Warning: Spoilers
The Jetsons have returned after a two decade hiatus. They've been living in the realm of reruns for the '60s and '70s and now they're back! Picking up where they never left off, we see Elroy's class on a field trip to a remote asteroid in the middle of nowhere. As the robotic teacher, Miss Brainmocker proceeds to gather up all the students to return to earth, Elroy is caught in the middle of collecting rocks and when he has his back turned, a rock just happens to jump in his bag by itself...huh? Well once he is returned home, Elroy is sent off to bed, even though it's still daytime as the view out the windows clearly indicates, and yet when Jane is tucking him in, it's nighttime. How time flies! So while Elroy and Astro snooze, the rock that moves by itself sprouts springy legs and hangs from the ceiling. But as it turns out, this is no ordinary rock. It's not even a rock, it's an egg, and from that egg, a strange creature did hatch. A small, furry white and purple creature with springy legs and suction cup feet. He introduces himself as Orbitty. Name and species, so he's...Orbitty the Orbitty? Okay. Well, Orbitty moves right in and invades Astro's personal space, grabbing all the family's attention away from him. It wasn't such a warm welcome, for when George notices his auto-groomer is on the fritz, he immediately blames Elroy. But suddenly they all get a glimpse of Orbitty, causing them to simultaneously freak out. George, Jane, Judy, Rosie and Astro jump atop a glass table to hide while Elroy introduces them to his new friend.

So once the table collapses and the family recovers from their fall, they learn that Orbitty is in fact very handy at fixing things too. He repairs George's groomer, Judy's hair-styler, and their holographic TV so the soap opera starlets can no longer flirt with the World Series ballplayers. Yeah, everybody in the family is enjoying Orbitty's company...except Astro. The poor dog starts to feel left out. It doesn't help matters when the little alien springs down to eat up Astro's dog chow so when Elroy comes to bring him table scraps, assumes the dog ate all his chow and gives the scraps to Orbitty. What a raw deal! Deciding he can take no more, Astro removes his collar and bids the Jetsons a silent farewell...yes, real smart move taking off your collar, Astro, because it lands him in the glass bubble of a diabolical dog catcher. Well, back home, Elroy finally notices Astro is gone and wants to go out looking for him, so under the cover of darkness, he and Orbitty, who has a sense apparently, set out to find him. They locate Astro in the pound. Elroy apologizes for neglecting him and Orbitty wants to make a truce. Suddenly, that dastardly dog catcher spots them in the act and the three book it. He gives chase, but they manage to trap him in his own net and make it home. Well, what will Elroy's parents have to say about this sneaking out of the house at night business? Judy begins by giving Elroy the heads-up: "boy are you gonna get it." Thanks, Judy. George and Jane both say they should be angry with the boy, but choose not to because he did a good deed. So it works out. Orbitty and Astro learn to co-exist and become good friends, and it look as though the little guy is here to stay...until Season 3, for some reason.

And that's "Elroy Meets Orbitty". A good episode with many memorable moments. Now one thing I didn't like was that dream machine of Elroy's. Jane asks him what he'd like to dream about and she presses the corresponding button. I guess I don't approve of a machine that dreams for you. Plus, how can you sleep with that damn thing talking all the while? But anyway, I consider Orbitty a nice little addition to the show and only wish he'd been in more episodes, and like I said, they seem to drop him in the third season. So enjoy him as much as you can!
