Some men are born with greatness, and others decide to steal it....Oh by the way, if you really like George, or really hate Mr. Spacely or if Spacely vs. Cogswell episodes are not in your taste, turn back now. Just a fair warning. Anyway, when it is announced that the man among managers, the ultimate tycoon of the day is W.C. Cogswell and NOT Cosmo S. Spacely, the latter comes unglued. To make matters worse, ol' W.C. calls him up to gloat about it. Furious, Spacely decrees that effective immediately, all his employees will be working a triple shift. Never heard of it? He created it on the spot right then and there. He was determined to fight tooth and nail until he beat Cogswell and made it into the Fortuitous 5000. Well, having to work a 24 hour shift means George would not be able to help Elroy with his school project. He tried when given his 30 minute sleep-and-eat break, but it failed to fire. Back at work, when things couldn't get any more stressful, two of Spacely's human employees (that's right, he has other employees besides George, believe it or not), circulate a petition to hire more human employees to help the overwhelmed work force. When George is given the petition to sign, Spacely barges in, blames it squarely on George, and destroys the petition. To make matters even worse, Elroy calls in to bug George about his project, AND the main computer RUDI gives George an ultimatum: hire more humans and he'll shut down all the computers. Wow, what a first act!
Back at home, Jane has George model her clothes as she alters them... sheesh! Well I guess it was her turn to torture him. But why didn't she use Judy? She's standing right there! Judy's the exact same size as Jane...oh well. Not important. The girls try to convince George he's a human being with rights and he should stand up to the little slave-driver. So, George decrees he will stay home from work and help Elroy with his project...but a surprise call from Spacely completely derails that train and George has to once again disappoint his son. The coward! So at the sprocket sweat shop, the employees have decided to strike, with George trying to talk them out of it for some reason. Cogswell comes by to try and talk sense into them, telling them they're wasting their time, and he even offers George a position, but like a complete idiot he doesn't take it and instead wants to give Spacely a chance to hear their demands. Like he did the last time? So being on strike finally allowed George to get some rest, while Henry Orbit, who actually cared about helping Elroy with his project, comes by with the little machine that's been causing such a bother: Jocko, a robot athlete, complete with red hoodie. But unfortunately, Jocko has many bugs that have yet to be worked out. George finds this out the hard way when making the robot jog in place...and he collapsed into a heap of scrap. You're batting a thousand in this episode, George! But, he won't give up that easily. Elroy will enter Jocko in the Robot Olympics...no matter what. Yes, even if he has to dress up like the darn robot himself. So, while Spacely takes abuse from his machines due to his incompetency on how to operate them, George Jocko fails every Olympic event. Try as he could, George could not compete with the real robots, and worst of all, his plan of trying to make things up to Elroy failed miserably too, and now Spacely was looking for him....say, George, remember that job Cogswell offered you? But in the end, it all works out, as usual. With the big doofus stuck in the Jocko suit, Spacely used him as an example of humans and robots working together and when he returns the work hours to normal, the strike is off. Cogswell is foiled when his machines pull rank on him over hiring human employees from Spacely, and even though his project laid a goose egg, Elroy was proud of his father for stepping in to help him anyway.
This episode was indeed a strike. Again, just a standard Spacely vs. Cogswell episode with Spacely abusing Jetson in ways that would get his greedy ass sued in real life. This episode is unpleasant, unfunny, just dull, plain and stupid. Bad writing, bad concept, and no effort put into anything. It's not as bad as "The Wrong Stuff" but it ranks up there as one of the worst Jetsons episodes. Remember this is The Jetsons and NOT The Gearheads, so I wonder why so much focus was given to the Spacely and Cogswell feud. I don't really care about either character or what they do! "One Strike You're Out" sucks. Next episode, please.
