Each week within this column we strive to pair the latest in theatrical releases to worthwhile titles currently available on Netflix Instant Watch. This week we offer alternatives to The Five-Year Engagement, The Raven and The Pirates! Band of Misfits.
Jason Segel co-stars with Emily Blunt in a comedy he penned with Nicholas Stoller that follows the bumpy journey of one couple from the proposal to the wedding day. Chris Pratt & Alison Brie co-star.
Longing for some R-rated rom-coms:
Then She Found Me (2007) Helen Hunt stars as a woman whose husband (Matthew Broderick) walks out when she decides to adopt. Then she discovers the identity of her biological mother (Bette Midler) and meets the man of her dreams (Colin Firth, major upgrade.) But things get tricky when she discovers she’s pregnant with her husband’s baby.
Frankie and Johnny (1991) Scarface co-stars Al Pacino and Michelle Pfeiffer re-team for this...

Okay, talk about an embarrassment of riches... if you are lucky enough to be located near a Cinebarre location, you're in for a special treat this weekend.
Not only will you get a chance to see the new John Cusack film, The Raven, stuff your face and tie a load on doing while doing it, you'll also get to see Morella, a short based on the Edgar Allan Poe story, for no additional charge. Score!
If you're unfamiliar with Cinebarre, they may very well have the coolest damn theaters in existence. Movies, good food and plenty of grog to go around. A great place to check out a show!
Directed by Jeff Ferrell, Morella is a 10-minute Gothic horror short pulled right from the pages of Poe. Starring Dennis Kleinsmith and Lisa Coronado, the film was produced in 2008 at the Seattle Film Institute and was nominated for Best Short Film at the '08 H.

Tom Sizemore has had quite a year, appearing in no fewer than eighteen films (and a starring role in Hawaii Five-o on television) in 2011, (including the superb White Knight from brilliant young director-to-watch Jesse Baget), and his 2012 is already shaping up to be another gauntlet for the actor. Of the eleven projects he currently has in production, none has us as excited as the announcement of an adaptation of Edgar Allan Poe’s Morella.
Morella will be the directorial debut for Adam Ropp, and is being produced by Ford (Dahmer Vs Gacy) Austin. Sizemore, who will be playing Father Murray, is teaming up with Margaret (Meet Me In St. Louis) O’Brien, screen legend Tony Curtis (in archival footage), Randal (Curse Of Lizzie Borden) Malone, and Eric (Terminal) Wasserman in this contemporary take on the classic macabre tale, first published in 1835. The film is in production with a 2013 release date yet to be announced.

Casting directors behind independent movie "Morella" are facing a last minute scout for a suitable replacement to take over from Tony Curtis following his tragic death last week. The Hollywood icon passed away on Wednesday after suffering a cardiac arrest, just weeks before he was due to begin production on "Morella", based on a short story by Edgar Allan Poe.
But re-casting the role won't be an easy task - according to a movie representative, filmmakers are looking for an actor "on (Curtis') level". However, Curtis' memory will live on in the film - producers plan to pay tribute to the Some Like It Hot actor with the finished product. The rep tells Entertainment Weekly, "We are very saddened by the loss. Obviously, we will dedicate the film to his memory."

If you have Netflix and are a horror fan in need of something to watch this Labor Day weekend, one look at this gargantuan list I compiled of the new terror titles Netflix has added for instant streaming in just the first three days of this month should keep you busy until Labor Day next year. You'll find something for everyone, from older titles to recent releases, famous to obscure, classic to not-so-classic, monsters to maniacs - you name it.
For the record, I considered compiling this list in alphabetical order or by year of the film's release, but then I realized I had already spent well over an hour just sorting through the massive catalogue of titles Netflix has now made available for instant streaming and realized Labor Day would be over by the time I finished arranging this list in any kind of order. Ready? Here you go.

Big Finish is releasing a new Doctor Who audio adventure starring Paul McGann as the Eighth Doctor. It is scheduled to be released August 31.
Here's a synopsis from their website:
A bizarre manifestation in the Control Room forces the Tardis onto the Plutonian shores of the irradiated world Nevermore, whose sole inhabitant is the war criminal Morella Wendigo – a prisoner of this devastated planet. But the Doctor and his new companion aren’t Morella’s only visitors. Senior Prosecutor Uglosi fears the arrival of an assassin, after the blood of his prize prisoner. An assassin with claws…
There’s no escape from Nevermore, whose raven-like robot jailers serve to demonstrate Uglosi’s macabre obsession with the works of the 19th century horror writer Edgar Allan Poe. An obsession that might yet lead to the premature burial of everyone on the planet’s surface – wreathed in the mist they call the Red Death!

You ever have one of those nights you can’t sleep? So you go down to the living room, turn off all the lights, make sure no one is home, and “accidentally” turn on Cinemax? If you’ve done so, then you know about the cavalcade of skin that takes over the late night airwaves, especially during the late 80’s and early 90’s. Many of these films stay with us, occupying a special place in the back of our minds. We know they’re there; we just would never admit seeing them to anyone else.
While doing my weekly foraging at the Goodwill searching the VHS rack looking for rare horror titles, I stumbled upon a memory. I exclaimed aloud, “Holy shit! The Haunting Of Morella! Where have I seen that before?” I glanced over at my fellow horror comrades and saw the look of shame in the eyes of...
