...

This movie is a masterpiece from the most comic comedian of Turkey.I want congratulate Cem Yılmaz because of this movie.The movie is about a man named with Arif.Arif is a characteristic guy.He has been going to past times with using a time machine.He became friend with somebody on the past and he started to teach them modern things.He made the first football match,making graffiti to caves.At the end he came back to normal time.It is a nice science fiction comedy.Maybe ı watched it for two times.In Turkey this film cutted records.I think you shopuld watch it if you want to laugh.I made this rewiev with my friend Deniz.Thank you for reading.

A Fantastic comedy film especially for Turkish audience.It contains jokes that only Turkish people can understand. There are a lot of specific jokes which is only funny for Turkish people Not a good film for the people who doesn't know Turkish people,life, news, adverts and that. Not better than G.O.R.A. but it is still very good. Some people say that it has a weak structure. But who cares? It makes you laugh and this is the point. I think it could be better but i cant say that it is a disappointment. Visual effects are excellent if we compare it with another Turkish movie. I recommend that every Cem Yilmaz fan must see this movie.
You made money..now make something valuable..

I don't understand why Cem Yilmaz insists so much in making movies. He is a very funny man. He is extremely successful in his stand up shows. He can entertain thousands when he is on the stage with his black shirt and trousers. With minimum investment, no decor, no make up, he generates maximum return in his shows. But when it comes to cinema I think he does not take his business as serious as it should be. It is as if he finds the jokes and starts the movie without any fundamental preparation. He needs professional help in creating a good story, writing a satisfactory script, finding a reasonable team of actors, needs a good cinematographer, editor and director. We expect really good movies from him as he has talent to contribute to a good movie. But he can not do everything by himself, this would be an insult to cinema. If he thinks that he will be successful in cinema so easily I think he is wrong.

I don't know how many times I watched this movie, but I still watch it without getting bored, even in 2023. Cem Yilmaz brings us to 1 million years back in time when the world is hosting many different species like dinosaurs, wild birds, huge bees. It is ' the stone age' and there are two distinct small tribes. While one of them is trying to improve civilization with new inventions, the other one is completely against any improvement and dominating the others with their power. Arif (Cem Yilmaz) is a time traveller who is sent back to this time by his enemy from the first movie. I know, it sounds so classic until now, but it is a parody and all the fun starts at this point. Arif, who is a Turkish comedy hero, deals with the situation in his own unique way again...
The chemistry between the characters is so strong. The script-writing is just brilliant. Music, dressing, make-up are good enough for a parody and it felt at some points as if you were living at that age. All the animals are portrayed in a very nice way. I liked seeing these cute baby dinosaurs :) Starting and the ending are the most powerful parts of the movie so once you start you easily continue and once it ends you don't feel any regret for the time you spent. I just broke one point because there are some redundant parts in the movie. In the end, I can say that this production is unique and everything in this movie is just brilliant! Thank you for this masterpiece.

A.R.O.G is the sequel to G.O.R.A (2004) a Turkish mega budget sci-fi comedy and follows on from it really quite well.
Our hero Arif is back safe and sound at home with his cosmic love Ceku, but Logar isn't done with him and he finds himself sent back in time one million years!
Considering that G.O.R.A was Turkey's biggest movie to date and the amount of time and effort that went into it I wasn't impressed at all. I found it to be an unfunny two hours of silliness and campness, so I expected the absolute pits from A.R.O.G.
To my surprise it is better, but not by much. Unlike the first it has lost most of the campness and more jokes hit the mark.
The first movie was a standard sci-fi affair, all set in space with the usual tropes so writing A.R.O.G in this way was a huge gamble. This is barely sci-fi, the majority of the movie is set in the stone age so it's a very different creature altogether (And personally that suited me better).
Sure it's still silly and most of the jokes are terrible but I found myself cringing considerably less so that's something, right?
With most of the original cast, following on directly from the previous movie and the same "Charm" I'd say despite my low rating this is an accomplishment. I'm not the demographic, but I do see the appeal.

Cem Yilmaz did it again. A film that would be another blockbuster but has nothing to do with cinema. This movie could be funny for only a limited group of audience who should first be Turkish and secondly be around the same age with Cem Yilmaz. There are good jokes for those people but the structure and pace are not satisfactory. Script for other characters than CY is awful. He deliberately under weighs other characters and pampers his ego like he did in each and every movie he made. Acting is poor by most of the characters. References to other movies are as stale and at the level of Scary Movie series. After three attempts(Gora, Hokkabaz and Arog) unfortunately no progress for CY.
Cem Yilmaz is financing his future good movie with a bad one again.

