Great acting, great storytelling, just a wee bit slow.
Sleepin_Dragon16 August 2022
Peter Quint plays a dangerous game with Miles and Flora, his aim is dark and devilish.

I found the first half of that episode a little repetitive, perhaps even a little slow, however, the second half really does shift up the gears, it's revealing, it's unsettling, it's wonderfully bleak.

Pacing issues aside, it was a satisfying watch, it tells a very dark, chilling story, so many elements will make you feel uncomfortable.

Some fine acting throughout, Oliver Jackson-Cohen I thought was very good as Quint, but best of all was young Benjamin Evan, I thought the going man was terrific.

I am so impressed by the way the pieces are falling into place, I just wish it was a little quicker, 7/10.

Benjamin Evan Ainsworth new big star.
yusufpiskin9 October 2020
He is 10 years old but he had no difficulty in such a big project. Miles played his character perfectly. Despite having more than one director in the series, he did not break away from his role. This young friend will undertake magical things in the future.

Ghostly explanation
IrishCreem91429 October 2020
Despite what other reviewers are saying, this episode is not confusing if you're paying attention. We finally get an explanation for Rebecca and Peter's fates. The plot is developed in a non-linear fashion. I guess some viewers get left behind when a plot isn't simple and predictable.

Not too bad

Warning: Spoilers
Great characters and good storylines, but with this episode, it feels kinda like a less violent/gory version of the first season of American Horror Story. No one leaves Bly.

Why all the confusion?
heidibokor9 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I read so many reviews about people being confused about what's going on at this point, but I am not sure what they are watching. If you paid attention to the previous episodes, it all comes together rather "splendidly!" At about the 43 minute mark, it actually becomes quite sad when the ghosts want to send the children to their "forever home." It's in a sense killing these children for selfish reasons. And the last second of this episode is awesome. It's one of the best episodes because it explains a lot. Not sure why people are so confused about it all. It makes perfect sense. It's all coming together very well.

Ah, Part Two
Trey_Trebuchet28 September 2022
Seems like THIS is the episode that may make or break the rest of the show for some. My only real complaint was the pacing. I don't think there are any unnecessary scenes, it just felt as long as it is.

Otherwise, really solid stuff. I'm not confused at all about anything and I'm legitimately fascinated and surprisingly heartbroken (yes I'm being serious, no I'm not being a troll, please be nice to me).

The performances that really stuck out to me this episode were Oliver Jackson-Cohen and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth. They're both simply exceptional, and Tahirah Sharif was spectacular too.

I'm done with all of the nonlinear storytelling. It does feel overwhelming at times, but it's well acted enough and just powerful enough for me. I will be finishing this show and I AM actually looking forward to it.

You can only leave question unanswered for so long

Just as I've seen others say, this was the episode where i officially felt burnt out. An excessive amount of screaming and darkness to drive the plot only a very short distance. Im losing patience with shows that string the viewer along with mystery after mystery, then attempt to bring everything together in a finale that virtually never sticks the landing. Heres to hoping the next two episodes can seriously deliver

It's different
bluebirdstreet-0825810 October 2020
I like it, but I have to admit, I haven't got a clue what's going on. Binge watching this while drinking red wine is not recommended. I haven't found it scary so far, although I've had a few frights It's a bit like episodes of Poirot with some scary bits in it. I keep looking for ghosts in the background but I couldn't find any so far

I reckon I will have to watch this a few times before i suss out what is happening.

A tangled mess
neilkempe27 October 2020
Once again a plot so convoluted and mish-mashed you can sense the writers adding way too many ingredients to this particluar broth - it's almost a case of viewer-abuse. You can just hear the workshopping: "let's go this way now" and then someone else "oh we'll add this now" and "yes and then we'll use a knock on the door or an entry into a different room to change not only the scene, but the very souls, personalities, time zones and dimensions the viewer is witnessing." Ho-hum for so long... and about as scary as a sock full of lawn clippings. Honestly, it is a genuine case of stuff the viewer, aren't we such clever little writers. Not!

Savage

Wow, this guy is a complete savage. Great episode in terms of cinematography and storyline progression. However, the people were a bit too useless.

Confused as ever
vwvoyager19 October 2020
Losing hope this will have a satisfying conclusion. Nonsensical and becomes less scary with each episode, and it wasn't scary from the beginning

This is where business picked up and it became clear we were heading toward the finish line. An exciting episode, but I just wonder how they'll stretch it out for two more.

