A scientific discovery gone haywire, and the Jetsons are about to find themselves housing whom they think is their distant cousin, is in fact a newly-discovered space creature. Hilarity and hijinks will ensue, people; so as we begin, we see two scientists from the Spacesonian Museum casually removing a block of ice from the frozen planet Polaris, containing a strange creature. This was just the break Dr. Input and his toady Lowbeam needed in order to be recognized as scientific pioneers. They return to earth, flying right over Casa de Jetson where George, once again, has to make a statement on how he hates modern rock and roll music, and berates Judy for playing it at maximum volume. It's a wonder she hasn't gone deaf yet. Thankfully, Jane becomes an angel of mercy and calls everybody away from the music to announce that their alien cousin Hunky was coming for a visit. George, Judy and Elroy were anything but delighted, knowing that Hunky came from a family of spaced-out lunatics. But, he's family, and he's coming whether they like it or not. So while the family prepares for a visit from Cousin Looney Toon, Professor Ozone chews out Input and Lowbeam for kidnapping an alien citizen from the wrong planet, so as the two boobs go to right their wrongs, the ice man gave them the slip (thought I was gonna make an Iceman Commeth joke? Nah, it's getting old). They chase it around Orbit City and eventually lose it. After a nice tour of the town, the ice block somehow finds its way into the Jetsons' apartment, and thanks to George's solar powered barbecue, the ice block melts and the family greets "Cousin Hunky"...who looks, and talks, remarkably like the Tazmanian Devil. But upon closer inspection, he's just a giant head with arms and legs attached. Well, a book by its cover mustn't be judged.
Despite Cousin Hunky's violent and aggressive nature, the kids think he's awesome. I think Judy wishes they weren't related (or they lived in Arkansas) so she could marry him. Only George sees a flaw in this whole fiasco, but naturally nobody listens to him. Hunky attempts to eat Orbitty (which thankfully he can't digest), and then Elroy and Judy take him to the mall for some trendy clothes, seeing as how Hunky isn't wearing any at all. So he vandalizes a Polaris Snow Cone stand and then they dress him in an embarrassing outfit, just as Input and Lowbeam finally catch up to the ice man and attempt to apprehend him, but he again gives them the slip and rides home with Elroy and Judy. The two bumbling scientists give chase. They try again to apprehend Hunky, who then tries to kill them. Seriously, he dangles them over the balcony of a building 200+ miles up and drops them...it's a good thing they're cartoon characters...and they brought parachutes just in case. On their third attempt, they accidentally rope George, who then informs them he's a Karate expert....um, since when? I'd actually like to see that. Really. But, too bad. So the cowardly scientists release George and lay out the whole spiel, and with the help of a conveniently placed news broadcast, the rest of the family FINALLY realizes the obvious: this was NOT Cousin Hunky. So, the ice creature willingly goes with Input and Lowbeam (why willingly all of a sudden? Don't forget, he tried to kill them). The family bids farewell to Cousin Hunky (he's NOT Hunky, goddammit), he goes back to Polaris to be with his family, and all is well...until the REAL Cousin Hunky shows up, and he looks like the offspring of Marilyn Manson and Yoda, and then proceeds to ROCK THE HOUSE. The building nearly fell off its stilts! Only Judy found his music any good, so I guess she really did lose her hearing after all.
What can I say about this one? It's pretty good. A fun episode with an interesting story, good plot, good animation, and great voice acting, particularly Paul Winchell as Dr. Input. A lot of great moments, as well as lines, particularly George's about being a black belt. This episode also serves as a follow-up to Season 1's "A Date With Jet Screamer", as we see Judy still digs loud, unintelligible songs and music, and George hates it with every fiber of his being. Also, maybe I'm thinking too much into this, but Judy really seemed to be in love with Cousin Hunky. She gushes and orgasms about him so much. Thank goodness it didn't have a chance to go too far. So Jetson fans, this is one to check out. Even non-fans watching for the first time should enjoy this one. Twists, turns, non-stop fun, S'no Relative is one for the ages! S'no kidding!