Cem Yilmaz is a talented comedian and a good filmmaker. He is also a good businessman. He makes two kinds of movies: Good ones, and bad ones to finance the good ones.
A.R.O.G. is a bad one. Much like its predecessor, G.O.R.A., it uses the decades-old parody styles of Mel Brooks and Zucker-Abrams-Zucker. With such movies, Cem Yilmaz captures larger, easily-satisfied crowds - swindle them out of their money (they would eventually spend that excess money on some other crap they won't need anyways), and put those resources into good use: making a real good movie such as 'Hokkabaz' or 'Hersey Cok Guzel Olacak'...
Although I was one of the suckers who paid a few bucks for this no-good, boring, longer-than-necessary, unoriginal, extravagantly expensive eye- candy - I do not feel too bad with the hope that Cem Yilmaz will make a movie worth praise in a couple years from now, and I will feel somewhat proud to be one of the millions of producers of that flick.
So, to summarize: If you are tired of dragging that thick wallet of yours and looking for a place to spend money just for fun... Just go give the money directly to Cem Yilmaz and do not watch the movie anyways. There are many attractions that are cheaper and more fun... Say, stay home tonight, clip your nails... give yourself electric shocks, or something... whatever.

When I watched this movie I was expecting a lot because of GORA. This movie is a totally waste of time. The cast was really poor and yet again Cem Yilmaz was playing in several characters. The story line was really poor acting was really poor. Only positive thing about this movie is the environment and the dresses. I really don't know the idea behind this movie i think the movie could be improved so much if Cem Yilmaz spent a bit more money. Turkish movie sector is improving but these kinds of movie is letting the whole movie sector down. I really think Cem Yilmaz should stick with his stand up job even he broke record with his previous GORA movie.

I was expecting something better from Cem Yilmaz, but unfortunately I was disappointed. Many people said it's funny. However it was one of the worst movies I've ever seen. Most of the jokes were not funny, the script was carelessly done. I was bored and hardly waited until the end. Cem Yilmaz is very successful in stand up shows, but I cannot see the same sense of humor in his movies. The football game part was very long and boring. It could have been a good movie if there was a good story and funny jokes, but it lacks sense of humor. If you're planning to see this movie, I suggest you better do something else instead. Because this movie is totally waste of time.

Arog is by far the worst movie that Cem Yilmaz has ever made. He used a simple plot, amateur actors like in all his other movies. But unlike others, he could not get a warm, entertaining movie. There were not big laughs in any of the jokes which were mostly about Turkish idioms. The plot was boring, I counted minutes towards the end. Lot's of money spent and they used the technology right. However, if the story is bad and the jokes are bad, this cannot help the movie out.
I feel that Cem is not very funny any more. He should spend more time to find jokes and construct a movie. Writing a script in a short time is not working out for him any more.

Turkish comedian Cem Yılmaz ("Hokkabaz" & "Organize İsler") and co-director Ali Taner Baltaci ("Hokkabaz" & "Tek Kisilik Dev Kadro") re-unite for this big-budget sequel to big-budget-blockbuster "G.O.R.A." which became another record-breaking Turkish box office hit.
Turkish carpet salesman and intergalactic saviour Arif (Cem Yılmaz) is re-abducted by the evil Commander Logar (Cem Yılmaz) and taken to 1,000,000 B.C. where he teams up with Dimi (Özkan Uğur) to rescue Mimi (Nil Karaibrahimgil) and the Arog in an uninspired comedy set-up.
Cem Yılmaz recreates his rather insipid performance as the stereotypical Turkish every-man Arif but this time with little relief from superior alter-ego Commander Logar while solid support comes once again from the likes of Özkan Ugur, Özge Özberk and pop diva Nil Karaibrahimgil.
The film-makers' have put together a more polished production with a convincingly realised caveman movie pastiche that acts as a magnificent backdrop for a slightly superior series of parodies and gags that are let down by a trite football showdown finale.

Cem Yilmaz, the ex-standup comedian has made quite nice movies such as G.O.R.A, the Magician, Everything is Going to Be Great. I was one of the followers of his movies as well. However, A.R.O.G really puts his level of quality so much down on the ground - if not underground. For starters, the idea/plot is actual "inspired" from the French comedy "RRRrrrr!!!" which is really a bad movie, A.R.O.G competes with it and surpasses "RRRrrrr" negatively in many ways. Unfortunately, Cem Yilmaz's movies turn out to be parts of his stand-up show which are pasted into his movies lately. The screenplay is non-coherent, the characters except himself has not too much to say and the jokes are becoming more and more ordinary. I have seen the movie on a special movie day, paid around $3 for it. After the movie, my feelings were that I was swindled. Not only for the low price and the time spent. I wouldn't see it again if I was paid for it. Do yourself a favor and be aware of this movie.
