This version of 'The Tone of Time' is another entry in the 'Affairs of the Heart' series, fifty minute adaptation of the stories and novels of Henry James.
A light hearted effort called 'Mary and Louisa' (after Mary Tredick, the artist, and Louisa Bridgenorth, who wants a painting of the perfect man, but without a sitter being engaged). In between, negotiating between the two women, is James Mallory (Anton Rodgers), who we have met earlier in the series, in the episode called 'Flora'.
Mary Tredick (the wonderful Pamela Brown) and Louisa Bridgenorth (the bristling Faith Brook) soon almost come to blows over the perfect face Mary has created on her canvas - that of a classical musician they had both known in Italy. But there's a twist, and an amusing one (partly because of Douglas Wilmer's appalling Italian accent).
A lightweight instalment in the series, 'Mary and Louisa' is a lot of fun, and is well worth a look if only for Ms Brown's scheming lady painter.