I Don't Like This Game!!!
wandernn1-81-68327421 October 2020
Warning: Spoilers
So...we begin here wiht Dani waking up and it appears that Miles and FLORA have tied and gagged Dani.

Or wait, it is Peter and Rebecca??? But wait! They are dead!!!

Oh so here in this EP, Peter reveals to Rebecca that he is indeed DEAD.

+1 Star for that REVEAL... so we know now for sure that Peter is a ghost.....

But how is it that Peter and Rebecca can still be making out? She's alive...and he isn't. And he can't leave the boundary of BLY. So what is Rebecca going to do? Is this why she kills herself?? To be dead with Peter??

-1 Star Because this is just a weird direction to go......

So Peter he possesses Miles at will. That's how he does his things in the physical world. So Miles, he tied up Dani when possessed by Peter.

I love the performance by Miles. He's really good in this whole series and especially in this EP.

I think I'm starting to finally see where this is all going. They are all dead. That's what I'm thinking. Only Dani is maybe still alive. And she's the one they're all trying to convince to join them. I think Flora and Miles are probably dead also.

At the end of this one Dani tries to escape with Flora....from the Manor, and in the grounds out front the Doll Faced Ghost grabs Dani.

This one ends with a 5/10

S1.E7 - Confusing Mess [6/10]
panagiotis199325 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
(S1. E7) My Live Reaction / Review for The Haunting of Bly Manor Season 1 Episode 7 ''The Two Faces, Part Two''. The previous episode was good and I gave it a rating of 9/10. Let's see if this one is better or worse. Is Peter really back? What about Rebecca, is that her ghost? Is any of this real? It seems like in this episode we will learn more about Rebecca, that's nice. Is Peter dead? He is definitely a ghost because Rebecca cant even touch him. So Rebecca died by drowning? That's sad. At least now she will be with Peter forever, right? So Peter is dead and he experiences a never ending time loop? I really am trying to understand what is going on in this episode, its confusing. Does ghost Peter want to kill the kids? So they can be in that ''forever house'' he is talking about? Did Peter and Rebecca get inside the children? What is going on? Wait, is Hannah a ghost too? Is everyone a ghost? Wow this episode was bad. Overall this episode was mediocre. My rating is 6/10.

One of the worst episodes of television I've ever seen
g000dn11 October 2020
This episode is where the show jumped the shark. I went from being mildly interested in the story to just flat out exhausted with the ridiculous premise within the span of this single episode. I flat out exclaimed "my god" multiple times and the eye rolling was almost non-stop, especially in the second half of the episode.

It's obvious that this is the episode where the writers ran out of steam, or wrote themselves into a corner. I'm not sure which it was, but the quality of this episode stood out as being some of the worst writing I've seen in TV in a very long time.

This series could have gone a multitude of other ways, but this silly nonsense of a love story masquerading as a ghost story really fell flat. What a poor follow up to the incredible first series.

Well...
songod-9500327 October 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Peter Quint showed his true colors several eps ago when he went bananas over the batter tasting moment. Jessel should never have given him the time of day after that. The guy was imbalanced to say the least. As the saying goes "When someone shows you who they are, believe them the first time."

Why then on earth did she take him back? Why then after seeing what he'd become did she believe him enough to end her own life to be with him?

A thief and a liar will always be a thief and a liar. Peter was a true psychopath who only saw his own wants and did anything to get them. Even if it cost two small children their lives.

Is this tale saying we as people are so needy and fragile that when someone "loves us" we accept all things about them?? We accept the lies, the hurt, the danger, the risk... all because we want to be loved??

Pretty pathetic.

Skipping ahead to the next synopsis it looks like we're in for a huge "how Bly came to be"... the faceless woman, etc. I could care less.

Ohm and the echoes of "American Horror Story" murder house and Hill House are extremely obvious.

Sweet Jesus make you t stop!
jimmietee24 March 2021
I think if they fired that terrible main actress they hired as the main character, Pedretti, then there might be a decent story in there. But watching this "actress" acting like the original actor in a minor high school play got sick and she thought "this is my big chance" is so tiring.

Kids are always poor actors but the boy is half decent considering. The girl is so far from perfectly splendid that I can only hope she decides to be an astronaut or something far from acting.
