For Fox, Gillian Anderson almost wasn’t foxy enough to lead “The X-Files.”
Series creator Chris Carter called out Fox executives that almost thwarted his casting of Anderson in the 1993 series. Carter told Inverse that they wondered “where’s the sex appeal?” when it came to Anderson in the role of FBI Special Agent Dana Scully. It is a bit unclear there if Carter was referring to the studio, the network, or both. She ended up testing for both.
“I wanted to take her before the studio and the network,” Carter said. “Even though Gillian’s beautiful, she wasn’t their idea of sexy. First, because they didn’t understand what I was trying to do with the show. And she was an unknown, so that never helps.”
Anderson’s “X-Files” co-star David Duchovny, who played FBI Special Agent Fox Mulder, was also a hard sell, according to Carter.

It’s been five years since “The X-Files” wrapped up its two revival seasons, with a planned animated series scrapped earlier this year. So what’s next from the world of “The X-Files”?
According to a new report from Bloomberg this week, Ryan Coogler (Black Panther) is still attached to produce a brand new version of “The X-Files,” which franchise creator Chris Carter had first teased earlier this year. The site reports, “Disney is developing a new version of The X-Files that would be produced by Ryan Coogler, the director of Black Panther and Creed.”
Carter had previously teased the new series would feature “a diverse cast.”
Stay tuned for more as we learn it.
“The X-Files” originally ran for nine seasons from September 1993 to May 2002, with tenth and eleventh seasons arriving in 2016 and 2018. In total, 218 episodes were made.

Two and a half years ago, we heard that Fox was developing an animated comedy series that would be set in the world of their popular series The X-Files, which originally ran for nine seasons, from 1993 to 2002. It was then revived for a tenth season in 2016 and an eleventh in 2018. Along the way, there were also two feature films and a short-lived spin-off called The Lone Gunmen. But now TV Line has been able to confirm that the animated comedy series, which was going to be called The X-Files: Albuquerque, is not going to happen. The project has been scrapped.
If The X-Files: Albuquerque had made it to the air, it would have introduced viewers to an office of misfit agents who investigate X-Files cases too wacky, ridiculous or downright dopey for Mulder and Scully to bother with. They’re essentially the X-Files’ B-team.

Just one week after the massive news that Ryan Coogler (Creed, Black Panther) is apparently developing a whole new take on “The X-Files,” TV Line reports that another “The X-Files” project will not be seeing the light of day. “The X-Files: Albuquerque” is reportedly no more.
Announced back in 2020, “The X-Files: Albuquerque” was set to be an animated spinoff series centered on new characters, but TV Line reports that the series has been given the axe.
“The X-Files: Albuquerque — an animated comedy spinoff of the live-action classic — is not moving forward at Fox,” TV Line confirms in their report this week.
“The X-Files” creator Chris Carter had been attached to produce the spinoff series.
TV Line had explained in 2020, “The potential series will center an office full of misfit agents who investigate X-Files cases too wacky, ridiculous or downright dopey for Mulder and Scully to bother with. They’re essentially the X-Files’ B-team.

Ryan Coogler could be exploring extraterrestrials in a possible reboot of “The X-Files.”
“Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” writer-director Coogler and his Proximity banner are teased to be helming an updated reimagining of the Fox series that aired from 1993 to 2002. David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson starred, with the franchise spurring two movies and two continuation seasons between 2016 and 2018 whose quality was controversial among fans.
Original “X-Files” series creator Chris Carter said during the “On the Coast” podcast that the rumored upcoming project will be a “remount” for the legacy series.
“I just spoke to a young man, Ryan Coogler, who is going to remount ‘The X-Files’ with a diverse cast,” Carter shared. “So he’s got his work cut out for him, because we covered so much territory.”
IndieWire has reached out to representatives for Coogler and 20th Century Television for comment. Whatever form the Cooger-led series takes will likely play on Disney-owned Hulu,...

The X-Files hasn’t aired a new episode since its 11th season in 2018, but according to creator Chris Carter, there could be a project in the works from Black Panther and Creed director Ryan Coogler. In a conversation with On the Coast With Gloria Macarenko, Carter hinted that Coogler might be involved with the franchise’s future. “I just spoke to a young man… Ryan Coogler… who is going to remount The X-Files with a diverse cast,” Carter said. “So he’s got his work cut out for him because we covered so much territory.” As of 2020, Carter was set to produce an animated spinoff comedy series called The X-Files: Albuquerque for Fox, Bloody Disgusting pointed out, initially breaking the report. The show would follow a team of misfit agents who investigate X-Files cases too bizarre for Mulder and Scully to handle, according to TV Line. The series had a...

Ryan Coogler sent the Rocky franchise off in a completely new direction with his film Creed, then made one of the most highly respected entries in the Marvel Cinematic Universe with Black Panther. Now, while he continues producing Creed sequels and working on further expansions of the Black Panther franchise (he directed the sequel Black Panther: Wakanda Forever), it sounds like Coogler is about to put his stamp on another famous property. In a new interview, The X-Files creator Chris Carter has indicated that the sci-fi series is about to get a Ryan Coogler reboot!
While being interviewed on the show On the Coast, Carter was asked how The X-Files would be different if it were made in our current times. Carter replied, “We’re so steeped in conspiracies now. The X-Files dealt with a central conspiracy, but now the world is so full of conspiracies that I think it would be a different show.

It’s now been five years since “The X-Files” wrapped up its unexpected tenth and eleventh seasons, but where does the franchise go from here? Last we heard back in 2020, the franchise’s next evolution will come courtesy of “The X-Files: Albuquerque,” an animated spinoff comedy series that “The X-Files” creator Chris Carter was attached to produce for Fox.
TV Line had explained in 2020, “The potential series will center an office full of misfit agents who investigate X-Files cases too wacky, ridiculous or downright dopey for Mulder and Scully to bother with. They’re essentially the X-Files’ B-team.”
The project had been given a script commitment, with Rocky Russo and Jeremy Sosenko (“Paradise Pd”) attached to write the pilot episode and executive produce.
Now in a new chat with On the Coast With Gloria Macarenko, Carter teases what sounds like an entirely different upcoming project… from Ryan Coogler?!
