The Jetsons are having financial troubles...again. George reviews the family budget, but can make neither heads nor tails. Astro and Orbitty fight over the last side of beef, and Elroy and Judy decide this was a perfect time to bug their parents over their own needs and wants. Judy wants a new prom dress and a boatload of accessories. Elroy wants to go to space-ball camp. George allows them to buy what they want and that they would make up the money somehow. George decides that since his days are occupied by working for Spacely, his nights were totally free, so he decides to get a night job to help make ends meet. Hey, here's a nutty idea: why doesn't Jane get a job? She steals George's wallet to go shopping then sits on her butt at home and lets machines clean for her. Why not be a productive member of society like the rest of us? Anyway, George applies for a job as a cabby, but is very discreet, knowing how much Spacely hates moonlighting, which he came into George's office to make perfectly clear. He also talks him into buying two books of Venutian Sweepstakes tickets. The winner could be a millionaire. So as George prepares for his night job, they receive a call from Venus, saying they are the winners. $7.5 million, owing to Venutian money, Venuty, being worth seventy five cents on the dollar. This calls for frivolous spending and remodeling!
The next day, George walks out on Mr. Spacely as he chews him out, and then the company accountant informs him that they have financial problems of their own- the brokers of Venuty stock also has vested in Spacely Sprocket stock, and they almost own more than Mr. Spacely himself. He'd need a cool million to sink into the company to break even. But where would he get that kind of money? Who else? His closest, dearest friends who have just come into a truckload of money: The Jetsons. So, Spacely pays them an early morning visit, blames his earlier treatment of George on his non-existent twin brother and invites the family to stay at his house while they're apartment was being remodeled into a penthouse suite. Spacely decides to win the money from George, rather than flat out ask. They treat themselves to a game of golf, courtesy of Elroy's new virtual sporting machine. In short, George loses and has to pay off Spacely, who guaranteed a vice presidency. So, it looks as though George Jetson is finally going to be a vice president...until the stupid accountant comes in to inform them that Venuty stock took a nosedive and failed, so Spacely Sprockets was in the clear. Angry at George for this, Spacely activates the VP contract's escape clause and sends George back to his regular job. You know, I hate Mr. Spacely. No longer millionaires, the Jetsons return to their lavish, poverty-stricken lives, but Jane isn't down. She knows they have something no millionaire has: bags and bags of worthless Venuties.
This one is right on the money. Good story, though it seems to hit a dead end right in the middle, and I think we saw too much of Mr. Spacely. You love to hate him, really. He's the meanest boss in the universe...he AND his invisible twin, Coslo. But to all Jetsons fans, I recommend "Jetsons' Millions". It's worth its weight in comedic gold, or in this case, Venuties.
